Thread: The Master Ranger Ceremony: suggested text

This is something in the back of my mind for a while now, particularly since I was recently conferred the honour of Master Ranger as D'nara, and while I don't consider myself a "roleplayer", I like to get into the whole thing and make an event of such matters rather than just getting some random passer-by to teach me on a Mos Eisley high street. You can see what we did to celebrate by following this thread.

So, anyway, I was bored at work today and I am sure it can be improved upon but here is my first attempt at the Ceremony of conferring the title of Master Ranger. I'd love to hear feedback and try and improve it. I'd love to see the Antarian Ranger guilds around the galaxies really get into this as well. I kind of them see them as a natural home for such things as these.

I should also list my sources. Almagill should get a significant reference for his recent "Ranger are the real Jedi" post which had some nice poetic phrases in it. I also have lifted significantly and without shame from the Church of England's ordination ceremony... it's an ordination ceremony so why not.

As I say, would love to hear comments or contributions. If people are interested, I'll edit the ceremony post with the improvements to keep it flowing!

The gathering must take place by the edge of a suitable expanse of water. A lake, river or seashore is acceptable. A High Tech Field Base must be set in place by the Master Ranger-Elect, preferably the first HTFB that they crafted themselves.

President stands and addresses those gathered

In the vast expanse of the galaxy, we make our journey knowing not where our pilgrimage will take us or where it will end. We travel as strangers in a strange land but do so knowing that we have a journey yet to make.

N reaches a crucial moment in his/her journey today as he/she is recognised as a Master Ranger.
For all involved, particularly the candidate but also friends and family, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice, but also make serious promises and declare our allegiance to the ideals of the Ranger. The wider Ranger community honour the new Master Ranger, promising support for the future. And in hearing and doing these things, there is opportunity to remember our own calling and reflect on the progress we have made on our own journey.

As we honour N today, we picture them with the whole Ranger community throughout the ages, journeying into the fullness of a time honoured code and a craft that is amongst the oldest in our galaxy.

When a novice arrives amongst us, they have already made a journey as a Scout and proved themselves worthy of training. Like those who have gone before him/her, N has grown in the ways of the Ranger and become a worthy representative of our class in the Galaxy. He/she has proved his/her skills in hunting, tracking and survival. He/she now stands ready to adopt a title that has been well earned.

And so we say...

All

The Ranger is at one with the worlds,
taking from it only what is necessary and wasting nothing.

The Ranger seeks good for all life around him,
knowing that nature is our provider and our partner.

The Ranger seeks no glory
but dwells with the unseen and neglected.

The Ranger always thinks first;
rash action brings swift justice on all.

The Ranger is a compass
and a pathfinder for the lost.

The Ranger is not a profession,
simply a lifestyle.

Candidate steps forward

Master Ranger Sir, I present myself today
in agreement with the ways of the Ranger
and ready to serve its code.

President

As a Master Ranger, you embark on a life-long journey.
Together with all Rangers everywhere and throughout time
you must explore the way of survival
and grow in friendship with the land,
and in serving others.

With us, will you listen to the call of the wild
and receive the gifts that it brings.

Candidate

I will

President

Will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance
as your inspiration and guidance
in bringing the ways of the Ranger
to this generation?

Candidate

I will

President

Will you accept the discipline of the Ranger community
and faithfully exercise authority within it?

Candidate

I will

President

Will you be diligent in your craft
seeking to deepen your knowledge of the galaxy
and all that has life?

Candidate

I will

President

Will you strive to fashion your own life
and that of your household according to the way of the Ranger?

Candidate

I will

The Presidents stands; the Master Ranger-elect kneels before the President

We call upon the power of the Force
to enable N for the office and work of a Master Ranger.
We confer this title now
and all the authority that belongs to those
who are given this sacred charge.

President takes up the ceremonial knife and says

The Ranger is at home on land and in the water.

President kneels, rubbing the knife in the soil and says

We consider the gift of soil that nourishes plants, animals and all alien races.

President walks to the water's edge and wades in until the knife has been submerged and says

We consider the gift of water that sustains, refreshes and cleanses all life.

President returns to their place

Take this knife as a sign of your status.
Receive it and remember
that the world around you
will be your guide.

The Candidate stands

Keep watch over the worlds,
Encourage the faithful,
restore the lost,
build up the community;
so that you may be amongst those who are truly known as a Master Ranger.

Those who wish to celebrate may do so now

May I take this part for my bio? And I just have to translate the entire text, I need a german version...

We stood on the bridge and no-one could pass.

Thanks for all the compliments... still hoping that people can further improve it though!

I must admit I'm sorely tempted to re-hold the ceremony so I can use it!

As for a German version, I'd love to see it. I speaka bit of German myself but not enough to do this I don't think.... let's do it Eszra- go for it!

I think I'll be rehashing a chunk of my bio, that or creating a bio page online for my Ranger.
