Thanks for all the feedback everyone

Ranger/BH with no medic is now starting to look a little more viable

I am thinking that a nice combo of Tatooine sunburn, ormachek and good old meatlumps will help keep me alive when i really need it too (as well as the occasional doctor buff from a friend who is hoping to get to at least 0 0 3 3 in doctor, with the rest into commando)

Wolf_Scout, at the moment I am using a full set of Mabari armour that has been sliced to the following encumberances:

Chest 49/12/7

Gloves 8/9/6

Boots 13/15/9

Pants 21/27/7

Helmet...can't remember the encumberances

I don't care much about the effectiveness because I am really only after the AR1 rating with defense to kinetic attacks. Does anyone else use Mabari armour with lower encumberances than this? I'm not sure if this is anywhere near as good as Mabari gets...

Partial set of 50% effectivness unsliced composite. Pop the helmet off in camp to regen mind and it works great. I use pants, boots and a helm. All 50% with 15% electricity. Soldiers armor but works like a champ regardless.

If the mob gets in Melee range I fire up my 49% kinetic Chitin , kite , then unequip.

Now for Npc/pvp stuff Tantel Cheast and Helm 24% energy rez, rest is 17% energy rez bone armor, + 52% psg if i get hard.

Hey fellow rangers,

I am Master Ranger and have some good medic skills as well (actually testing Novice BE for mob lair controll with instant kills)...

I am not sure about what you are saying about Ranger/BHs...

Right as it stand now I would deadly suck, if I cant heal my self during fight 2-3 times with good stimpacks and also power up my Non CH pet with stims (ok could use there stimpacks)...

Difficult decision to change...

But I also feel bored by keeping my char the way it is with 0 skillpoints left :-)

I have to say I LOVE to go out ALONE - doing all what I need to keep alive myself.
Will that be still possible with BH ?

I am 0-0-4-0 BH, 1-1-0-4 CH and 0-2-0-2 pistoleer (with modest medic skills)

I was climbing up the Ranger tree (instead of the CH/pistol) but honestly i found it quite useless for my play style. i dont use traps. I camp only to call pets (as I have basic medic skills) and I find the crafting stations in the higher end camps to be useless.... so the only 2 things that attracted me to the ranger class were the idea that maskscent might be extremely useful and that the creature harvest bonus would seperate my harvesting business from every joe schmo scout. But neither of these really panned out.

maskcent is sometimes more dangerous than good (when it fails i always get aggroed) and the creature harvest skill offers a negligable benefit.

In fact when I 'untrained' my way down out of the ranger tree, I noticed absolutely no differences in my game play. Master scout seems to serve me just fine.

Toobad as I really like the "concept" of the profession.

That being said, if they ever throw a few bones to this class... like a more useful /areatrack (maybe with waypoints?), or specific resources that only rangers can harvest... ill be the first to jump back into the profession as a BH/Ranger hybrid.

For armour I wear a dark green coloured Ubese jacket, gloves, boots and helmet. It's the closest to Swamp Trooper armour (green coloured Scout Trooper stuff) I've found so far and I think it looks pretty good. It has around 47% resist to kinetic and the rest is down around 12-16%. I may find a good protection composite helm to use in PvP to help protect against those damned eye shots though.

My ubese is right there with yours 46-48% kinetic with I think 20% resists on the others, cept I have the legs and mine is black. I paid 73K for my full set was curious what ya paid for yours? I like that Compostie helm idea the ubese seems to be ok for now but I think in heavy PvP the Comp will be better.

I paid 10k for the jacket and 8k each for the boots, gloves, and helmet (or something around that anyway). I'm on Kettemoor however and prices will vary from server to server depending on availability, demand, resources, and inflation (how many dupers/exploiters are on the server).

I built a character template on http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/charbuild.html. I'm tooling with the following:

Medic 3/1/4/1 - Bounty Hunter 0/0/4/4 - Ranger 0/4/0/0

Medic - First Aid III for good self healing ability. Pharm IV for high medical usage (stim ds). Diagnostic and Organic Chem I because I had 4 skill points left over.

BH - Pistol IV for eyeshot. LLC4 for the LLC specials.

Ranger - Frontiering IV for the biggest camp, helps for healing.

I think this character would keep me respectable in PvP and keep me happy hunting and exploring.

Thoughts?

Hi, I'm a Bounty Hunter and will offer these observations.

1. First and foremost if you intend to PvP be prepared for a ton of whining. There is a ton of whining now about Bounty Hunters so be prepared.

2. The LLC is a great gun but is slow and inaccurate. If you don't kneel then forget about landing a hit. Also you have to be in melee range to use the specials. That is intended by the way. All damage is done on random pools but since you do so much it evens itself out. It is currently bugged and we have an issue with the accuracy modifiers the devs haven't addressed. There are 2 listings in your skill mods section and we are wondering if they are not stacking.

3. Carbines are currently busted. All BH Carbine specialsoffer status effects and knockdowns on single targets only. As of the last patch these are now bugged and do not work or stick. Knockdowns simply do not work in PvE. If you knock down a target they will literally stay down for about 2 seconds then pop right back up. Dizzies do not stick and the only BH carbine special that does a status effect as well as damage is given at Master Bounty Hunter. A carbine is still good for regular attacks though. On a side note BH carbine specials work just fine in PvP so go figure

4. Pistols are great but there is major complaining about eyeshot so something will probably be done about it. After that people will probably start complaining about torso shot then fast blast. Basically all specials in the Bounty Hunter tree have been complained about in one way or another so just be ready.

Being a Bounty Hunter is great but as a Ranger I would think that being a carbineer would be better suited for you since they focus on mob PvE crowd control. However they are COMPLETELY busted at the moment. As far as combat classes go Carbineers are the new commando's.

Yeah this post is depressing but dabbling in Bounty Hunter will give you considerable power. Be warned though that it's not perfect and there are problems.

Thanks for the input from a BH prospective, I do not think we are looking to be the Uber PvPers but rather rounding ourselves out to be semi useful in PvP during combat. I agree the Carbines are FUBAR right now and that is a shame because I think they would compliment a ranger nicely.

No problem. I usually come here to escape all the whining both against Bounty Hunters and done by Bounty Hunters who want to be uber. Rangers are so level headed and friendly.

I'm a simple guy trying to make my way in the galaxy. I don't want to be the uber PvP master, I don't think Bounty Hunters should be unstoppable in all situations and I don't worship Boba and Jango Fett. I simply want to be a regular SWG PvE player who aspires to Master Bounty Hunter.

Oh and with another toon I'll be a Ranger. Bet on it.
