Thread: Making Monkey In SWG Ranger Style
Right now I have 16 mil in the bank and 90% of that is with sales of hide/ bone/ meat. That is no where near some of the docs or armorsmiths or chefs, but its a decent amount of cash.
Vendors
Hide Macro
/loot;/harvest hide
Meat Macro
/loot;/harvest meat
Bone Macro
/loot;/harvest bone
then go to options---controls---keymap---custom---and bind the macro to your right mouse button (or whatever you are comfortable with), once the critter falls, you have both looted and harvested preventing lost opportunities to loot something that might be usefull.
Ok...that was a long post.
I hope this helps out a bit.
One of the problems I see is skill points, If you have already mastered ranger, a combat profession and have medic +1.... when you have enough apprenticeship points, drop medic, master ranger, and some of the wayfaring skills. You will be able to pick these back up later assuming you have maxed out scout xp. Then get yourself to hiring IV or novice merchant... it can be done very quickly. If you want to be creative, use the items you have crafted as a grind...and put them on your new vendor for sale
With minimal effort in harvesters, and vendors... you will be making more consistent money and not having to pay for much in the process.
Good hunting.

Ok, on topic but being sneaky - that is, I am not using skill points on merchant or artisan -
1. Find an artisan type, make him/her/it your friend by offering them deals on stuff. Use their vendors. You go to "Joe Baggadonuts" the local merchant and tell him - I will sell to you at what I think is a fair price, minus 10%. You can keep the items for your use, or put them on your vendor. They love you. Proviso, keep an eye on the prices the merchant charges. Anything above 15% over what you got, you pitch a **edit** and get the extra credits.
2. Harvestors - Artisan - survey - wuzzat?? I dropped 3 wind gennies, 2 mineral and a chem harvestor like 500 m from my house. I did not survey, why? I am not gonna move the stuff. You know how many artisans lose harvestors? I take what I get, be it grindable or great, at whatever is giving the most at the time. The power is a bonus. Rarely do I ever lose money there, usually more than enough to pay for all the harvestors costs, plus power for them. I never buy resources, I give some away - what a nice set of ubese I got, free, for some hides and metal. The smuggler will slice it for the free copper I floated to her to make clamps or knives or something.
3. Harvesting macro - I can only agree.
4. I never spend money on what I can get for free. Lately I spend money on weapons, more weapons, and some food buffs. Oh, I got a new killer droid, not a harvestore, a killer. Other than that, I get good meat, I get stims. I get good hides, I get armor. I get crap hides, I get clothes.
5. Craft machine. Buy one, a decent one. You can craft at home with it, with decent bennies. Best, you can use it for storage at no cost to you in your own house. I have tons of stuff in mine, just setting.
Nope, not rich, only 7 mil in the bank. And I been on strike and have not sold any hides in weeks. And werk and NASCAR have been taking up playing time too.
Good luck
JB
Sheesh, I don't think I've sold more than 3 or 4 stacks of resources since I started playing (i.e. launch). I just give the stuff away. And yet I still sit at a comfortable 3.5 mil. I'd really like to know how I got it but I'm not really sure. Maybe I just ran a lot more missions than I thought...

Making money via resources is extremely easy, but you have to know what the customers want if you want to sell....
Selling that 10k stack of Dathomir Carnivore meat for 100k (10cpu) isn't going to happen if the stats for that meat suck on ice....no matter how hard it is to kill the creature that supplies it....
You can either sell through a vendor, as suggested above (my alt character is a Merchant, and I sell my organics that way) but make sure that you let people know that you are selling organics that way (i.e. advertise by skill or droid or word of mouth), or you can harvest-for-hire, i.e. Doctor Gonna Slayya wants 10k units of Lokian Avian meat or Tailor Dandy Threads needs 15k of Yavinian wooly and they offer "x" cpu for your effort.
If you take the latter choice, you need to learn what stats the customer is looking for. An Armorsmith is interested in OQ, Mall, SR and UT...mostly. Doc's are looking for OQ and PE on meat, etc....trying to sell a Doc 10k of crap-meat for 10cpu is like waving a rib-eye at a vegetarian...they won't bite.
Check the profession boards of other professions to see what they need and in what quantity and quality...and strike up a conversation with the Armorsmith you buy your armor from, you'd be suprised how easy it is to come to an agreement.

See this is my problem: I'm only 0/0/3/0 Ranger and 2/1/1/1 Rifleman. I often cannot take down big things that give 100+ resources per kill.
Unfortunately, they dont draw the big bucks, however, its a good generic resource that almost anyone can use.
With harvesters,
get a fusion or a wind generator, take half of the output, and feed your mineral and chemical harvesters with the power they need.
If you have a decent size account...the heavy harvesters are good, however they are expensive to maintain, if you are on a budget, you cant beat personal harvesters.
If you are on Lowca... feel free to send me a tell, I enjoy chatting with rangers while i hunt.
sorry, I'm a starsider
I will, however, look into setting up a few harvesters

Well, there is always the /tell Server.name option if you really want to try talking cross server
. I just wish there was a way to set up a multiserver chat room. I might need to try /chat join Server.chat and see if it lets me...

Well, there's always the TeamSpeak server..
Whatever did happen to that, anyhow? I used the one Rohm set up once, and had a good hour or more's conversation, but never tried again, and haven't seen much mention since I've returned to SWG and the boards.
