Over from the chef forum and just wanted to touch base with you guys. The prices for meat/bone/hide/milk are kindof crazy and all over the place atm based on what I can see there.

What I'd like to know is (regardless of server differences) is what you personally value your time at in bringing home the bacon for all us guys: doc, BE, chef, etc.

Chefs value pe, flav, and oq/dr in order of importance. Lets use as a model then lets say wild meat pe800+ flav800+ oq700+ dr500+ as an example. I currently pay rangers 30cpu for this quality (whetherfood or structural) but I see prices jumping all over the place. Is this reasonable?

What are your thoughts in terms of cpu for high quality creature food and structural?

Well this is a huge topic of debate. I think your biggest response would come from the weekday crew don't know how much they get on during the weekend here. Think they spend much of their time playing.

Personally I don't do much in the way of pricing. I am just a harvester. Sell to Frederick Skinner. He would definately give you his thoughts on pricing.

Unfortunately there are a few things to consider with the pricing of organics.

  • The Economies are Screwy

  • The current hologrinders are demanding

  • The new chef foods make organics more demanding

Simply put the demand for organics keep rising a lot faster than there are harvesters. And with publish 7 how many will drop scout all together?

Sorry I don't have an answer but be prepared for a wide variety. I can't wait to read Skinner's if he sees this.

I agree that the economy is ....."interesting" to say the least. Agonthalia (Draknev) and myself work a lot on a barter basis, and if we don't barter we try to keep our prices reasonable. A lot of Ranger's figure their time and effort in to this, and I do as well to a small extent. Mainly when the resources only drop in very small quantities, i.e. Corellian anything. Just because it takes so long to gather.

I try to keep my prices right around 20-25 cpu for high quality resources. If it's off the hook ridiculously good quality I'll go up some but not much. Average quality resources on my server I sell for 5-10 cpu, depending on demand.

Now in my travels I have learned that I am in the minority when it comes to pricing like this. Most other folk sell high end resources for considerably more on Lowca, mostly because people will pay it.

My "two cents".

Ok, here is what I find interesting -

Igo to one doc and offermeat at 40cpu. This is 995 OQ, all stats except flavor over 850.He can't afford to pay "me" that. Read that as I been giftinghim with stuff forhis hologrinding. Ok, no sweat. Tho JB knows she got 10 million forhis freaking holos.

A week later another meat is the same. He approaches me, wants a load - at 60-80 cpu. Except load 2 is Dath avian, way harder to get, especially in quantity. That and the universe is all on Dath, hitting the fliers.

It's not us making the prices insane. If a tailor sold a shirt for what it cost, plus 10%, LEAVING OUT THE PRICE OF THE FREAKING FACTORY IN EVERY BATCH, then prices would drop 1000%. But every artisan I know figures in the price of the factory in every load, like the freaking thing needs to be replaced daily. Reckon not many have taken Econ 100 and 101 yet.

Oh well -

gonna go charge 60 CPU and make people happy, specially me.

I and others have said it before.

There aren't many rangers. People pay 60-100cpu, and you can't expect us not to take that just like JB said. Do I offer friends huge discounts? Am I trying to form a group that sells at a fair rate? Yes yes yes. So far we have SIX people. We haven't even gone on a single group hunt yet.

Ranger is not a desireable class to play for most. I'm not flaming you for your question, but simply telling you this: help us get the devs to let us either harvest more or make the class more desireable and then you'll see prices go down.

Currently there are two ways to get cheap organics. Become good friends with a ranger, or harvest yourself. Thats it.

I personally limit to 20 cr/u (perfect 1000 on all stats) or less. I don't go for the grind market, I do that on my spare time, however, or those moments were hunting Rancors sounds like fun . My typical pricings have been 12-18 cr/u depending on stats. I have no want for customers, and have made a personal fortune at this price. Certanly not billions but a few million, and I have made my hunting partners rich as well, buying jut one cr/u less then I sell. I see no reason to increase my prices.

Probelm is merchants have offered MUCH more to get their large initial stocks. I can't keep hunters working for me if they can sell for 5 times to the oddball merchant that offeres for 100's of cpu. Some have got it into their head now to expect this price so now you will have a real hard time beating it back down again. I can't harvest enough to do this.

Hate to say it but the ball is is your court. Hunting is harder then mining by far so expect a tenfold increase from mining at least. Don't expect to get a lot of hide for below that, it's too labor intensive right now to do that.

I do agreee (personally) that 20 is a bit much tho. I would see if you could band together and refuse to buy above 30, but that is just me. You have some in your comunnity that have offers out in the 100's, you might want to talk to them

I feel that if we had a tenfold increase in harvest or greatly reduce your schematics requirements the resonable people can undercut the unresonable enough to drop the prices again. There are just not enough hunting for harvest to supply the merchants.

Another issue is availability. Non-hunters want the moon when it comes to stats. I can't blame them there, but we can only work with what's available. Right now Dathomir Insect is a hot ticket, but consider the accompanying risk factor. Considering the amount of stims, foods, and pet stims, not to mention insuring my equipment every time I get capped bya Nightsisteron Dathomir, there's no way I can see selling that meat for 20cpu.

Also, I have had an issue with cooperation. Non-hunters want top-notch stats, often refusing to accept amounts in less than 1-5k bundles, and even wanting me to track them down for a face-to-face transfer because they either don't have or don't want to use a vendor. I suppose if you go out with a big hunting party and torch every nest to the ground, you can rake in big numbers, but for me and my lone pet, it's a costly proposition. Don't believe me, Doc? I'll provide you the biggest pet you can handle and let you have a go at it. I'm sure it won't be long before you're back in the spaceport charging people in advance through the nose for buffs.

Frankly, you're lucky that there are those of us who love this profession enough to go out and put it all on the line so you can have material to work with.

Personally I'm a somewhat greedy kinda guy and will sell to the highest bidder. Therefore when I see a good meat/hide with good stats, I'll gather some and then auction it off. That way it's whoever wants it bad enough gets it, and I get money. Perhaps not really fair to the little people who are broke, but then again on Tarq we haven't had good resources for decades it seems so.... things go up in value.

Gracchus,

The biggest problem with your question, and one I'm surprised I've not seen specifically mentioned, is servers. These 60-100cpu prices that people talk about are quite literally unheard of on my server. I sold decent-but-not-great quality leathery hide for about 12cpu on the bazaar, and not only did I fail to sell all of it (one stack failed) but it was almost a week before any of it was bought. I'd used the fairly reasonable prices provided in the price-guide devised by Volsted, and had trouble.

So whatever responses you get on here will be highly colored based on the server of the speaking Ranger. The economy of one server may be such that selling quality resources for 20cpu wouldn't be worth the Ranger's time, as he's paying notably more for his weapons, armor, clothes, buffs, etc. than 20cpu is worth, whereas on another server, 20cpu would be considered pretty pricey.
