Well, there's always the TeamSpeak server..

Whatever did happen to that, anyhow? I used the one Rohm set up once, and had a good hour or more's conversation, but never tried again, and haven't seen much mention since I've returned to SWG and the boards.

While this is getting a bit off topic, an ingame solution is a better way for me to communicate. I have a reasonably slow internet connection (and a friend borrowed my microphone and still has it). But communication can really help you make money. Talk to people and find out what the good resources are and who is buying them. You might find a really good price on some resources if you look or listen around. On Eclipse, we have a Ranger Information Network (/chat join rin) that can help you find out what resources are worth harvesting. And you can find some nice people to chat with.

Setting up harvesters for cash gain isn't a good idea. The market will crash in about 1-2 months. You'll only be supporting hologrinders (mostly because the resources you collect will be junk) and that is going away soon.

A medium harvester will in about 7500 units / dayif you're lucky because you don't know where the high deposits are. If you're lucky you'll sell this for 2cr/unit if you spam the heck out the starport. 15k... oh btw, you have to visit it regularly pay to run the machine, get power for it, make sure it's still collecting.

The resource ecomony is in really bad shape. Lot swappers andcombaters putting up harvesters for easy money isn't good. You can just as easily do a couple missionsand sell some good organic for 50 times more per unit?

This glut of resources is about to become a crash when hologrinding leaves. The only mass consumption of resources at this point is hologrinding. Most master crafters have enough of all but the very very best resources and aren't going to buy anything else.

Do you want to be a struggling miner?

I think the situation could change if they give us the ability to harvest all the resources off of a corpse. This would give us a selection of crap resources that we can sell cheaply to the crafters (there is no point making budget items based on organics now because the organics take up the majority of the price). These crafters could then buy the cheap resources mined by miners as above and create a budget line of items (they will almost certainly use all of their lots on better quality resources to save money). Yes, the mined resources will drop in value. But I think it should still be possible to make a profit on automatic harvesting (especially since the people who like making lots of money off of this will stop doing it when the rewards are not so high). But this is a sound warning--there is no guarantee that you will be able to continue making a decent amount of money like this.

Making money via resources is extremely easy, but you have to know what the customers want if you want to sell....

Selling that 10k stack of Dathomir Carnivore meat for 100k (10cpu) isn't going to happen if the stats for that meat suck on ice....no matter how hard it is to kill the creature that supplies it....

You can either sell through a vendor, as suggested above (my alt character is a Merchant, and I sell my organics that way) but make sure that you let people know that you are selling organics that way (i.e. advertise by skill or droid or word of mouth), or you can harvest-for-hire, i.e. Doctor Gonna Slayya wants 10k units of Lokian Avian meat or Tailor Dandy Threads needs 15k of Yavinian wooly and they offer "x" cpu for your effort.

If you take the latter choice, you need to learn what stats the customer is looking for. An Armorsmith is interested in OQ, Mall, SR and UT...mostly. Doc's are looking for OQ and PE on meat, etc....trying to sell a Doc 10k of crap-meat for 10cpu is like waving a rib-eye at a vegetarian...they won't bite.

Check the profession boards of other professions to see what they need and in what quantity and quality...and strike up a conversation with the Armorsmith you buy your armor from, you'd be suprised how easy it is to come to an agreement.

I really want to take a stab at making money with Ranger. I haven't even attempted selling hide, meat or bone. I tend to just harvest what the camo kits take and give alot of the other resources to friends.

I'm looking for help on what professions want in out reasources. If you are knowlegeable in another professions, post and I'll try to assemble a data base.

The other question that comes to mind is what is considered Best, Mediocre, and Grindable.

Might also be neat to track shifts but that would really require posting under specific Galaxy Trade forums.

So....not being very up on who needs what, here's about all I know.

Tailor:

Wooly. Stats do not matter.

Bristley. Stats do not matter.

Not much info for a close to year old Master Ranger. Been having too much darn fun.

I'll look the other Tailor specifics up and edit.

Avian meat is a good money maker for me, I would heartily recomend this to anyone wanting to hunt to earn credits. Sure I can sell all harvested resources by the bucket load in the 5-10 cpu price range but for real money I go for Avian meat.

The amount you harvest on planets such as Endor, Lok and Dath is significantly higher then else where. As far as taking down the tough mobs I would recomend investing some skills in CH and getting a Bio-engineered beast to tank for you. Anything with Light Armour and 50-60% Kinetic Resistance will do you proud.

hey draknev i'm a novice ranger on lowca i could really use your advise and expertise to help me in my path to master ranger. i will send you some tells but just letting you know. I need help making money because i've always just given it to my guildies but they are starting to take advantage of me trying to make me work for nothing in return. and i know guild members help each other out but... so far i have bought my own comp. armor, my own house, all my weapons the only thing i have gotten from my guild is a speederbike in return for about what 8 months of playing and hunting...all i get is "chymera i need 5k of herb meat" then i give it to them they say "thanks now i need this"...i was hoping the ranger community could give me some ideas about what i should do... leave the guild, or demand better treatment.

In terms of harvesting, I've found the biggest monkey maker to be avian meat. It should be noted that avian meat is also the biggest pain to collect. It drops in smaller quantities since the animals are lower level, and since birds are fast, you might get kited over an outrageous distance. Getting kited on dathomir is NOT a good thing.

However, since birds are generally easier prey than some of the other big nasties, this is a great monkey making opportunity for rangers who haven't built up their weapon skills yet. Wait for good shifts. Look for high OQ and PE. 800+ OQ and PE could fetch as much as 100 cpu on the Trade forums (at least on Ahazi).

Ok...here goes:

Chefs
The OQ + PE affects the power of the food.
The OQ + Flav affects the filling
The OQ + DR affects time the food affects you

Armorsmiths
The OQ affects the base statistics of the armor
The OQ + SR affects layering

Doctors
OQ + PE affects base healing/ buff number
OQ + DR affects buff length

Tailors
Stats are generally meaningless.

Chymerasword,
Feel free to shoot me an email or a tell. I always enjoy hunting with other rangers and sharing the wealth. I often have decent contracts, and I have enough spare time for fun hunting and faction fighting.

Don't forget BEs. I do not know what affects what but I do know they need OQ, PE and Fla.

They are also a good source of steady income for the resource collectors. They need server weird items from different planets. The ones I can remember off the top of my head are: Lok Whild Wheat, Dantooine Berry Fruit, and Talusian Water Vapor.

And Dathomir spider meat of course. At least it is not Endor spider meat.

Add MA for Armoursmiths effecting the encumberance of the armour. You can get rejections for letting this go too low.

Overall Quality: The single most important trait. OQ provides 50% of all armor traits. Choosing resources with high OQ is imperative when crafting armor.

Unit Toughness: Affects the durability of the armor. Generally, customers don't pay attention to this value and, as a result, neither do armorsmiths. The small benefit in terms of armor durability you might see from choosing a material with a high UT is almost always outweighed by lower OQ, SR, or Mall attributes, all of which are more important.

Shock Resistance: Affects both the general and special resistances of the armor segment. Generally you want to keep this as high as possible, although sometimes you might want to stress Mall more if you are very concerned about HAM costs.

Malleability: This resource affects HAM costs. The higher the Mall, the lower the HAM costs. There are also theories that it affects success rates - a high Mall results in fewer fails and more successes in both crafting and experimentation.
