Thread: Ranger in PvP
Wow! This pops up so much.
I'll say what I said in another thread, Please let traps work against pets. It still fits into the Ranger vision, it helps balance out the CH, and it gives us a valuable skill to bring to a PvP group.
Solus,
It is my understanding that this will happen as well (traps on pets).

What I would like to see for Ranger and PvP (also for PvE)
- Traps affecting CH pets: We will be getting this. Thus we are now the Counter-CH. The value here depends on how much CH pets are used in PvP.
- Optional bases that do not disband on combat: For non-Battlefield battles it would be realy nice to have a base available for PvP. Mostly as a rally point, but also as a Mobile Field Hospital.
- More traps that affect Humaniods: The Trip-wire is a good start. A few more would be nice (ie Tear Gas that is a AE Stun and/or Dizzy attack)
I don't think we need to be "off the Radar" with Conceal. It has limited use in an all out battle. For the Rifleman/Sniper, It would be great, but many are not rifleman.

it seems like the enhanced crawl speed could be an advantage in that you could keep your defense andattack bonuses for being prone, whilst moving all over the place while your opponent is pretty much stationary. For instance, you can put yourself in ideal range for your weapon type (as long as it's different from your opponents) and gain an advantage that way.
just a theory... haven't actually done this. anybody found this to be a help in pvp?
Sorry for the rainbow effect - highlighting points ![]()
We can't just be a PvE class....that's a complete waste.
There should be a choice with Ranger. It needs and warrants flexabiliy. If you want to PvE fine. use conceal, mask and traps on creatures. If you want toPvP you should be able to still use conceal, mask and traps on players and creatures. What is wrong with that? why not? Someone please think outside the PvE box!!!People (players) do fall into traps and have traps thrown at them.Debuffs should work on Players. Aren't there slaves in Star Wars...I digress....
We can still be the "Gods of PvE" but please give us a PvP niche for all Rangers to have the "Choice" to participate in PvP.
Someif not most chosespecialise in Ranger because we don't want to train in a zillion different weapons - traps and conceal could be just as useful, but in a different way. It would make the Ranger unique. How many bang bang shoot your dead classes are out there. BORING.
Exploration will become a limited skill when vehicles are introduced, and Master Scout is the foundation of many other professions with PvP ability. Thus it seems a logical progression to have "some" PvP capability. We are Rangers (the title alone suggest we have something to offer) We are the Master of Master Scouts.
Sorry for the rant and rave - I think I have calmed down now.
My therapist suggested I write down my feelings - lol
I agree that Rangers should definitely be the BEST PVE class. I don't see anything wrong with Rangers also having a PVP SUPPORT ROLE. The fact is, the conceal against other players ability wouldn't be ONLY useful for Riflemen types. ANY Ranger could use it to benefit their group. Heck, the Ranger wouldn't even have to fire a single shot or throw a single punch to make his presence felt on the battlefield. His benefit to the other players would speak for itself. The opposing group would be like "crap they've got a RANGER over there helping them!!! we're toast!!" I see nothing wrong with the conceal PVP thing, I think it would add a whole new usefulness to our profession, and a new spice to PVP in general that it is currently lacking. Of course, the ability would have to be balanced properly, and not overpowered, but I think this could definitely be done.
I think some element of stealth/surprise is NEEDED in PVP to make it more realistic and interesting. Given that such an ability would be helpful to the gameplay, and could be balanced, isn't it better to give that to asupport class, instead of one of the alreadyoverused combat classes? I mean really, do we need to give everyone and their mom ONE MORE reason to go Bounty Hunter, Creature Handler, orPistoleer? I think giving such an ability to ANY of these classes would be severely overbalancing. Giving it to a vastly underused support class does two major things: it will draw some more people away from the overused combat professions, and it will create a more balanced environment (combat classes more dependent on support classes). I think the Ranger would be the best choice to hold such an ability, both from a roleplaying standpoint, and a balance/practicality standpoint.
"We can't just be a PvE class....that's a complete waste."
Why?
You don't see the artisans, architects, chefs, weaponsmiths and others complaining that they don't have any PvPing skills.
I agree with Aramus - we should have a support role. We've got enough skill points left to master a combat profession as well, so we should do that too. I agree that a bit of help is needed, but we're designed to be PvE and that's what we're good at.

Guys,
From my discussions with the Devs, the intention was that Scouts/Rangers were to be the ultimate PvE players.I believe that this intention has been fulfilled. We are not, and never will be, the Gods of PvP. If you are looking for that, you'll need to go BH, a combat profession, or CH.
As for traps working on NPCs - the new trip-wire Ranger trap will work on NPCs. The others will not...they are designed for critters.
As for /conceal working on NPCs and other players, I'm sure that this is something that we can continue to lobby for.

I don't want to be a PvP god but.... think Vietnam ![]()
... and there needs to be SOMETHING to use against AT-STs besides a rocket launcher, For cripes sake IT'S IN THE MOVIES!!!
Correct me if I am wrong here, but there seem to be a ton of very usefull skills / features in store for the ranger.... Camo kits working on NPC's and creatures (Dont know if it will work on players... although it should), conceal skill and a plethora of other stuff. Also, what better person to have PVP than a Ranger to fight off the pets of a creature handler? Our traps will work on CH pets right?
Lastly... I am not just a tick away from master ranger... I have been working on my pistoleer skills and if my calculations are correct you can master both or just about master both and a Master pistoleer / Master Ranger is a pretty powerfull combo... especially where creatures are concerned.

You can master both and have 18 pts left over ![]()
Add my voice to the mass of rangers who are against uber PvP skills. While some of the benefits of conceal may make sense in PvP as long as balance is taken into account, and the full range of skills should work against animal pets, I'drather be able to/scanarea for both PCs and NPCs than to gain anyother PvP skills simply because itfits inwith the ranger character concept and with balance.
