The current version is available:

The Outdoorsman

(It should read "Jan 18, 2004" at the top of the page, if not please Refresh)

Understandably, from the debate raging in the modular camp threads, there is no singleapproach that all us will ever unanimiously agree on.

Given that, I choose to follow the initial path the developers had laid out for the profession, one of a creature-centric skill set, and expandit into a wilderness-centric vision.

Following the developer's path allows for a greater possibility of the proposals acceptance, and expanding the vision enables a greater flexibility, and appeal that the community was seeking.

This week, I will deliver the proposal to the developers. After that... It is their move.

I may not agree with all you stances, but I do appreciate where you are coming from. Each of you wants to make this the best profession possible. As do I.

Thank you all for participating.

Good Hunting.

Thank you NRass for all your hard work. I hope you can actually get to play the game sometime soon. I'm glad we're getting this proposal out. It's important for all of us and having a definitive document and less "I think x is better than y" will do us all good. Well, less posts of those types from ME ought to everyone a LOT of good lol. While I have been one of the people who may have seemed the most neurotic and obsessed with getting it done my way, in the end, I just want to get it done. Big wOOt to the proposal being done and the ball being out of our hands.

Peace, Love, and Rangering.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Nice work. Run with it NRaas. I can't wait to see what the devs do with this when they get a hold of it. any idea when we may hear some feedback on it? I realize that anything that gets implemented won't be for a few months, but do you expect to get a overall warm or overall cold response from the devs any time soon after this plan is submitted?

NRass I wish you all the best in presenting the Outdoorsman treatise to the Devs. The treatise was well written in that it presented the ingame effects of requested items in an organized fashion but told a story of an outdoorsman so that the items have a roleplaying conceptual feel to them.

Keep up the good work NRass!

I like the ideas, and I plan on going Ranger/Rifleman regardless of what changesthey make to ranger, but if they update ranger, I hope its similar to your concept.

"any idea when we may hear some feedback on it?"

I expect the generic, "we'll look into it" response to begin with.

After that, I suspect one of the following:

  • Either they will come back and tell me directly they have accepted/refused the change in direction.

  • Or we will simply see the changes start to appear in coming publishes.

I'm a Test Center person, so I'll keep everyone up-to-date on the publishes that we get. Well, at least the ones that directly affect the Rangers. The problem is that recently there have been a lot of "stealth" publishes where we don't get notes on the updates and we're left to guess what they were updating. Ususally the information trickles down so we get some idea of what happened, but it can take a day or two.

However if anything big happens, like I'm playing one day and all of a sudden i decide to make a HTFB and see that it has some optional slots for modules, I'll be sure to let everyone know about it. Oh, and I'll try to include any known bugs that pop up while we're testing it. That way everyone can try to avoid them when possible and /bug them if neccessary.

I am hoping that they give us a little heads up, like they've done recently, but there have huge publishes when we get no info and skill sets are modified and we have to find them ourselves, until a QA person pops on, answers a few questions and pops off.

/sigh Ok I had just written a nice paragraph and the boards stuck it in hyperspace when I hit submit.

The gist of it was: Thanks for all the hard work and keeping it unbiased and going with the majority. Thanks for putting it all together for them and us. I also only agree with about 95% of it, but that's more then enough to cast my vote on it and stand behind it. Is there any chance we can get from the devs(once they get time to look it over and discuss)either a "no we don't like any of it" or a "yea cool, we like some/all of it and will be looking further into how to implement it"? Especially with their new communication process and wanting to keep the players more in the loop, with new forums etc. and all the hard we you and us have put into this, we deserve at least that.

Thanks again.

"either a "no we don't like any of it" or a "yea cool, we like some/all of it and will be looking further into how to implement it"?"

I will make a note to add such a suggestion in the email when I send in the proposal tonight.

Very nice proposal, props on all the hard work Nraas. I did notice one small error tho, in the /combatCamo section it says that a ranger will only be able to apply it to themself, but it then talks about people wanting to have rangers apply it to them.
Hope this helps and you don't see me as a nit-picking asshat.

Could you give me the exact location of this discreptancy? I can't seem to locate it.

Update: Ok, I found it... Will definitely fix that up before sending it off. Good catch.
