Weird grey,
I fight rancors, which are some of the highest creature level creatures in the game (enraged rancors are level 80, mountain squill are level 34-40). The creature level, as far as I know, is a direct representation of how well the trap will work. I rarely, if ever miss on rancors when I am a master ranger. Right now, I'm just a 0/4/4/0 ranger and don't miss much against bull rancors (level 65) or enraged bull rancors (89). I'm just using glow wires, and bone spurs to make them a little weaker.
Dunno why you can't hit squills much, *shrug*

I don't know why either, Darkfas.
But when I think of it, maybe it is creature level. I can wonder around dath fairly unmolested with my mask scent (as long as I avoid nightsisters). But sevorts and kreetles on Tat constantly break through it. I saw a thread somewhere saying that because I am a master ranger, the algorithim (sp?) causes it to loop back to a high chance of getting penetrated by low level creatures. Maybe that is true with trapping...
Then again, my old D&D buddies have a running joke about how unlucky I am. If the worst possible thing I could roll was a 20...I would manage to roll the 20. So maybe it is just me

Why does that make me think of Phenix?

"high chance of getting penetrated by low level creatures."
Folks, this is why one shouldn't post to these boards while at work...(you know besides the "not appropriate use of office computers" thing)
Sorry for my poor choice of phrasing
(wish I had meant to do that)

The worst thing about reading the forums at work is that when your boss hears you hysterically laughing she KNOWS you are not technical writing a manual.

We need a Critical (Animals) mod - then put +40 at Trapping IV and +60 at Master. The mod * .05 would be the percentage., so a master would have a 5% chance of a crit.

oh my god...i hadn't been on the forums for a few day...calc...you obviously don't know much about Bothans...
i've never known a bothan to be thinking about creature penetration whilst they were trapping...but even if they did, there is no way a Bothan would be considered "low-level" in that department.
and yes, I realize that this message will most likely be deleted come sunrise.

Similar reaction at my end, although for me it was waking my family up at 5:30am laughing my @$$ off.
Ah until the thread got serious I was almost crying tears of laughter at the suggestions here. Anyway, for a serious answer I would suggest Landorien has a go at mixing Commando and Ranger together (haven't you noticed that C12 grenades look just like wire mesh traps?).
