it's also on the Ranger forum. It's called "pistoleers-- guide to hunting unbuffed" or some such thing.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I actually had to check. I've got a suit of Ubese 75-ish, in my droid. Usually find myself working in ordinary clothes, just using some food and drink buffs to keep me this side of incap.

Really enjoying rifleman, concealshot IS your friend. (Just to see how it'd go I lay about 50m from an ST patrol, full twelve man pack and NPC garnish. I think the family thought I'd flipped when I started singing "one little, two llittle, three little stormies...")

But, for critters, yep, low level stuff, whats the point of buffing. Big stuff? Unless it's insanely high level just stay as far away as I can as long as I can and do as much damage as I can.

Those are also the times when your glad to have a droid or pet. You just set up the macro for yourself to have them attack and do /burstrun so you can get away or move back to keep firing while the droid/pet takes the attack.

Because your using the wrong weapon. Part of fighting unbuffed is that you have to learn your weapons. Im guessing your wearing a full suit of comp while holding the hammer. Your stats are already low as it is and then your adding a weapon thats 100/100/100 for HAM specials cost. Which your probaly doing what you normally would do in an attack.

Remember this is a whole new way of fighting for you. At most you want to wear ubese jacket, pants, boots, gloves (pants of course are optional right now, i still wear them). You want to check through your weapons for your lowest ham cost one. For a swords man this will probaly be the 2h Curved Sword. You also want to think about foods that match your profession. As a brawler i would recommend the food pack i have above. This will lower the cost on your specials to a point you can use a few.

If your guild has a weaponsmith think about getting a curved sword made special for this. You'll be capped on speed anyway.

This is a completle change of fighting from what people are used this. This is a challange and it makes the game interesting. So start with 3k HAM creatures and work your way up. You could use your powerhammer since its so strong without specials as well.

Hope this helps

well if you noticed my signature you would find that i am wookiee, no comp for me lol wookiee armor is typically always brutal. The power hammer over 100damage to my health each time i swing it, i can use COB for swordsman and it accually protects me a bit, the hammer cost for health is the real pain in the neck, using the 2handedsword does relieve some of the pain, but the brawler food is now on my list of future buys so a big thanks to ya willl take some getting use to, but it seems fun, and it allows me to remove my horned wookiee armor for a change and breathe fresh air.

i would love to fight unbuffed, but being swordsman, just a few hits with the powerhammer and i've almost killed myself lol

I just hunted on endor for the past week, had a really good shift of herbivore. with a PH, just get into combat , throw a sonic pulse, and let the hammer attack with just the auto attack. Only use specials if u absolutely have to . The only creature i found i had to use specials on were the lantern birds. And only because they run away , but with a really good hammer , they will drop like flies.

well sense you are swordsman, how effective is COB on bigger creatures? im currently at 1/4/4/3 i have the majority of the cob lines but not the master yet, reason why i ask is someone else reminded me of armor cost on hams so i think taking the armor off would be better.....wookiee armor

Sorry i rushed through the response this morning( Turkey day activities were calling). I use 77%ubese jacket, boots, bracers and helmet. CoB does help, but i only use it on really large critters(13-14k ham). The ranger trapping line is your best friend. It will apply states that you simply do not have access to in the swordsmen tree. For food buffs, i have whittled it down to 1 garrmorl, if i get in a tight spot, pop another one. have canape on hand if you are using a scythe. The mind cost on the scythe hits home really fast when fighting unbuffed. Also have some accaragm handy in case you get a little trap happy. I currently do not have a trap droid, just a 107 harvest droid.

Really , the only thing i see being the biggest hindrance right now for you is not being a Master Swordsmen. Once you hit master , believe me , critters will drop like alot faster than you thought possible.

Just stick with swordsmen and you will be pleased with the way the profession handles everything.

Let us know how it goes and good luck , happy hunting and may your Power Hammer never stop swinging.

can you fit 1 shot of garrmorl and 1 shot of accaragm in your stomach? cause if i could i would be set! my mind points are pretty good without brandy so the major need is health and action, if that would work, i would be one happy black wookiee ranger of Dantooine!

I use one 49 filling Accargm and one 49 fill garrmorl with 2 33 filling ahrissa. So yes you can use both. The one problem i ran into is duration. One of the two has a capped stat on duration i think is garrmorl as duration is controlled by flavor and bone and hide have no flavor.

My BE/Chef just made me a 40 minute Accargm, 36 minute Garrmorl set to go with my ahrissa. This leaves me without the health/strength/con bonus for 4 minutes. Which can make things really interesting. Garrmorl is 327 Health/Str/Con, Accargm is 404 (need to check to make sure im right) Action/Quick/Stamina. And the ahrissa is 400 focus.

When fighting unbuffed with ubese take off the bracers and gloves. No need to add them to your HAM costs at this point. Personally i wear a set of Mabari. The set of pants, gloves, boots, jacket, and if i wear it helm cost me 59-80 in strenght/con, quickness/stamina, and if wearing helmet focus willpower. Normally i dont wear the helmet since mostly at that level im not fighting headshot beasties.

Ubese has some really nice protections but the HAM costs can hurt you unbuffed. When i get socialed by a large group i'll switch to my ubese jacket for that added bit of protection. But then i really have limited myself on specials.

Traps wise im a big beliver in the Sonic Pulse and P-Darts. Also the other food im starting to love is exo-wafers. 20% damage reduction, 20 attacks 5 stomach (not drink) filling cost. Even non-BE ones made by a domestic 4 artisan are 14%, 15 attacks and a heck of a lot cheaper. Is almost a no-brainer to add this to your diet.

Hunting unbuffed/unarmored with rifles:

Any other way besides mask scent, take cover, and conceal shooting everything. <---- That doesn't sound like fun considering nothing will even get to you.

Also, are traps really that useful as a rifleman since you can kill a lot of things without them seeing you, and throwing a trap at them will just make them come after you. I'm actually thinking of not going up trap section of ranger because of this (would free up points for CH or Medic).

I hunt on endr without the usual doctor buffs.

As a Ranger / Carbineer, I find I do need a little help , and the drink for Health and Action is just enough.

Those are just to offset my HAM costs as carbineer. As for in combat.. I can actually complete and entire lair without causing aggro if I'm patient. Sometimes I attack the lairs faster to force the spawns, then my adhesive meshed come in handy.

I am a Wookie. For the first year+ I had to hunt without armor. What you are experiencing and LOVING is what I was doing since day one. I also have steered clear of buffs for the most part. I use them now when I need to make money fast but for the most part its pure wookie. It doesnt take skill to stack defs, stand in line for 20 minutes for buffs, buy a crate of all the best food, have a musician buff/dancer buff then go run Janta Missions for money to buy your uber DOT weapon so you can own overts spwaning in starparts. But come hunt with me and I will show you how to solo, volitor, hurtons lairs unbuffed and unarmored. Lets see some of these uber doodz do that. Sure I can dawn Hunting armor, get my master doc wife to buff me, and spam my best specials till the cows come home, but where is the skill in that. Give me warning shot, threaten shot, , TRAPS, medic skills, my BH/Pistoleer temp and I will show you what a hunt is suppose to be.

If you ask me everyone should be raised to around 1250-1500 base stats. Uber armor should give 30-35%. Buffs should only be 20-30% and food 10-15%. All this buffing for 4-5 times what your base ham is, with food that will double some stats coupled with the armor and the weapons is a joke. If the crap wasnt so out of whack we might not even need a combat revamp.
