I'll tell to you a story that happened unto me.
One night the age of fifteen days I joined a royal band,
We marched from Mos Eisley out onto the burning sand."
Virgil Lance's Texas Rangers. Mountain Home, Arkansas. 1958
( Guess who got his masters in a HIPPY subject then? )
I'll sing you my Ranger song
There is no song before it
The words and tune are not my own
My joy and sorrow bore it
Beside the sea
the brambly brier
In the still of evening
Birds fly out from behind the sun
And with them I'll be leaving
The fallen leaves bejewel the ground
They know the art of dying
And leave with joy their glad gold hearts
In scarlet shadows lying
When hunger calls my weary footsteps home
The morning follows after
I swim the seas within my mind
The pine trees laugh green laughter
I met a man who's name was time
He said "I must be going"
But just how long ago that was
I have no way of knowing
Sometimes I could murder time
When my heart is aching
But mostly I just like to stroll along
The path that he is taking

(With the greatest of apologies to the original authors and to anyone who reads this. I am so very tired. But a cookiee to anyone who knows this song!)
as paks said, too much here to respond to... i just wanted to ask Saki how many times in a day they type "wookiee"...

heh, don't feel bad, that is one mistake i've made hundreds of times... i had a guildmate, a wookiee named "Cookiemunster"... i don't know how many times i tried to /tell him andgot "Cookieemunster is not online"... throw into that that my girlfriend once made me Wookiee-ookies, and the wookiee cookiee thing is really old HAT for me...
oh, and by the by... just wanted everyone to know that link i threw out earlier had nothing to do with wookiee flightsuits (i've all but given up)... it was to the hat thread in the tailor section... umm... like any of you freakin' care anyway!!...
hehe... at least i got to post a link to the wookiee-ookies...

You so win. (Is the song older than that? The version I have is by Cordelia's Dad, and I just love it, but haven't been able to find much history on it. It just feels older to me.)
really quick one before my connection times out, don't you LOVE dial up??
Lance recorded the song in 58 at which time he said it was collected by his father who got it from HIS father who collected it off an old Texas Ranger. Allegedly.
I blame Woodie Guthrie, of course. It'd be JUST my luck to be out in the wilds, sitting in camp, whittlin', when ol' Woodie toddles in and starts singing... and singing... and singing... 'till you end up screaming "SING SOMETHING CHEERFUL FFS!!!!"
