Thread: Game Play and being polite
This is more than just an age/maturity problem. It's just an internet problem. With no one knowing who you really are, it's easier to not care about your reputation.
I've found that Scouts and Rangers are generally more polite. I think this is in part due to the fact that when we actually take the time to be social, we want to have a good time.
I do very much hope that the first Jedi is a former Scout/Ranger.
I've had the same horror stories as you all had. The worst was the 11 year old who we didn't allow into the TMB (we have strict age/maturity requirements) who then brought 4 armies worth of Rebels (even though he was an Imp) to bust up my wedding. Luckily, as he was 11, he was fifteen minutes late.
Even with Mineras leaving, I hope that the Ranger and Scout boards can remain an eye in the storm of flaming, trolling, griefing and whining that makes up so many of the other forums on these boards.
I'm sure it can - we've got the best folks around here!

I'll agree, there are plenty of rude players in the game, just as there are rude players in every game. I'll also have to agree that most of the Rangers i've come across are usually the most decent players on any server, IMHO. I'm a Novice Ranger, and I try and treat folks decently. It's not hard, really. I never ask for a tip to train, and i'll usually just go to the npc trainer for my Ranger training, so as not to bother anyone else out getting their xp groove on. I am factioned, and I still treat everyone decent. To repeat, it's not hard, really.
I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, i'm just saying that it's not hard to treat folks decently. I've been yelled at, accused of various things....etc.... It rolls off my back. I don't know, maybe Rangers are just a different cut of player. Beats me.
I concur that the Ranger community is perhaps unmatched in its good natured standing, due largely to the fact that we ply our profession in good faith, as opposed to immediate in-game rewards.
3l33t Players tend to flock to the more obvious combat classes, and these players seem to have a disproportionate population of "rude" members.
I for one am proud of the Ranger community; and while I feel no sense of competition between us, I also derive a measure of satisfaction that we are a minority.
I suppose my point here is that while I celebrate our upcoming enhancements, I also harbor trepidation over what types of new members this might elicit. Only time will tell, but I'd be interested in hearing all your thoughts on the matter.

There is a /badname (name) command you can use to report those that violate the rules.
Is that the exact spelling of the command? I tried it and got the usual "No such command, mood, chat type"

Hmm, well thats wierd, it mentions that command under the CSR ticket thing, in the automated responses you get. Honestly, I've never used it myself, but maybe it isn't working.
Guys,
I've never heard of the /badname command, but the one that lets you report players for griefing and abuse is /report <player's name here>.

This brings an interesting question to the board: do you suppose that given Rangers will soon become a more viable class that we'll see this "good-natured" trend begin to shift?

I kinda see this happening, but in the end overall I think after the patch and the shinyness wears off, the Rangers that were here from the start will be the ones to stay.
Also I think that we are a more *mature* type group of players who I think in whole are more layed back easy going and adjusted to this profession. Alot have skilled up quickly but myself have not been too concerend about leveling to master status. I enjoy the time that I play, and find that being out of the mainstream of players is relaxing and enjoyable.
I found that this board and the people of this profession are the most mature and professional that I have ever had the privalage of coming across and being a part of. I give *kudos* to all of you and find the level of maturity, intelligenece, and overall concernsto be the best.
And I hope that throught the progression of this game that other professions find that the Rangers will be the ones that they look for when the need help or services.
