Thread: A distinction that I haven't seen made regarding our proposed Lure traps .

ok, not along the lines of a Lure trap, but you mentioned ground traps... and, i stumbled across something just yesterday..

in the Blackscale Compound, we were walking through killing a bunch of dirty lizards... when we stumbled across fields of mines... it seemed like you had to get within a certain radius to set them off, and you could see each of them on the radar and visibly on the ground... there were lots of different kinds - fire, anti-personnel, anti-vehicle, etc...

the first thing i thought when i saw them was, "Ground Traps!"... these work almost identically to how we've wanted ground traps to work... these weren't your typical "mine field" structures... these were individual traps..

anyway... i took some crappy screenshots, cause i thought you guys might wanna see:

ohhhh... i missed the point, yet again...

i think the blind would be cool, and it's sort of a single pull device... only it spawns the creature it's luring... what you're looking for is atrap, with a description that explicitly statesit is a pulling trap?...

for a thrown trap, i think it'd be fairly easy... it would just need something that bypasses group aggro, possibly having the same effect as /taunt... basically, just avoid any actual damage and i think we're in the clear... heh, it might work to just modify the definition of one of our current, useless traps...

for a ground based trap, would you like it to target a particular one, or would it provoke the closest creature?... it could either work as a variation of /taunt, or off of the ferocity system like Takanudo suggests... it would probably be best, in either case, if the creature actually went into melee combat with the trap... due to the +retreat+ issues with creatures when they leave combat, the trap would have to be tough enough the creature couldn't destroy it before the ranger could start damaging the creature... almost any damage at all would pull the creature from the trap, at which time the trap would *poof*...

i think it's the word "lure" that threw me... i think of luring as controlled spawning - luring creatures into the area... getting one creature from the herd is "pulling"... i think rangers should have both... i just, uh... can't seem to figure out what we're talking about, heh...

actually, right now, ALL traps are single-pull, unless they're AoE bombs. You can literally hit any animal in any group, and if you keep your auto-attack off, you can pull it far enough away from other creatures so that they don't assist (I believe it's 15m). So all traps (glow wire, p-dart, etc.) can be used like this. With a trap droid, you can single-pull from 64m, I believe.

Now, I still like the idea of ground traps, but as long as all traps can single-pull, I fail to see the purpose of a newsingle-pull trap.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

yeh.. i misunderstood too... but, in a different way... um... cool pics, though... right?... heh

for a lure like you are talking about, Calc... do you want something persistant, like a harvestor (better example might be something like the old covert faction detectors)?... or something more like our camps - useable environmental item that "poofs" at a given time?...

i'm kind of seeing two kinds now... one you can use like a deed (i dunno, a birdfeeder or cornspreader, heh) that causes migration of low-level critters to gather near it (within 400m)... you could place these in areas with good resource concentrations... basically, these could be used for mass harvesting... low-level creatures give a lower yield, and won't be fodder for xp grinding...

the other, would be like our old "hunting blind" proposal, but modified a bit... it would be likea camp,in that it requires you to stay in it... it would lure increasing challenging creatures into the area... a creature might linger for 4 - 5 minutes, then despawn... if you attack a creature, it closes down the blind and no more creatures will come... basically, you choose what you fight, but if you're waiting for an ancient krayt you could be there a long time, while all these other creatures come in and leave the area...

cool pics and could work....sorry but I almost woke everyone up when I read the convo in the screenie......

Rangers lead the way.

A Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air. I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Don't mean to be the voice of negativity here, but.

We had what was in essence a "lure " trap.

When we hadcamo that worked, I used to throw a trap shoot a few rounds into it's head before it found me, once it found me..it just pulled itself out.

Now..my cammo works, sort of.(as we all know it works until you shoot something, it finds you..right away). Before I had time to weaken a creature before he jumped me. I liked the skill of picking the creature farthest from the herd and taking him out..and then work my way in. Took skill, in manuvering myself into the correct positions to achieve that.

With a lure trap, imho, we are just asking for things back that have beentaken away from us. Like the way our cammo used to work...remarkably like the riflemans cover skill now. I'd be happy with our camo back the way it used to work....instead of a "lure trap".
