Thread: Rangers in the true Star Wars mythos
I agree. I've always been a big fan of Rangers(trackers, hunters, outdoorsman, ect.) and other wilderness professions like CH and BE. Mostly because I am a hunter and an outdoorsman myself and its what I enjoy doing. When I first read all this garbage my heart dropped, but after thinking about it andreading a bit I have to admit that this vision of Ranger does fit into the Star Wars Universe better then the current. I will wait until the revamp and give it a shot, but I am not very big on PvP and this new style sounds very PvP geared. I've always said if I gave up Ranger I'd quit the game because its all I've ever wanted to do. I haven't decided what I'll do yet but this may be goodbye to a great community and a game that has pretty much been my life for 2 years.

i totally understand what you are saying. and i felt the same way. its not what i wanted, but i think its a great benefit to the game as a whole. its just not what i think of when i think of "ranger"

Thanks. Any recommendations on a few books to read about a few of these? Any books on the Blizzard Commandos
The Trianii Rangers appear in the Brian Daley book Stars End, the first of his Han Solo trilogy. I recongize a few of the others from the Star Wars pen and paper RPG source books (both WEG version and the current one). Other than that, Ican't help you.

That was a good read. man, you must have spent some decent amount of hours researching all that.

I was about to link to our discussion on Rodian biology, then I saw the parathetical statement.
I am sure to some, none of that matters because to them their Ranger vision is from Lord of the Rings and Western movies.
anyway, commentary aside, good job putting that all in one place. Thanks

Im sorry not many 'Rangers' read this. It was a great read and insight into the Star Wars vision of Ranger.

True, but, I have never really understood why you would want to play a fantasy character in a Star Wars game, would it not be better to play a fantasy character in a fantasy game and a star wars character in a star wars game.
But then lots of people playing this dont seem to understand the game. The amount of times ive been asked what kind of ship im flying beggars belief, especially considering they are A, X and Ywings that I fly!

It's nothing to do with playing a fantasy character or a sci-fi character. Many Ranger envisioned themselves as explorers, going out into the wild hunting and taming wild beasts. A Pioneer is just as much sci-fi as a paramilitary (which to my mind is more RL thena sci-fi).
I've been here since beta and this is the vision Ranger has always been designed around. I can't understand why so many people chose to grind the profession and then claim it wasn't actually the professoin they were looking for, so instead of switching to smuggler/commando they whinged until they killed the Ranger for those who went out and played it as intended.

The problem with this post is that out of all listed only 2 are actually called Rangers. Associating all special operations with the title "ranger" is a bit...off.
