OF COURSE!

But, mainly because I'm bored...

I enjoy being a Master Ranger, but why NOT try to unlock an FS slot? (My skill points are maxed-out, btw.)

If it boils down to me mastering 3 professions that are different from what I have now, so what? I personally wouldn't mind trying several of the other professions, but my curiousity isn't enough to start dropping Ranger skills. Now, the FS slot gives me a reason to try out some professions I'd probably NEVER bother trying, which is probably the Dev's intent-- force you to experience more of the game (like it or not! )

I've sitten in camps forever; how could hairdressing grinding be that much worse? (I really, really hope i don't get Image Designer. But i'd still hammer through it if necessary.)

Once I've unlocked my FS slot--i'll be back climbing the Ranger tree again. By that time, there should be more new skills and abilities for me to appreciate. I'll have made everyone in my guild extra-pretty, maybe have provided them with a tag-along dancer for hunts, and in the end, I'll be back to the class I enjoy the most. And, I'll have my FS character as well. I'm sure I'd go for Jedi, but maybe I'd maketheFS charactersome other class that compliments my Ranger skills...who knows?

I've mastered Ranger before, I can do it again. And I have a better idea of how to do it now.

I am hoping, however, that TKA is the profession that is diametrically opposed to Ranger. That'll make my trip easier.

I'm willing to bet that there are many ways to the Force and the the Holocron is but one. There is more wisdom here than you suspect. Have faith, and may the Force be with you.

G'day, mates!

Actually, after re-reading my first post, I'm toying with an idea......not completely original, and it would depend on how the game and jedi characters develop....

I'm actually thinking of starting a new character, more than likely on the same server, but maybe not. A BH specifically designed to hunt jedi. I'm sure some master BH already has that idea in mind, but the more I think about wasting some poor sap who is creaming his pants while playing his new super-duper-FS-extreme-jedimatic charatcer, the more I like the idea.

I think it's safe to say that becoming a jedi, with the holocrons, if the rumor's true, will be something you don't already have a master in. For me, I'm a master ranger and aspiring TKM (3/3/4/3). If I had to drop either, I wouldn't. Pure and simple, there aren't a lot of TKs OR Rangers and I refuse to break my mold of being something different, based on the fact that "to become a jedi, I have to unlearn everything". Sorry, I'd go find the best RPer in Moenia and give it to them for 1cr so they could never again ever say "We RPers don't have a chance to ever get a FS".

And yes, I'm quite serious about that, hehe...

im with vic on this.

If i have to drop ranger to become jedi so be it, if and when i attain a FS Slot i will pick it up again.

Knowing what i know in scout/ranger i dont think ti will be too hard to pick it up again.

I want to be jedi, make no mistake, but i will, if i achieve FS Slot, make my toon a master rifleman/ranger again.

Not sure what the disussions is about really

What the devs have done by this is making the powergamers the only one that will ever become Jedis, while the roleplayers won't. I'm not an hardcore roleplayer, but since beta I've played a rifleman/ranger aka Imperial tracker andreally like my character. I wouldn't mind spending the time it would take to master 4-8 other professions.. but I would like to be able to do it with my chosen character and chosen professions. I won't mind finding a holocron and see what it tells me.. but if it's not a profession I'm really interested in trying (which are pretty few) I'm not going to hunt for a jedi slot anyway.

This is just a lame way by the devs to get people to play longer. I thought the devs had acctually found a good way to make jedis.. like lots of mystic quests that fit your profession... but hey.. this is SoE.. why did I think I could expect that? Whatever "none camping/powergaming SoE told us wasn't needed.. that's exactly what's needed to get badges or get an FSCS.

Rofl.
So let me get this straight. I chose scouting from the beginning, and put many, many, many hours getting this close to master ranger, and one day i find a majic eight ball that tells me I have to master some other profession. Think not. That has to be one of the craziest things I have ever heard. I'd sooner buy another computer, another version of swg, create another character on the same server, give him the eight ball and let him know where to start out. And that ain't going to happen. So I guess, my answer is no. If it tells me anything other than master ranger, I'll pass it along to whoever wants it, because it was obviously not meant for me to be jedi. And when everyone has 2 characters, I'll still be doing the same things that I have enjoyed from day, and there will be one less jedi on bloodfin.
Still, it would be one way to thin down the heavy population of commandos, creature handlers, and bounty hunters running around, and have a more even distribution of other less used professions, like say chef for example, or ranger. Think about it, how many master chefs has anyone seen running around? Granted, I haven't been everywhere and seen everything, but I have yet to meet or even hear of a master chef.
Off topic, I know, but couldn't help going there. This is my chosen master profession, and if it ain't in the cards, oh well. Bad enough if I do open the slot I'll have to play this character less to grind away many, many, many more hours to reach master jedi, or whatever. Twice is going to be bad enough, three times, or four if I wanted to get this character back to this close to master ranger after mastering my destined class, forget about it.
Yeah, power gamers will definitely have the upperhand, but then again, most of the power gamers I know talk constantly about how they are soooo bored, or how nothing in this game is a challenge for them with their graul mauler. And it will be bad for the people sitting in their houses crafting for other players, or standing in the cantinas or med centers healing battle fatigue and wounds for people who have sogone combat heavy that they cant even so much as hit themselves with a stim a(I do know several people like that).
My advice, do what Im going to do, continue doing what you enjoy, and if the majic eight ball gives you some bad news, just pass it along to someone who finds this game stale and boring.
Happy hunting,
Karandis

Ps No offense was intended toward any professions that I mentioned here. Everyone has worked very hard to get where they are and they should be congratulated for their efforts. But, if a master bounty hunter tells me he has to drop everything and start over and become a master chef, and he is willing to do, I may never stop laughing.

I intend to do it. But then, I always did! I am not looking for Holocrons though, I just want to (eventually), master all the professions. In deciding to become a Ranger I "dabbled" in every beginning profession, going all the way up at least one line of each (unarmed, music, ALL of them in marksman, and ALMOST all of them in medic and artisan). If I had concentrated I am sure I could have Mastered and given up every beginning profession by now, and I am a VERY casual player, and I NEVER grind. Of course,I have not mastered a single elite profession yet either, so that isthe trade off. Finally I decided I love Ranger and that is what I am going for (4,3,4,3 and SO excited!).

However, I know this is a long game. I fully look forward to playing for a very long time. It took me 4 months to do all that... but what about the next three years? Eventually I'll get tired of Ranger and want to test out other things (eventually returning to Ranger of course). The question is - can I give up the skillsI worked so hard for? YES... except for Frontiering!!!!! I really don't think I can face it again - and I refused to grind. I'd hate to feel what the grinders must be feeling about now. SoI sat down with my calculater and figured out that I can master almost every other profession, one at a time, without giving up Frontiering IV or Marksman Ranged IV (Combat xp. Ug.). The only ones I can't master are Commando, Combat Medic, and Doctor. And who knows, by the time I get there I might be willing to give up that frontiering IV for a time and earn it back later (though the idea gives me twitches).

So that is my "10 year" plan for SWG. I'm in it for the long haul baby! I've never had so much fun, or met so many crazy, wonderful, admirablepeople (in game AND in the forums /blowkiss Delta, NRaas, Riis).

But who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and Ranger will open my Force Slot. Then the ten year plan will be put off while I drag my poor little Jedi through the skill trees over and over (I die constantly). Either way, it will be fun!!!!

Well this master ranger seems destined to become a master fencer. Can't say that I'm impressed with having to grind other professions on the way to becoming jedi though.

I'm going to be dropping ranger grudgingly one box at a time,I can't see me ever dropping the Frontiering line as it was too painful to get in the first place. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to become master again at the end of it all...

Most of my friends have been following the jedi bit since the start of the game. Long discussions in PA chat about if this or that mission is going to lead anywhere, do gas lairs have anything to do with it, etc, etc. I joined the game as a cynic feeling that a) it likely doesnt work because base systems like chat dont and b) that when the path to FSS is finally revealed I will be disgusted.

B) has come to pass and I am undecided still on A). The very idea that your primary character is nothing but an XP grinding machine in one pointless effort after another to get a FSS slot, is insulting. There are lots of professions I want to try, there are lots I will play in the long term, but at no point ever do I want to be told what I have to play, and thats essentially what the holocrons are doing. If you want the big fat FSS carrot you must play this class, and then this one, and that one...

The FSS is no longer a carrot for me as of the placement of the holocrons. I will not play what they want me to play. Its my free time and I will bloody well play the class that I enjoy and they can shove the carrot where... well you get the idea

Its so freaking easy to become a Jedi. I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Here is how I did it.

Get a good fishing pole, 98 or better Quality.

Go fishing at sunrise or sunset only. You have to go as deep as you can without swimming. A large lake is the best.

When you catch a Yoda fish, you fillet it and eat it and zap bang you are a Jedi !

Thats all there is to it.

I havn't heard any of the devs come out and say "Holocrons are the key to becomming a jedi". Has anyone else? I put alot of time and effort into being a Ranger, and im workin on Master Ranger, which is going to take some more time and effort. Don't get me wrong, if i unlock my slot, of coarse i am going to make a character. But it aint going to be used to run around and work down everyone i see. Id rather keep him on the down low, so barley anyone knows. It would be better that way anyway.

Well, thats what i think bout it
