The are of a circle is calculated by the formula:

  • Area = pi * radius * radius

pi (3.1415...)is a fudged number that someone made up way back when. To get the area you can search you multiply 3.1415 * 500m radius * 500m radius and get 785,375 square meterswhere you can see what has spawned within you search radius. These numbers are for a Master Ranger.

Hmmm, I wish it was that easy.

One circular klick - how hard is that? Klick - milspeak for kilometer.

This freaking place is getting like the moron pistoleer board, with damage per second charts and graphs.

Next, stats.

at which time I will run screaming for my best weapon, a Krayt FW sliced for speed and shoot yas all.

The correct value of pi (which is a greek symbol) is 22/7. Now those that can work a calculator will notice that this is a never ending number. 3.1428571428571 reccuring. Blame the greeks for this.

Umm, 22/7 is a rational number. Pi is irrational. 22/7 is just an approximation to pi. But why do we care anyway?

"Who would ever want to do the work to try to find that out?"

People like in this message thread that are curious about stuff like this. It's kind of like asking why someone'd climb Mt. Everest instead of just take a helicoptor up to the top.

Luckily, a helicopter can't fly to the top of Mt. Everest. There is not enough air up there to provide the necessary lift. That would be too easy.

We don't, really, but the discussion derailed to mathematics, and as at least a couple of us are close to Finals week, it's a fascinating subject that we can't leave alone.. Like rubbernecking at a car wreck, or playing with fire.

But yes, pi does not have any distinguishable repetition. Supposedly computers have been set to work on finding the extent of pi, and have failed to come to an end-point thus far.

Yes, it's a silly experiment, but if you've taken calculus (not our lizard king) you've probably asked yourself repeatedly "Who would ever want to do the work to try to find that out?"

Oh yeah..the radius vs. circumference thing... I forgot about that. The one thing i learned in college is that everything is a number that someone made up . Maybe there are some theories behind it, but anyone can make up a thoery to fit a fake number . Gotta love science.

What information does tracking give you on players? I assume Name, Range and Direction - does it give anything else like whether they are rebel or imperial, what guild they are in etc? That would be handy for PvP.

That's a shame.. I'll have to start remembering the names of all the rebels on my server. Putting their guild name in that list would be a great help.

Doing a /who [name] often gives you that extra bit of info.
