I could argue that that is why we shouldn't get any combat skills (I am not saying that I will argue against combat skills for Rangers). If you don't need combat skills to level the profession, how can you argue that the profession needs combat skills?

Did you know you can get through all of scout and ranger without having an extra combat profession. I'm in a guild and the majority of my xp for scout/ rangerI gained just by throwing traps and harvesting, while my friends got combat xp.....
Hmmm what does that tell you, while most of us (myself included) have a combat profession as well, there is room in the ranger skill tree for some sort of combat skill. This argument that we as rangers use our brains instead of brawn is valid, except I don't have to be a ranger to do that either.I could very easily be a fry cook and rifleman and do most of the same things that we rangers use now.Ranger as a profession needs some sort of bonus, weapon or whatever for PvP and fighting NPCs. So lets get over the we are better than everyone attitude we have right now becasue we have to use our head, and realize it is ok to have some PvP put into the ranger trees.

What I'm in favor of is putting some GCW into the Ranger trees (of course, that requires the existence of a meaningful GCW, butI digress). Now if that translates into PvP skills, then fine, I'm all for it.
It is unjustifiedthat any elite profession, whether combat or support, should be without a UNIQUE and CRITICAL role in the larger CGW.Our skill set currently does notmeet that standardIMHO.

I'll say again mate, like in the previous post, its not the community who think it should be PvP vs PvE, its the devs. The devs will not add new skills without removing old ones, and I would rather they fixed the skills we have now than replace them with skills that a huge chunk of the Ranger community(and indeed, the general playerbase) will never use.
I understand your argument Gadon, but I don't think it applies to what Shaw is proposing. Look at Fred's stealth proposal, like he said it is not a "new" skill that needs to have a new tree created for it, it's just and an extension of a previous to make it apply to PvP as well as PvE.
I think most of Shaw's ideas are pretty similar. Trapping on humanoids and modular camps would change nothing to our skill boxes, just give them sort of usefulness other than PvE. That, is something I don't think is too much to ask considering how underpowered our profession is for how many skill points it costs.
I too see ranger as a support profession, but that is exactly why I think we need some of these skills. How can anyone justify 140 skill points for a bit of hunting support? It's not right. We need some things to transfer to PvP to offset the costs and realize the full potential of a Ranger.

I don't PvP because it doesn't seem right in this game. I guess its the 8 years of FPS talking.
1. If you are not in front of me, I should not be able to hit you.
Example: I shootat you, you run to the left, the lazer fire curves to hit you. This seems to me like a different version of Autoaim.
I know this is a totally different genre of gameso I might not know what I am talking about. If the PvP was more like a FPS, I would PvP.
And I do agree with you on the choice thing. I would actually enjoy PvP'ing here, I think its the physics that keeps it from making sense to me.

To me Rangers need to be a usefull profession for the GCW. Does this mean good at PvP? Doesn't have to be.
There are so many ways that a Person could be usefull for the GCW without having to be good at PvP. For Rangers I see doing recon, setting things up, being fast and able to make quick hit-and-run strikes. This means they should be able to sneak around and fast. What combat abilities they should have should be quick powerfull first shots, likely being KDs as well. Not alot in the way of defenses, Rangers defense is not being fired on at all. They definatly should be used to set up things, everything from mines, recon devices, to traps, and should be able to defuse/detect them as well.
Rangers should be the ones sneaking around, not in direct PvP. This works well with PvE as well, Rangers should have alot of firststrike type attacks, for animals, NPCs, and PCs.
Infact I believe that anybody of any profession should be able to take part activily in the GCW, should they choose to, and they should have something unique to contribute to their faction based on their profession. Like wise any profession should be able to work without the GCW as well, in PvE.
