Thread: An idea, what do you think?
Field Base Camp and up - receive a ticket machine and ticket collector droid. From the camp terminal, the Ranger has the option to 'activate beacon', which calls a shuttle (takes 2 - 3 minutes for the shuttle to get there, allowing the server to update the world map with the becaon name and location). The shuttle lands, and for a set period of time (say12 minutes, to allow for the shuttle times at major shuttle ports) people can buy tickets and travel to/from the ranger camp, after which the shuttle leaves and the camp disbands. If the ranger leaves the camp, the camp disbands. It could cost a fee to activate the beacon, or require extra resources to create a beacon camp.
This would allow, particularly on dangerous planets, for people that generally log on a little bit later or leave a little bit earlier to join their friends out in the wilds, without having to risk super dangerous runs to/from. The camps would be expensive/difficult enough to make that they wouldn't be a 'throw one down' every 5 minutes type of deal...perhaps requiring factory components and/or components made by other advanced professions, such as architects and droid engineers.
I know that something like this would certainly prove valuable when going hunting on places like lok or dantooine.
Yea/Nay? Thoughts?
Interesting idea, esp if put at survival 2 or master level. Would have to be pretty hard to make and require difficult ingredients, but that would be a very nice thing to have.
Why not see if something like that is possible.
i'm diggety down with that.
could be a source of credits as well (bone/hide market is being sunk).

I like this idea . I think the devs will like it too because it adds to community ejoyment or whatever it is they think people are going to band together to achieve .
I think this feeds a few needs all in one shot . In Beta the only thing that stunk about being in a huge group of 20 people was when it was time to go back . Everyone was done fighting , everyone wanted to log but logging in the middle of the map on Endor is basically suicide so we all trudge back to town . BORRRRRRING .
Now , we can call in a shuttle . Awesome and we are definitely the class to get this ability , we go , scout out the area , secure it and prep it for dustoff . We could also provide a new service to people that have harvesters in remote locations on dangerous worlds .... transport them right next to the harvesters , make sure the MOBs are under control , he grabs his stuff hops back in the shuttle hits the Starport and he's off .
I'm liking this idea more and more as I think it through .
I think the community has been unanimously FOR at this point , no ?
I just don't think this will mesh well with the "In Development" stuff coming down the pike. If we are going to see mounts and vehicles... this skill would be a huge nerf to them.
I think simply having a High Tech Field Base appear on the Planetary Map (similar to a vendor) is the only viable portion of this suggestion.
Depending on how Vehicles work however, you could argue that when they DO implement mounts and vehicles, that high tech bases are where they recharge/park which gives us another benefit for basically having a place where they can go to... which in essence fits the description of what a Field Base should be.

Wouldn't this cause some major "spammage"? I like the idea of teleporting BACK toa Star or Shuttleport....I don't like the idea of going TO a Ranger camp. That would involve people selecting that camp...access rights to who can GO to that camp, etc. etc. There are complications that come along with it.
Still, it's all good in the hood for Ranger being the teleport/evac class. All we need now is an Enchanter.
hmm, yes...
Shipping home, Good.
Showing HT Field base on planetary map.. Good
But do we really whant the camp the show up in the shuttle terminal?
There must be a way to controll who is let onboard the shuttle to the camp.
And regarding cost the most obvious to me is that first the ranger needs a component in his base. and then the cost of the shuttle will be charged just like a ordinary shuttle.
Meening the person taking the flight pays for his ticket, not the most realistic way to do it but the easiest way.
It should offcourse be more expensive then a normal fligtht.. it is afterall a "booked" fligth...
