Thread: Renaming the Ranger to...?

Every instance of Ranger in the Star Wars universe is built around paramilitary skills exactly as the new Ranger is laid out. A few examples:
Antarian Rangers
Imperial Sector Rangers.
Both were para-military organizations who specialized in stealth, infiltration and "dirty work". Seems very appropriate, no? The only people this would be confusing to are those who come in with images of fantasy-based Rangers. Anybody who understands that this is not a fantasy game will realize that Ranger has military connotations in real life, as well as in the unverse in which we are participating. I say the title fits perfectly.
How about little faction specific quests that allow you to become one of the SWG Ranger groups? That would be good.
That said: your suggestions would be interesting titles for new branches of the skill tree....
If this were DnD or some other fantasy MMORPG then sure the name should change. This is SWG however and the new Ranger is far more in line with what a Modern Ranger should be.

As a preface, congratulation to the »enhancment«. Its was sorely needed.
Unfortunately, the original design of professions placed them very close together so the main job of the developers probably was to divide the professions in order to make them unqiue (which is great). But with the relocation of Ranger skills to the Scout tree, the name »Ranger« is no longer adequate and confusing, especially to new players.
I am aware that a name people have sticked to for a long time is important as an absolute term which also probably donated a good deal of identification. However, do you think it would be better to rename Ranger to something that does not lead new players astray, maybe sound even better and avoid that the now empty word Ranger is filled with the (in my opinion) wrongconnotation of thiefs and rouges?
I would suggest Infiltrator, Spec-Ops or Spy. What do you think?
(please do not flame, I know that might be a sensitive area, its just a discussion and even though I am in lightblue, I am speaking as a player)
Agree!!

I don't know, I like the name Infiltrator.
In the pen and paper SW RPG Scout was one of the starting professions, but was geared more towards blazing a trail though space/new planets, not uber Hunter.
Plus, one of the elite classes was call Infiltrator, which specialised in getting into and out of secure facilities. They were also able to handle themselves well if discovered and had to fight their way out.
As I see it, reamining a Master Ranger-Master Rifleman makes me more like a Marine Scout-Recon/Sniper
