Thread: Ranger Respec
It just figures. THe night before last I dropped all my Ranger skills, figuring I could respec back up today.
Question: how many times can you use the "/ui action skillsRespec" command? One time only or any number of times before a certain date?
No I had not checked that out. I had better head over to TC and see what it looks like. I sure hope you are wrong about those numbers, because we already have to pay more than other profession to get into our Elite Profession let alone master it.

The numbers are just respec points - not actual skill points. THough it does take a heck of a lot of xp to master now. I hope they end up putting some sweet mods in those master boxes.

Tonight, I logged into the game as a TKA/Master Ranger with Novice Medic. Novice Medic was immediately surrendered so I could move and go find some damn pants. ![]()
Later, I respecced into TKA/Master Carbineer/Scout 2040. I figured that would let me go right back into Master Ranger tomorrow, when I can respec again. I did a sample respec, and here's what I found.
I was able to drop Ranger and go into Master Carbineer, all good.
When I went to drop TKA to go back into Ranger--I could only get 4442 Ranger.
In addition to the regular skill boxes, each box has another cost associated with it--the Respec cost. Novice boxes take Novice points, Elite boxes take Elite points, and things like Marksman and Scout take Standard points. For every Elite profession BUT RANGER, Novice boxes are worth 7 Elite points, Tier 1 is 8, Tier 2 is 9, Tier 3 is 10, and Tier 4 is 11 points, with Master being 12 points.
EXCEPT Ranger. Each Ranger box requires one additional elite point to "buy" in respec.
However, when you surrender Ranger, you still get the normal number of respec points.
In other words, you're selling low and buying high.
Boiled down, whatthis means is if you want to respec into Ranger while holding any other Master Elite, you will have to (re-)earn two boxes AND Master Ranger.
There is no warning on this, and the respec system does not point out the point system to you. I've been looking at it all evening and only just figure it out myself.
So, someone tell me. Why are we so costly to respec? Why are we the only class with the extra respec cost?
TheTemplar wrote:What did you mean by that, was it a known issue that ranger would cost more than any other profession? I am not talking about prerequisites(of which I know ranger is the worst)I am talking about cost in the master combattree which, from what I have heared, should map directly 1:1.
I wouldn't say it is a known issue. It has been talked about and people are split on whether we want the skill point cost reduced or not. My take on it is: not right now. We weren't considered when the CU was mapped out and planned for, since the developers believed we were not a combat profession and would not be affected by the CU. Of course we are, and we are feeling the effects, but any change they make at this point will be knee-jerk and possibly not the best in the long run. So I think most people are waiting to hear more about our revamp before we start calling for them to ax our skills.

Yes, butI do not thinkunderstand what I am saying. This has nothing to do with skillpoints it has to do with that the cost of ranger in /respec is borked (or possibly working as intended).Pre CU I wasBrawler 4400Master MarksMaster RiflesMaster CommandoPlanned post CUMaster ScoutMaster RangerMaster RiflesIf I dump brawler, and become 4004 marksman -> Master Scout (this works)Then Commando andranger should map directly over, but it doesn't because in respec ranger cost more than commando (according to my first post).Message Edited by TheTemplar on 04-28-2005 08:35 PM
Oops, missed this one. If you are remapping the OLD commando skill tree over to Ranger it should work. Master Marksman = Master Scout, Master Commando=Master Ranger, with one line to spare. The problem you are having is that the Rifleman portion of your desired template has become more expensive. Therefore if you want to get rifleman you have to steal the points from whatever other profession you had skillpoints in.
Ranger hasn't actually changed. It was more expensive than rifleman before and it is still more expensive.
All Elite professions including crafting and entertainer professions, which are now eligible for respec, cost 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 points except Ranger which costs 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 points.
