I love it. I haven't gotten the courage up to do the big creatures unbuffed yet, but I am curious to see if I can do it. much more challenging when you can't just stand toe to toe with the critters and blast away at them

Who in their right mind would stand toe to toe with a large creature and "blast away" at it?
Yeah, it can be done. Now anyhow - later, after the CU, we will see.
You missed the entire point of the fighting unarmored/unbuffed threads. This is not Duke Nuk'em. It is ok to shoot and move. Use terrain. Tactics. Use a pet or droid to help. Use traps.
Solo hunting unbuffed and unarmored is fun, and the entire point is not needing to heal because you don't get hit.

I think he is agreeing with you JB.
Adhesive mesh is your friend, especially if you are fighting anything large on the lower level planets. Ive been able to root whole herds of social animals and pick them off one at a time - you just have to keep an eye out for the ones that start to move again and be ready. Its fun.
And you don't get the huge HAM costs that armor causes.

Mm.. I was driving across tantooine the other day, and I come over this pair trying to down a rondo, and I just got off my bike, and observed them for a while. Their weapons oozed cdef, and they kept running and running and running. I wouldn't say they had a tactic going, but I miss those days sometimes. Threw a phecnacine at the beast and went on my way.

I havent been buffed in a long time. I wear very light armor (full set of Mabari 59 cost to substats for full suit) and use food. I love it and am proud to say im up to 9300 HAM creatures now as a Master Fencer/Ranger. My droid launches a P-dart. I follow up with sonic pulse and flash bomb. Works really well for me.

I was in total agreement with JB keep in mind I my toon on this server is only a couple months old. My other toon is over a year and he was one of the infamous combat stackers, and force sensitve to boot. I was just saying it is much more fun to play it this way, unarmored and to use tactics and of course my newfound ranger abilities.

Its funny but traps felt useless until i started this. Now that im fighting unbuffed and low armored I think I have learned more about the traps. The fact that the Sonic Pulse and Flash Bomb are AoE is a nice thing when your being smacked on by a social group. Stun, if i remember right, lowers their chances of hitting you. This comes in very useful then.
I also fall back on Glow-wire as well since my droid is ranged and im melee dropping their defenses can be very helpful

Because your using the wrong weapon. Part of fighting unbuffed is that you have to learn your weapons. Im guessing your wearing a full suit of comp while holding the hammer. Your stats are already low as it is and then your adding a weapon thats 100/100/100 for HAM specials cost. Which your probaly doing what you normally would do in an attack.
Remember this is a whole new way of fighting for you. At most you want to wear ubese jacket, pants, boots, gloves (pants of course are optional right now, i still wear them). You want to check through your weapons for your lowest ham cost one. For a swords man this will probaly be the 2h Curved Sword. You also want to think about foods that match your profession. As a brawler i would recommend the food pack i have above. This will lower the cost on your specials to a point you can use a few.
If your guild has a weaponsmith think about getting a curved sword made special for this. You'll be capped on speed anyway.
This is a completle change of fighting from what people are used this. This is a challange and it makes the game interesting. So start with 3k HAM creatures and work your way up. You could use your powerhammer since its so strong without specials as well.
Hope this helps

check out the post by JBMat, that tells pisotleers how to fight unbuffed.
As to what you can fight-- well that's up to you. If you're low level you'll want to stay off of the lvl 40 and up critters, but with food and drink, it's hard to say what you can fight.
but hey, try it out-- go to a place where high level creatures don't DB-- Talus, maybe...and fight creatues and see where you end up. If they incap you, try lower level stuff. It's all a bit of give and take. Plus, the cloning center operator is the unbuffed Rangers' best friend when they're just getting started.
