Thread: Sorry, Rangers

I guess we find ways to have fun with what we have. Its kind of like buying a gift for your kid, and they play with the box it came in for hours....
Yeah, what we have is underpowered, uncreative, nerfed, and bugged.... but dammit, I still have fun.
I'm not sure that's a fair comparison--some of those boxes are really fun.
Wow, seriously what have we all been doing? I suggest Calc gets his act together and we all think about where this prof should go, i dunno, maybe create a 'proposal', called, ummmmm, the 'Woodsman' or 'Outdoorsman' or something. Jeesh, Calc's really dropped the ball, AND he's buggered off for a holiday!

"Further advice was given that the ranger community needs to assemble definitive information regarding what specifically needs addressing. "
Oh my God, what a crazy idea!! How come nobody else ever thought of this before?

Typical deflection by the devs, as we've seen time and time again.

This completely flies in the face of Thunderheart's last answer for us. Either he is lying or they are. I am sick to death of the developers pushing us off as the red headed step-child of the professions. The Outdoorsman Proposal is as clear and concise a piece of "definitive information stating what needs to be addressed" as ANY PROFESSION has accomplished.
The developers utter contempt and ignorance for us as a profession has reached an all time high. I am quite frankly, sick of it. Sick of them lying, sick of the left hand not knowing what the other is doing, sick of them feeding us a line every time there is a small rumble in the community.
Calculus Entropy: I challenge you to go to Thunderheart at the first available opportunity and address this quote from fan fest with him. Which is it? Have they lied about even looking at The Outdoorsman proposal? Or have they decided (yet again) that it does not meet (in direct relation to this quote) "definitive information stating what needs to be addressed". Are we again going to hear from TH, you need to list a list of a list of a list, like we did with the top 6, like we did with the million monkey proposal, like we did with the Outdoorsman Proposal?
It's time for the devs to step to the plate. We did what was asked of us. They need to respond appropiately.
I concur whole-heartedly. This is nothing short of supreme bullsh*t. The DEVs need to just be straight up about this and give us a black and white answer. Either yes, we are going to get a revamp and it will be done with a target month/year of blah .....or no, it'll never happen - we want to phase out Rangers. The outdoorsman blows the doors off what they need from us and I for one will not spend another moment on fleshing out ideas just to do "busy work" while we're ignored. To the contrary, if we cannot get a straight and definitive answer onif and whenwe'll see fixes commence to our profession, I will start brainstorming ideas to make the Rangers noticed. We've been tolerate, patient, honorable, and totally understanding ....but there is a limit to respect when none is given in return. If only the "squeeky wheels" around here get the grease, I suppose we'll have to jump on the whine, b*tch, moan, gripe, and rant bandwagon.

Woah! Calm down a tad. TH said that he himself personally was a big fan of the Outdoorsman proposal and bring sit up every chance he gets. We don't even know who answered this question, so before we all get up in arms, let's just take a breather and see what pans out. TH isn't the ONLY developer out there. And I'm pretty willing to say that he didn't lie to us. I think this was just a dev who wasn't as familiar with the Outdoorsman proposal as TH is.
FYI if I remember correctly the Smugglers got the same answer from TH and they have done the same kind of work that the Rangers had done, and are livid

We've got a post here from someone who's not a Ranger, who has some "information" from the fanfest (heard/read himself from the source? orvia via via via?). The Dev/SOE rep/whatever is not mentioned by name.I suppose there is some truth in this (although, how many posts haven't been made by people claiming they closed the fscs unlockingbecause they had done 25+ slots and still haven't unlocked?). What can we believe?
- A ranger, or a ranger buddy ask a question when Ranger gets some love
- A person working forSOE/Lucasarts answered this question with the knowledge at his disposal
- The knowledge at his disposal is more or less the Publish Schedule JustG posted sometime back, with a few updates
- Not seeing Rangers mentioned at all (including the P10 correspondent issues (we're not mentioned because they pretty much have all they could ask from us)) He just made up a nice sounding story about the need to balance issues and because rangers weren't explicitly mentioned, the need for defining our problems
- Not knowing that all our ideas already take up 2 filing cabinets and were much too lumpy to drag to the fanfest.
Why oh why do people rate a post from some guy/gal higher then the post from a dev/correspondent? Is it because this post tells/confirms what you halfway already believe and the devs seem to string us along? Is it really so hard to get that in a game with 34 professions, a pvp/pve combat systems, various means of transportation, player cities, an economy, a galactic civil (cold) war, an upcoming expansion, serverclusters, a clientside program and a network capable of supporting a couple of hundred thousand players a semi-broken profession with a small but loyal playerbase doesn't rate very high on the priority list?
Possibility one: It takes too long, only 10 rangers left on all servers together, profession gets faded out.
Possibility two: Ranger population fluctuates up and down due to various small fixes and "nerfs" we get and slowly we end up with a very enjoyable professions with a decent chunk of the playerbase.
MMO Player 102: Never Believe Their Answers
Washell,
First, let me assure you that I am at FanFest and the only reason I did not attribute a name to the developer is that not being a ranger myself I wasn't taking notes at the time. Several hundred others were in the room, so I have little doubt after FanFest ends and these folks get back to their home computers this will be mentioned.
Now, as to whether or not the dev speaking had good information ... well, obviously I can't speak to that. I've made several fan fest updates on various forums today and you'll note that on most I tried to attribute at least a partial quote to specific individuals. I do this so that you can make your own decisions on the matter.
I do apologize for the inherent judgement in the title of the post, I was kind of surprised by how easily the concerns of a profession were first admitted to being real and then immediately afterward brushed off (in my opinion anyhow) and it did show a little in the tone of my title.
