Thread: State of the Profession (Oct 14)
I said it that way because one of the items on the list was to grant melee users the to hit bonus also. IMHO all skill should apply to all rangers sooner or later so I figured that maybe we should put the request in that way from the beginning. I am still hoping that I will one day get the to hit bonus.
I guess that I feel that we should be treated as a whole instead of diferentiating by combat class. If that means that ranged users get something I don't, I will have to just deal with my choice to be a melee combatant and be happy for my ranged counterparts but I don't believe skills should be added specifically for me. Share the love so to speak.
A slight modification to the bow information.
Now, instead of not drawing assistive creatures (or in conjunction with not drawing assistive creatures), firing the bow could not break /maskscent or /camo.
Just an idea
"I said it that way because one of the items on the list was to grant melee users the to hit bonus also."
I see where your going... I think I will rewrite those requests to be more in sync with each other. ![]()

Actually thatis part-and-parcel with the Silent Shot idea... I will make that more obvious. ![]()
I don't know either if the debate about the bow is going on elsewhere, but I'd like to respond to Gooberosity. I agree that the bow should be a little technical in nature (or look) since it is SW. But remember there are whole classes devoted to swords and rapiers, and not all of those are "vibro." They are pretty low-tech. But low-tech or high-tech they can still cause damage. A bow can kill you just as easily as a gun.
They are just a lot slower to reload!

Been thinking about the bow. I'll admit, I glossed over the previous debate on it, so I apologize if I'm asking stupid questions.
What combat skill will this be tied to? Rifle? Your current one? None? I see mention of a dmg modifier akin to Rifles. I can't see this being tied to the skills in any combat profession, as that would exclude a number of us... So I'm assuming this will be a brand new thing -- with all modifiers, skills, specials, and bonuses included in the Ranger tree?
Which branch?
A lot of people seem excited about this. Should we start a thread or am I just behind on it? ![]()
Like a previous poster mentioned.. I too am on the fence, but uneasy about it.
I think that akin to the bounty hunter line, specifically, the LLC, the bow should have its own skill and certification tied into the Novice Ranger.
Novice Ranger +20 skill/ +20 spd (20/ 20)
Level 1: +10 skill/ +10 spd (30/ 30)
Level 2: +20 skill/ +20 spd (50/ 50)
Level 3: +10 skill/ +10 spd (60/ 60)
Level 4: +20 skill/ +20 spd (80/ 80)
Master Ranger +20 skill/ +20 spd (100/100)
I also agree with the previous poster that a lot of the melee weapons, knives, pikes, swords are not as high tech as the bow and still function very well in the SW universe.
As for State of the Profession, Nraas thanks again with your quality work.
My only question is for an update on the new ranger traps. When can we expect them....
I've read a few post on how a bow isn't "Star Warsy" and its too primative for a technically advanced universe and stuff like that. However, in the real world bows have been around from the beginning and are still around today even with all the advancements we have made. Yes bows have been improved and adavanced as well but there are also many people who still use older styles of bows like the Recurve Bow and hunt effectively with them.
Since a Ranger is a master of the wild and a survialist and is really at his best outin the wilderness why couldn't it be possible for him to revert back to more primative ways of huntingsince a bow is more stealthy then a blaster or a rifle.
To me a Ranger Bow isn't so much aboutis it"Star Warsy" or not. Since there weren't anyRangers in the films and the only real wilderness scenes were with main characters theres no way of tell if they would have used Bows or not. If anything I think a bow would add character to the Ranger class by showing they know how to survive without technology.

I at least agree with ANY weapon idea. Bow, crossbow, whatever. If the ranger is adept at surving in the wilderness, how would he/she have done it without some combat here and there? As many have stated, we pretty much have to kill creatures to level up. Using /maskscent for all of our exp would be completely unfeasable and a time waster. So there should be some sort of combat ability mixed in with the ranger profession, much in the BH style. Every other profession is stand-alone in some way or another, but I believe the ranger is not currently.
We can hide - so we can hide, how would we survive once found?
We can track - can't kill it once we find it without some other profession by our side (whether our own, or another player)
We can make camps - we could heal ourselves from all the damage we took without combat ablities.
This is how it would look if we were unable to have combat abilities. I would much rather take the 4 levels in rifle for marksman and continue in the ranger tree, rather than have to take a separate profession such as Rifleman to be effective.
This doesn't make sense to me but droids show up on the animal list and not NPC list for /areatrack.
Field base, the 2 chairs behind the tents are not in the in the healing zone of the camp. can we have the chairs moved in the healing zone?
Achieving Master Ranger (made it this weekend
)was anti climatic, still don't have any good ideas for improve this
All I have to say in response to the bow is...
Anyone thinking of Ewoks? Dart guns, maybe?
Zuckuss had a snare rifle, Feltipern Trevigg had a Stun Rifle. Ewoks have their bows.
Granted, it may be a "high tech" world, but Rangers aren't about technology: they're about nature.
I think a lot of the ideas are great- the stash thing doesn't sound all too appealling, but Rangers would be able to implement some form of extra baggage. Whether it be from a pack animal, or just being able to efficiently pack things into a smaller space (maybe an extra 10-15 items carried, instead?).
I, too, would like a bigger area track- and I'm not even a Ranger yet. 500m seems like such a difficult thing to really keep having to do.. 1000m would suffice quite well, IMO.
Otherwise every minute I'd have to check /area.. again.. and again...
