Thread: RANGERS! Stand up and PROTEST-Sign this THREAD
before I started playing beta, i saw the list of professions and wanted to be a droid engineer. After beta, I stuck with it and mastered DE and was a frustrarted gamer even after the droid invasion publish.
I went on the DE forums and we all ranted and I became a very, VERY jaded gamer.
Finally I came to grips with the fact that I have no control over the direction in which this game evolves. So I tried a bunch of different profs (all of which had bugs/issues) and when I came to ranger I found that it suited my needs for what it was.
My point is you need to take everything with a grain of salt, and I know some of you have been rangers since launch and thats a helluva lotta salt to stomach. But if you let yourself get upset to the point that your problems with this game or this profession are affecting your choice to even play, maybe you should try to find another profession that you can be okwith.
this is in no way a flame on the original poster. Just trying to look out for people's sanity.

We're not the 14 year old Jedi's and BH's....let's not act like them.
I'm 14, my alt is a Jedi, and this toon is MBH/Master Ranger.
But I still won't sign.
I am sure Phen did not mean all 14 year olds, as I have a few in my guild who are fun to play with, and don't cry like babies about everything. And there are those in their 30 that act like the 14 year olds....its just a reference and notto be taken literale.
1) The devs don't give any attention to petitions, no matter how many people sign.
2) This post just proves to the devs we're no different from the other professions (namely jedi). Sadly, the reason jedi are given attention is because of their greater numbers and is not due to their main way of communicating with the devs i.e. whining.
3) I have great faith in our current policy, picking up the pieces and planning for our revamp. The Ranger community is always bouncing around new ideas. These are then recorded in a form that is well structured (with the help of Owen and others) so the devs know exactly what we want doing with our profession. To put it simply, we are and always have been the 'good law-abiding citizen' in SWG. In my opinion, this gives us an advantage over the other professions since the devs can do nothing but feel guilty for our lack of attention.
The only time we need to raise our voice is if something happens that severely cripples an aspect of our profession, such as the issue with CL and the problem with trapping xp. But even when that happens, you never see us whining and waving petitions at the devs. In those situations we have to put our confidence in Owen and Paks (no pressure, eh?

Man i thought we were passed this phase. We used to see a million of these posts on the daily basis. I have a dying guild because of the CU as well. 85 members, 60 active pre-cu, 10 active post-CU.
Now to wait patiently for one of two things. The hand of Garva to arrive and lock this or for the author to mysteriously rename the thread. My guess is the second.
No offense taken. I was kidding, I'm actually 30, not 14 (and I hope I act 30, not 14:smileyhappy

How about rather than flame the guy and dog him for his frustration of seeing Ranger's sent packing into nothingness, you respectfully and politely make some suggestions for other ways of doing it.
I don't see you guys jumping on anyone else's case like that, and many of us have been much more vocal and upset than he. Some of us have earned forum bans over how Ranger's have been treated, but you want to jump on this particular guy? Please.
Let's show him what the Ranger Community is like, instead of blasting him, and saying "so what I have the same problem and you don't see me whining about it." Cuz we do. Just in different threads, and in different manners. All of us.

The Developers have no right to ever get pissed off at us Rangers, for protesting. We have been the most tolerant bunch in this game. We are only asking for delivery of what they have promised us time and time again. We/I am getting vocal now and I will after each and every publish that goes by and they ignore us again and again. Bumped aside because they found a "new and bigger problem".
The only time we get mentioned in a publish is; fixed our p-dart.; gave our cammo to whoever wants it; rifleman get to hide from rader(something we asked for years ago)...enough.
How any team could get angry over us asking questions and protesting our treatment is beyond me.
If they thought every time they gave us a morsel of attention we took it as a promise signed in blood we will never again hear from them. Not that we hear much of anything anyway from them about us.
A post like "here's how I currently think the direction of ranger should go" from a red-name should be welcomed with open arms, debated, argued to the point of trying to get the thoughts to chance but welcomed as not a signing in blood we'll get "skill-X". Too many have thought of TH's post over a year ago as promise, but I would gladly accept more posts like that one, even if they turn and do a 180 a couple weeks later when they find out they should have read our proposals first and their idea is so contrary to what we had in mind.
Anyway, not /signed
I didnt see anyone 'jumping on his case'. I saw a lot of people defending the integrity of this forum. Nobody told the original poster to 'S.T.F.U.' and there was no name calling.
Granted, he didnt get a lot of support for his cause, but you cant call that a bash or flame just because people didnt agree with him.

"No way. Calc no signy. Protests are for the birds. "
"I'm going to protest the protest. Seriously, do you not realize that this is the one profession where I don't have to put up with this kinda junk?"
Maybe I miscontrued comments like this. I guess I'm just tired of seeing Ranger's scolded for not toeing the line of the "Ranger Forum Ettiquette". Is this a great forum? Yes. Has being the calm, mild mannered, red headed step child of SWG gotten this profession anywhere, or benefitted us in the least? Not to my knowledge. I am not suggesting a start of rants, protests, or any such action. I am saying that there is room in this forum for dissent. Not everyone wants to take what the Dev team is feeding us, and be happy about it. Not everyone wants to see us dismantled and handed out to other professions. Not everyone wants to sit back while the devs do this to us. Even the Ranger Boss himself let slip with some heavy sarcasm directed at the Dev team. Cut the man some slack is all I'm saying.
Oppma- point taken. Not everyone does things the same way. I'm not happy about the changes. I've made this clear.
But thinking logically, we know that protests and petitions are ignored by the developers. All they do is give a forum a bad reputation. So there's no point to them. They hurt us all. You cite "people who are willingto take what the Dev team is feeding us, and be happy about it." I know approximately zero of those people. Nobody is HAPPY about this nonsense. Nobody is going "yipee, they fixed the one trap that worked, and didn't fix the ones that did". I'm not happy. But tell me-- when was the last time a protest worked? In my recolection, it never has.
So forgive me if I don't respect ideas that hurt our profession. Forgive me if I'm not exactly pleasant to somebody trying to incite protest which will lead nowhere and only result in more bad attitudes and more hate. Forgive me if I try to stop this negativity that's overflowing. I'm sorry that I was slightly rude...but this isn't the kind of idea that's worthy of the mature and well-behaved people of this forum. We've let ourselves slip too far into acting childish, and you're trying to defend it as "offering a differnt view". That's bunk. I agree with the sentiment of the original poster. We've been abused and I'm not happy about it. But I don't shoot myself in the foot when I get unhappy, and I'm not about to let anyone else shoot me in the foot either.
This isn't about "differing viewpoints", it's about understanding that certain behaviors only hurt the communities, and accomplish nothing else.
