Thread: Elite-Elite for Ranger?
Yeah, I guess rancher would be a bit too much like BE. Still, I have to ask all of the people who want PvP taken into consideration, why didn't you just choose BH or commando? Seems like the easier way to go, compared to hoping the devs make big changes to an entire class. I went into ranger just for the wilderness perks, myself.
Thx for all of the thoughts folks.
I see no reason why Rancher would in anyway infringe on BE. Ranchers would not be creating creatures to pets with varying combat abilites.
Ranchers would raise livestock for Mounts and for their Hide, Bones and Meat. I am not a BE and am not that knowledgeable on what they do but I don't think they do this.
Ranchers could find a certain critter with meat with high quality and high potential energy and raise those, if they were domesticable, for medic meat, to sell on the open market.
I think it would be a shame to turn Ranger into combat class. There are already enough choices for that: Commando, Squad Leader, Bounty Hunter, Rifleman, Pistolleer, Carbineer, TK, Pikeman, Fencer etc.
The Rangers focus as a class has not been on PvP and GCW why change it now.
But there are things that could be added to the Ranger class that would add greatly to PvP and GCW without changing our focus as Hunters, Trappers, Explorers and Surviavalist.
Things that have been posted before by myself and others, like leading a group unseen through the wild, recon, sniper by hit and run etc.
Ouch.

The fact that they've already scrapped 1 of only 2 new professions may have, unfortunately, told me all that I needed to know...
Not saying that I would want to be a rancher because I wouldn't but a bio engineer would be a good partner. They could help inprove your livestock maybe. More meat, more hide, better quality. Maybe have them decay over time from breeding and the bioengineer has to come back and "Fix" a few to improve the gene pool. This would probably require a complicated breeding engine and would have probably be much more complicated than this game could handle at the moment. Or maybe make a line of BE as a prereq to it.
The last thing this game needs is something else to spend skill points on. The last thing the Ranger class needs is an extention, given that the base Ranger class still needs a metric ton of work.
Antarian Ranger:
I like the idea (I tend to think of combat specialists like the US Army Rangers without the silver wings on their chest). There are a few people who want to be able to call in a planetary strike upon a target or have artillery support. The Antarian Rangers definately seem to be more combat oriented than as expert hunters in any environment. The biggest problem that I see, is that if you have a commando in the group, you already have heavy artillery and the last thing that I want is to make another class useless or obsolete.
Infiltrator:
It also seems that there are a lot of people who like the stealthy, cloak and dagger stuff. A super spy is able to blend in the wilderness and in urban areas. They are able to sneak upon humans and animals and use the element of surprise to incap or kill the target this would be very cool for faction play. I dont want to be invisible, but maybe prevent the characters little dot on the radar until combat starts. If the target actually spots the spy, then all bets are off.
Friend of the Furry critters (for the lack of a better term)
While some rangers want to sneak or destroy what lies in their path, other rangers (like the US park service) want to preserve, protect and study the entire biosphere.
Native American Guide
This is the consumate hunter, able to count coups, collect trophy heads, craft jewelry and have uber-resource harvesting up to all three components at a reduced rate (nothing is left to waste). This guide would be able to do all the things rangers can do only better. They have a slight combat bonus (+to hit creature) and maybe this is where the high tech compound bow would fit.
I envision something along the lines of my former RL job. LRRP/LRSD.
1. Able to go far into Enemy territory, and report on activity.
2.Conceal from everything with ungodly ability, I have actually been stepped on in RL and not been noticed (my hand).
3. Ability to attack once from concealed position with (damage/ to hit modifiers), then Burst run out of area.
