Thread: Does Mask Scent work on Krayts?
I was wondering if I should bother geting close to them w/ out a cammo kit.. does a cammo kit work better? How much XP do you get if you succesfully mask scent againts one of those monsters?
Never tried till I was a Master Ranger. It broke at 64m, I paused for the 20 second wait. Re-masked, started conceal shotting. It moved within 40m, broke the mask, was incapped, then DB'ed.
Tried this 3 times. I just don't do it anymore. Found out you can start shooting them at 70m now though (67m for the juvis).
Not Applicable
Actually, I'm not sure if either really work that well on Krayts and huge creatures. Actually, camo breaks on small creatures, just like maskscent. I believe that I've been maskscented around some larger Kimos recently, and didn't get aggroed. My mount (that I was on at the time) wasn't so lucky. Kinda funny/horrifying to see a giant kimo running after you (but not attacking you) and then suddenly the kaadu you're on is dead. I'm proud to say he withstood 3 hits before succumbing!
Maybe I'll go try this out and give you a better answer. I'm Master Ranger though, so your results may vary.
I've noticed the more aggressive the creature, the greater the chance it seems to have at breaking mask scent...and considering all the high cl creatures are hyper-agressive, it would make sense. Kreetles, by the way, are also very aggressive...this would correspond to the "kreetle problem" people seem to have with them. In fact, if I recall correctly, they are the most aggressive low cl aggro creature in the game.
As far as I know, aggression has no impact on success rate...
- The success rate is based purely on the Creature Level, of which Krayts happen to be reasonably well endowed.

I am testing the Kreetle "issue" myself to see if I can reproduce the problems people have been having...
- I will get back to you all once I have run through a dozen more nests or so.

I was just on Lok and found that the little kimos would break me about 25%. I also saw my first full-grown kimo - standing over my incapped body. I wasn't paying attention to the sizes, never having seen a full grown one, and it saw me, and nailed me before I even knew what was coming. I then tried several times to approach the big one and it broke me about 80%.
I have approached krayts and not broken. But that was before this recent spat of easy breaking.
Back when all I had was scout level 4, I was able to sneak up on ancient bull rancors fairly regularly. It involved a lot of crawling along on my belly and running like crazy when they aggro'd.
No idea about Krayt's though.
I'm a master Ranger with +32 mask scent (wearing apparell), and still no good for kyrats,
but they work well with Rancors, etc.
I guess my answer will be different. I hunt a lot, and I prefer to hunt big creatures. My maskscent brakes only 50% of the time for regular Kimos (lvl 90). It also brakes only at about 70% at juvenile krayts, but it will always brake at any other types of krayts. Also, for the reference, it has about 20-30% chance to brake for ancient bull rancors (lvl 95). My guess is that it's somehow related to the level of the creatures you can trap. I'm a master ranger and I can trap kimos, juvenal krayts and ancient bull rancors with almost no problem, but my traps will never work on anything over lvl 120 no matter how many time I'm going to throw them. Same thing with maskscent. I can't hide from anything over lvl 120 (not that it's that easy to find agro creatures over lvl 120, but giant dune kimos and krayts brake my maskscent every time).
