I like this idea. They shouldn't be able to scan you if they can't see you.

My only complaint, how is camo gonna fool a robot using (presumably) IR scans to find people?

Maybe our camo is good, but I doubt it is IR proof. Or perhaps I am getting to realistic here.

Here wittle probot, Unca Ranger JB has a nice blaster with your name on it... scan me and see what cha get, beeping sack of silicon.

Party pooper.

Its complex camoflauge. Those crafting tools can do amazing things with organic resources, just look at the Field base.

Actually, you might be able to pull this off if you can find somewhere in the Star Wars universe where there is a technology that can disguise/hide body heat.

Not hard, you just need to produce enough heat to convince the scanner you're a non-humanoid life form. You could do this now, though it probably wouldn't be very comfortable.

Hiding your own heat would be a lot harder. Or as easy as jumping into a convenient stream, depending on where you are.

Of course then you get into pattern recognition and fuzzy adaptive scanners and whatnot, but all that tech has counter-tech. Thermal sensors can be spoofed now and they'll probably be spoofed in the future.

I am really curious to see how this affects my daily life...

im not sure if it will be a mere annoyance or a big hassle. Either way, this is the kind of immersion i really want in swg...

This is how I see it at this point. Our cammo would have to specifficly disguise us from a type of thermal scan for us to escape this. Also, I don't think it is our purpose to be hiding from imperial scans while in the wilderness. Yes, logicly if we can hide from animals and such, we may be able to hide from a droid with the propper cammo, but realy is this our role, or is it the role of the smuggler? Smugglers smuggle, and their smuggling skills don't end in the city.

I'm not totally against it, I'm just playing devil's advocate. Plus I just don't want to extend our boundaries too far.

I do however see one possiblity to this scenario, but it is a very "smugglerish" feeling solution so even this is iffy in my mind. the ranger is more attuned to feel of his wilderness surroundings, thus he should be granted some forewarning that a troop is approaching (a scanning troop and probe droids would sound like a herd of elephants to a ranger). So maybe rangers could get a message saying "you sense a scanning party in the area" and you have 30-60 seconds to warn your party members. What you'd do then, I don't know because I don't know how exactly the devs are implimenting wilderness scans. If an acutal physical scanning party arrives, you can prepare for battle. If it's all just done using in game messages, well then everyone can eat their spice or something. And if we get our "stash" ability, then maybe you can dump your contraband in the stash lot real quick to avoid a scan that you know is comming.

"I don't think it is our purpose to be hiding from imperial scans while in the wilderness."

The issue here is:

If we are able to /conceal versus humanoid NPCs to the point that they don't attack us, why would they still be able to scan our inventory for contraband?

If we are able to hide from humanoid NPCs, then it would be strange to have one of them walk up to our position and fine us for carrying sliced weapons.

So... It comes down to:

  • We can hide from humanoid NPCs, and therefore also evade the scans.

  • Or we can't hide from humanoid NPCs.

But do you know yet who or what will be doing the wilderness scanning? Is it up on test center yet? Is it an NPC party or is it a probe droid or an NPC party with a probe droid? I agree if we can conceal from NPC's we can logicly conceal from a roaming party of NPC's, but if a probe droid is present, that changes things in my logic. A probe droid wouldn't be nearly as easily fooled by our cammoflauge that is designed to simply make it hard for us to be seen. If a cammo could be made to conceal our thermal signature and "life signs" it would make sense, but I would think that would be a level above the cammo we currently have. Plus, to the devs, this is an entirely different game mechanic than static aggro NPC's initiating combat on sight. There are a few game mechanics in which certain aspects of the game are treated differently in order to make gameplay more fun or balanced. PvP or factional insurance for example. the way I understand that is with the 24hr exemption in place, if I purchase it and get killed by a creature, I still suffer the decay, but if I get killed by the opposite faction, I don't. Logically when you die, you die and the consequences should be the same no matter how your death comes about, but for purposes of making the game more "playable" there is a distinction between the two.

Again, I just want to avoid us overextending our boundaries. If people want it, I'm not totally against it. I'm just playing the other side, trying to keep people on their toes and thinking of all possible angles.

Screw hiding from the freaking things. I am gonna kill each and every probot I can. I will find and destroy them with the same mindless determination (I do mindless really well) as I have rasps.

I get a TEF, wow. I spend half my time that way anyhow, killing stupid little Impies who think they can camp in my area.

It's not a superstar destroyer, it's a freaking droid, ?? 800 HAM ?? That's one stopping shot. Buh bye bag of bolts, off to the Maker with you. Armor, oh I am worried - NOT.

These are probots. I think a durni could take one on and make it interesting. Unless they really beef em up, then I will really get mad and have to kill it dead dead dead.

Reports are that if you attack the probot, it will spawn about 6-8 ST's to jump on you.

I will look for the link from the TC threads.

I will take my TEF and move along...

Yep, a shuttle comes down and about 8 STs come out and proceed to do things to you.

Its the whole 'be the tree aspect.' Be one with the wilderness. I agree from tracking we should know when a scanning party approaches. And be able to hide from hit. Climb a tree and hide type idea. If that seems to powerful for us to do. Then make the camo type kits that help against probot droids to be a artisan crafted device or better yet a smuggler. Maybe make us part of it not the whole of it.

Or if there is an npc party with a probot then maybe you need a combo. Stealth type smuggler suit and a regular camo kit.

I think there are plenty of possibillities and there needs to be these options because for every technology there is a counter. We should be part of it on the wilderness front. This is our land and we know it better than anyone else.

No you are wrong that is not from a rancor, that pile of *edit* is from Makloc Bull. Thank you Mr. Ranger
