Has this happened to you -

Sitting in the cantina, medcenter or a camp - and some person comes in and demands to be healed, or for someone to start dancing, or the like? Not asks, no saying excuse me..could you help me, I am talking full out DEMANDS services. Torques me off no end.

Fact is, sitting in my field base, crafting meds, traps, stuff... dude comes in and demands I heal his sorry butt. Anyone wanna guesswhat didn't happen? He left, via the cloner, after silly him challenged me to a duel. I will admit I got smart on him..."does it say Medic on my head?"... but he had it coming.

I am posting this here for a variety of reasons -

1. Scouts/Rangers as a whole seem to be polite and "ask" rather than demand.

2. Ihave never seen a Scout/Ranger refuse to help another S/R even across Imp/Rebel lines. I have trained and been trained by "the other side" and done so willingly. Its a S/R thing I guess.

3. I have been told by many dancers/musicians/chefs/medics, that as a profession, we tend to tip well and willingly, often tipping before the services are performed even.

and finally - I can't even count the times I have seen people in trouble in the wild, and I help with them by tossing a few traps (does not hurt their xp) or popping the 3d grrcat that just started to munch on their leg. And I have seen other Scouts/rangers do the same.

What I am saying is, I am sorta peeved at the tone of some players, and I for one will not play nice with the rude.

What say y'all and thank you for letting me vent

You must be thinking like a well-mannered adult!

Blame the parents. I find the snotty little players are usually teenagers whom obviously have parents that didn't teach them manners. My experience in MMO's go back 4 years, and there's one truth of which I'm convinced: you do things in game as you do in real life. (For instance I tend to buy tons of droids I don't need, and you should see my clothing collection...) If you do get into a duel and beat them down, do them a favor and let the incap timer run, then shoot them again when they pop up. In the meantime while they lie there suffering the wait of the inevitable and utterly final 3rd incap, earning them a visit to the cloning center, spam them with "Please, Thank You, got it?"

I don't think your theory of niceness is restricted to Rangers. I find Fencers, Swordsmen, Polearm, Chefs and the other more rare professions (difficult to level) are very receptive to each other, because there are so FEW of those classes and training gets really expensive. When I get trained, I always offer to come to the Ranger or Fencer that has graciously offered to train me (sometimes that means a shuttle or even starship followed by a good run out to a ranger's camp). I often tip when I can afford it, but never expect the same in return. I'll heal people in my camp now and then, and used to dance for them when I was an entertainer, (but frankly I hate crafting Stim B's).

I'd have to say 99% of the people that have dropped by my camps (even as a scout) are thankful for a chair, happy to chat a bit, and appreciative of anything extra I feel like doing. But I know the type of snotty-nosed, ill-mannered player to which you are refering and it's a shame - but a fact of life

I have found some people pretty rude. But I just ignore them, for the most part.

I do tip for healing and usually up front (well, after the first heal so I know who is doing it, or after I start listening or wacthing in the cantina).

I have noticed that since I put the master scout up, I get a lot more requests for training (I struggled to get prentice XP for master scout, but already haveenough for master ranger at 1.2.2.1 )

I try to help people out, and willalways help incap (unless I'll get TEF, sorry I'm not THAT nice)

I am pretty much a loner, and really only go into town when I die, want a mission, or need Battle Fatigue healed. But I still try to help people when I see them in need.

Dunno if that is Ranger or just me (I was a 51 Healer in DAoC so a lot of the helping, and the notice of rude demands for serivce are something I have seen a lot of...hehe).

I'm not above age stereotyping.

I'm pretty young (20. I'll be pretty when I'm older too, heh) and many of my friends, even the older ones , can be quite rude and obnoxious in these kind of online games.

Thats not to say that younger players cannot be mature in these games. Just that most tend to have no moral compunction against acting out since it is "just a game".

I will agree though, that most Rangers and Scouts I meet are generally nice and laidbackpeople. Something about the quite wilderness type lends it's self well to calmer, more consciencious heads.

I too have noticed that fellow rangers tend to be much nicer folks on the average. This is evident in-game, and even on these boards. I am shooting for master rifleman to go along with master ranger, so I spend a lot of time on both professions' boards. Let me tell you, reading this board can be very refreshing after seeing so much trolling, whining, and flaming on the rifle board. Even when folks here disagree, they tend to do so in a respectful and constructive way.

I appreciate the kindness of my fellow rangers, thanks to you all. Makes me proud to wear the "Master Ranger" title.

Here's some good examples, Chilling in keren medical center because I'm eating and have 3-7 of each wound, as we all know this will eventually get healed with no medics.
A novice scout comes in ask me to heal him, "no can do", then asks for trapping 1, sure i'll train ya. group with him then train.
No thank you, No tip just leaves. Nothing.

Aye I'm sorry but this pisses me off to the end of time. I've trained countless people on Naboo, I don't demand anything, just a Thanks , tip of food, old guns anything they don't want.

I do request a 1-2k tip for any rangerskill above 2nd line. There wasn't any ranger's to train me so I had to foot the bill. If they can't afford it then They get training. Most have no problem with the tip

I have a tendency to tip Faction members more often then Non faction members but Its pretty **edit** even between the tips.

The Worse part of all of the rudeness, is the people that attempt to battle something that no way could they take down. Giant peko peko's, Plains Hunter, Kaadu's, Veermoks, Nargs, swamp tusky's. I've walked from Kaadraa to Keren and lord knows how many times 1/2 ham 3/4 ham creatures are wounded. Most of the time I would just circle around for 200m , if no pc's are in range finish it off and move on. Its when in the middle of a rooted boole bol that someone Screams at you to stop. Calling you all sorts of names even though you have waited 10 minutes and no one was around.
One day I even waited 30 min around a Giant veermok waiting for my pet tuskcat to regen. only to get the same yells and screams at me.

Bad section of town i take it

That wasn't a scout Glaza that was a one-day, future BH

Oh, and dont kill Giant Veermonks, they're fun to look at (dont ask, apparently I have some weird sense of humor and all the bi-ped creatures in the game crack me up everytime I see them. I only wish I had more storage slots so I could have one of each to play with )

Yep, I too have noticed this trend. And regarding the age stereotyping, no its not always true, there are some really mature younger players and some really immature older players, but on the whole the statistics do show that the more obnoxious players tend to come from the 22/23 and younger crowds.

I do agree though that there are some definite obnoxious players out there. I've seen them all from the ones demanding money/services to the griefers to the players with mouths that in my day would have earned me on helluva spanking At the same time, there are some really good players too attitude wise. Unfortunately, the bad ones are easier to find because they tend to be so in your face about it.

My partner and I went to Bestine, for example, the other day. Bestine used to be what I'd call "home" but I had been away from it for awhile. Having beta tested and all that junk, I had pretty much lived out of Bestine most of my SWG life. I even met my partner there during beta. Well, we go back there the other day and I think with the change in its design last patch, came a change in the attitude there. I walked into what had once been the most popular and excellent Cantina in the game, and saw one poor female entertainer getting harassed, about 4 Imp PvP players saying things I had never thought I'd hear in this game, and fights breaking out between immature players all over the place. I sat there thinking, maybe if this was Mos Eisley I might understand, but man talk about your 180 flip.

For myself, I always tip well, respect players and their actions, and try to be helpful when I can. I know Karynda(my partner) and I ran across a true newbie the other day who wanted to become a rifleman and had *just* started. Karynda gave the guy some tips on controls, interface, and helped him run a couple of missions by healing/protecting him if he got overwhelmed. I offered him some experience advice and assembled him a CDEF Rifle for free so he could get started on his way. I actually even spent 30 minutes trying to find him a DLT20 instead of making him a CDEF Rifle. Thats an example of the sort of stuff I usually do on a regular basis...and I wish all the other players out there had similar attitudes.

I have to agree with the level of kindness that I find in other Rangers. Being one of the only Novice Rangers on Rori, I have now started to run with incoming new scouts, marksman. Usually I answer questions, train (when I can) and let them learn the ropes a bit. I usually find that they appreciate the favors more. And I also let them harvest all kills (Sorta like safari hunting). That way hopefully they remember who I am, but also that Rangers(even us novice ones) will go out of our way to help anyway that we can.

And as most of you I tip as much and as often that I can. Being in Beta and reading how medics were not being compensated for their services made me realize that these are the people that needed to be treated with respect and dignity, because I don't have any medic skills (points won't let me do this, plus don't want to start and the have to give up) so if I do need healing these people are the ones that I go to.

I haven't really had any bad run ins with rude players, but as a Ranger I am not around alot of people most of the time.

I will have to agree with you there Fred. Especially during the afternoon hours. Now after about 4 pm this "behavior" will start showing up again but before that...mostly smooth sailing. Gotta love it when kids go back to school.

I too have noticed the rampant rudeness... it is very bad on the Valcyn server (don't even get me started with the masses of names that violate the naming rules...)

I stay away from cities whenever possible. Whenever I am getting cloned or getting missions, I try to keep on the outskirts of the city. I just generally don't like most people that play these days.

I can't count the times that people have greeted me by my name and that's it. Of course, that's before they start begging for hide or bone or such. The people no longer get a response from me.

The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I can run out to the middle of nowhere and not see a soul for miles. I have also been very thankful to those who are up-and-comers in the profession that are also kind and generous (yes, as a trend, scouts and rangers do seem to be the most polite of the lot.) There are exceptions though... we just have to make sure that the few foul-mouthed people in our ranks don't give us a bad name.
