Weaker class? This is a semi flame, so be prepared.

So what are you using your other skill points on? I am a Master Ranger, Pistoleer 0-2-2-2. Medic 2-0-4-0 and novice CH. Weak my butt. And I still got some points left and am working to use those in Pistoleer and CH.

Camps, very useful, if you know how to use em. Go hunting with a group, the camp is a mobile medcenter /crafting center. Just because your group hasn't figured out how to use it to it's advantage does not mean it's lame.

Areatrack - awesome. I can find "the enemy" in town, while still outside of town. I can find animals in a 500m radius, more or less. NPCs, who cares? BH's you say? Why golly, another use. Sorry you don't get a waypoint to pin the beast down, you actually have to read your compass and guesstimate distance.

Camo is broke, give it some time. Of course if you want to be invisible, ain't gonna happen. Even the most skilled snipers will tell ya, more than one shot and you are compromised.

Animals. I am soloing most reds, with minimal damage. Solo, no tank, no pets, no droids, Solo. Includes NPCs (no ATSTs tho, not since they took bleed away).

Weaker class, I don't think so. If you are willing to expend a little effort it's a great class - oh, what's that? Effort, you ?? There is the problem, you want to be Uber, invisible, with magical powers, and not have to think, or use tactics, and you will not be able to max everything you want and master all the missions in a week.

JBMat... you took the words out of my mouth...

I'm having so much fun with ranger (Only 0-1-1-1), but being a ranger is more a playstyle than a set of skills IMO... and the skills is making it easier

I use the crafting stations to craft my camo kits They work fine for what we would use them for.

Now the food/chem station: It is a public station, and most players who would usethat station are in "need" of a better and therefore have their droid.

JBMat, your ability to solo reds has very little to do with the Ranger class. I would look at your pistoleer, novice CH, and medic supporting skills as the reason why you solo reds.

The author of this post makes some valid points and there does need to be some tweaking and refining to the class. I think the Ranger class will eventually be polished to the point were it is enjoyable but I am slowly giving up my Ranger points myself and having fun trying out different professions. I think Tracking is our best line at the moment however the way the mobs spawn when you move into an area sometimes throws it off. Thankfully they made the tracking ability faster so you can check it more frequently for less time.

I think the High Tech Field Base is almost there, but not quite. That fancy laser fence needs to repel creatures for starters and the ability to show up on the planetary map will be nice when implemented. I think if you could reduce Battle Fatique , even at a penalty it would be a great help also.

Camps- Tell me when these are useful if u have a doc in your group? The docs always come with tons of stims to lessen downtime, so camps are pointless there. The only thing my camps did for my group was ADD to downtime because they wanted to help me lvl.

Area Track- The 500m sux if you are in a non flat area because if the terrain elevates it Adds to the tracking, so if you are in a mountanous area you only get around 300m, maybe even less.

Camo- Said to work 95-99% of the time... It works less than maskscent does, which is a Scout skill.

Trapping- Completely pointless, all ranger traps suck, and who knows when they will implement the new ones?

Animals- Ranger doesnt help you solo animals, more than often it BRINGS packs onto you when the creatures break your conceal. And you soloing comes from your pistoleer skills, which im sure ur using healthshot 1 & 2, and body shot2 from the pistol skill tree (pistoleer is a whole nother issue)

I dont want to be uber in any way, I want my skills to be USEFUL to my group, or me alone. I use scout traps, which dont work that often, the camps are pretty worthless becuz the regen increase isn't all that great. The crafting machines are not very useful because they increase downtime and medics/docs come equip with their meds or buy them b4 hand. And whats with the creature to hit bonus? Or the crawl speed bonus? Those help me OUT so much because i see a huge diff with the creature to hit bonus and im always crawling so i can be warped backwards...

I thought the new stuff would make the Ranger class alot more fun, and it was exciting at first to see alot of new things. But the new things are just about as good as the old. The Camo kits are too difficult to find the ingredients for, and even when you can make them, they are still pretty worthless in groups. The Camps are as useless as always, the only thing ppl use them for is scenery for downtime, and i've never seen any1 use the crafting kits in the camps. Tracking has no point to it because of the short range and the truncated list, so you can't find wut u are lookin for most of the time anyway. Trapping, still useless, scout traps are better. I still see no difference between the Scout and Ranger classes. Scout has maskscent, which in my opinion is better than camo kits because it takes nothing to use it. The camps only get bigger, the health modifier is not that big of a difference, and none of the crating tools are used. Camps still disappear upon battle and they still dont repel agro creatures. All this patch did was add new worthless skills by replacing previously worthless skills. I would think that this class would be decent, consideringyou have to MASTER an entire class to even get to it, yet any SINGLE bar in the artisan line beats this class. Kind of odd...

Just thought i'd share what i felt, doubt many care, but this is really startin to piss me off.

Since I am in a whining mood I thought I cross post my post from the Rifle side since it deals with Rangers:

I started my main character as a Ranger. I assumed I would pick Rifleman as my main weapon since it seemed to make sense.

I wanted a character who would be the best at hunting animals.

I was not interested in huntingother people.

I was not interested in becoming fastest draw, Billy the Kid and dueling other people.

I was not interested in becoming Dr. Doolittle and talking to the animals.

I was not interested in becoming Rambo the Commando and winning the GCW.

Yet, I find that if I had become a Pistoller Ranger or Beast Handler or GI Joe Commando or Joe Everybody Bounty Hunter, I would be able to hunt and kill creatures better than I can do as a almost Master Ranger/Rifleman.

I can make a pretty camp and shoot things from exactly 60m but when it charges and snare trap misses, I have to switch to my pistol or suffer the 2.5x damage.

But not to worry I see the Imp Bounty Hunter with his Eyeshot and 2 ATST wipe out the whole spawn in 60 seconds. lol

Maybe I better try another server and start a bounty hunter Imp if I want to hunt. l

Was Ranger ever ment to be A strong class? Combat wise?

It appears to me with advances made to the Ranger Class , Ranger is an extenstion to Scout , just like Creature Handling Is. Or like Rifleman/Carb/Pistoleer is to the marksman Tree.

Weaker compared to an At-st groupped Bounty Hunter, DUH what isn't weaker than that?

We had to get to Ranger threw use in some form of Combat. Alot of us have used rifles, pistols , melee, 2h sword etc.

But Ranger is not a Combat Class bottom line, never looks like it was intended to be.

Combat Support , Combat Supplement yes we excel at that, even better than scouts do. (Creature to hit Bonus's etc, trapping, camps)

Instead of complaining about Ranger Skills Look at your Combat Profession and everyone elses combat profession, and how lop sided combat truely is.

On the other hand Rangeris expensive on the skill points, I happen to love it, for those that don't like it its there own choice what they want to do.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think you guys are interpreting this post differently. I thought he meant what a lot of us also feel, that Ranger is weak as an Elite profession versus some others, i.e., class defining skills/roles, etc. I think we all agree that there is plenty of work in that regard that still needs to be done, things are still quite broken. If you don't think so, look at all of NRaas's posts with our Ranger "issues".

So anyway, I agree with the original post. Though many of his comments are valid, they've been brought up by many of us before.

If you are refering to my post then you had better READ it again, You missed the whole point !

I don't give a rats a$$ about COMBAT. I am talking about HUNTING ang killing animals. A Ranger is supposed to be a HUNTER.

ATST's were not designed to hunt animals

Bounty Hunters were not designed to be hunters.

Rangers are supposed to be hunters and by the way normal hunters use rifles not Flame Throwers, AT ST's etc.

Have to agree with you JBmat, I totally play ranger not for the skills but because of the play style. Camps kick butt.. when my PA goes out on a hunt we have a MasterDoc/CM with us as well as a Master Bio. They use the crafting station and keep us out longer. Now if only the HighTech would come with some blowup dancers we would be set hehe. The traps?? I use them all the time and quite effectively, just have to figure out what works on what and take notes. Kinda makes it real.. some things will work against certain creatures better than others.. Tracking?? never been better.. now I can do explore missions alot faster none of this run around blindly hoping to find what I am looking for. Camo kits.. well they did come out and say it was broke so nothing to complain about there. If you use the time now to gather resources for the camo kits and store it away for when they fix it you might save yourself some time..
