Thread: Stop your whining, all of you

This is a general flame....if the shoe fits, go buy another one, you got a pair.

1. Quit whining about Maskscent/conceal breaking in combat.

No kidding they will break, who in their right mind would think they wouldn't. Now they do, so adjust accordingly. You want invisible, try EQ. The Devs are attempting to make our camo act at least somewhat realistically. That's right people, you shoot at one beast and the entire herd will notice you.

2. No more crying about - All the beasts are social.

No, not all. And check and see where your 'misses' are hitting. I paid attention last nite, some hit the lair, making the other beasts mad, leading to a mass attack on me. Check your "cone of fire" and what's behind the target. You miss your target and you may be hitting another beast or the lair. This is great, imho, you actually have to pay attention to position now.

3. Cease with the sniveling - More animals are now social, I can't solo anymore, this sucks.

I can still solo some, BECAUSE I HAVE CHANGED MY TACTICS. The old stand in one spot, maskscented, while killing an entire herd, ain't gonna work now. Adapt and overcome. Maybe you can't solo them now.... so sad, get a partner. No, I am not some great green hunter... but I can think and realize when stuff is getting me killed it is time to change, not whine.

I think we made out like fat rats on this patch. Stuff that was broke is now fixed. We can actually make camo kits without picking freaking berries. What was getting pretty **edit** boring has been made challenging again.

To those of you who want to cry, whine, and snivel... Ranger sucks... well you are right, turn in your camo, get your scissors, Hairdressing is waiting for you. Or perhaps the exciting world of - Chef.

For the rest of us, keep the ideas flowing, kill and harvest your tushes off, find new and exciting things to do, and most importantly, have fun.

TY for your time and attention, please excuse the screaming if it did not apply to you. This rant is now over, Move along, nothing to see here.

Agreed.....although I don't think I've seen too much complaining here.

#1. While it was nice to keep maskscent/conceal during combat, realistically it made no sense. We'll have to be a lot more careful now, not the end of the world.

#2. Is rather annoying, but again logically it makes sense. And my favorite destroy mission was uneffected, so I still have nice big, slow, non aggro and non social stuff to kill. And don't forget there are sneaky ways to pull only one of 2 social mobs at a time that have been posted on this board on the past.

#3. See #2 above.

This is a MMORPG. Things change all the time and we adapt. Everyone thought it was the end of the world when supression fire was changed to a 30 sec timer....now we've learned to use it occasionally at the right moment instead of spamming it. Life goes on.

Sorry JBMat, but that is pretty much just bull.

1. If I carefully apply the scent of the planets creatures on me... hide myself with flora and hide.. then fire a weapon.. does this magically diseappear? Yea.. the creature should notice me.. but the camo should stay.. Camo is even more useless now than before as making a camo kit is not worth it at all as it'll go away waaay too often.

2. The game engine does not register where your "misses" are hitting.. that's nothing but eye candy. Mobs are either social or they are not.. and since the patch a lot more of them are.

I agree with most of what you suggest, however I daresay it could have been said a little more tactfully...

The one thing that I would disagree with is #1. Yes, it is realistic for your target creature and other creatures in the herd/area to notice you once you make yourself visible with an attack. However, shooting a gun won't make grease paint on your face magically disappear, or make your camo clothes fly off. Now, this obviously isn't really a problem with mask scent, since it costs nothing to re-apply. And I would say that it isn't *much* of a problem with camo kits, since the resource costs for them are pretty durn low, especially without the flora requirement. However, I would much prefer it if camo kits cost significantly more to make, had fewer charges, and lasted for 1-2 *hours* without general breaking. Basically, camo should break against individuals or groups, rather than just breaking completely.

Perhaps this would be a little harder to implement, and I should just deal with the current system. Which, as I said, isn't really a problem since camo kits have such low resource costs and so many charges. But, I *would* like it better the other way. If that makes me a whiner, then so be it.

JB,

I agree with 90% of what you say.

My only concern is that once again we have a major change (the new social critters) that wasn't in the patch notes anywhere, which sends N'Raas and I scurrying around to figure out if this is a bug, a new legit change, and then figure out how to explain it to all of you.

This should be the last patch where ANYTHING gets by us, as the new Community guy that starts Monday will be required to manage the patch notes, and hopefully that will keep anything from falling through the cracks.

But in any event,a bit of complaining about that is justified, as we weren't warned about it. I don't mind changes that can be detrimental (at least to the way the game is played now) so long as they are announced in advance.

On another, slightly similiar note, I think the devs are reaching some critical points when it comes to bug fixes and drastically changing the way the game is played. We are now on month 4 of the game. The corpse bug has still not been fixed. We've all gotten so used to it not being there, that its going to wreak havoc when they reimplement it (although I've not heard a thing about this in months). There are just some bugs that players LIKE and so long as they aren't a major exploit, I really think the Devs should just leave well enough alone. I think that's why we're seeing so many complaints about the mask scent fix.

Hey Delta as far as the corpse bug goes, it's almost a certainty that it will never be re-implemented the way it was originally designed. Holo has already stated in one of his post somewhere that they are looking at new ways to penalize death rather than so much insurance and so on... And it's because you're 100% correct, it would cause major havoc and anguish among much of the player base that they have to do it right when they implement something again.

And Jmatt, I'm suprised.. you've been one of the reasonable voices on these boards when changes are made or required. Perhaps some people can't present their opinions as well as others, but if a good percentage of players are unhappy with the changes, let them voice their opinions on it in the only forum that will ever get any attention from those who matter. If it's never going to change, the complaints will subside.

I suggest you learn how the game works before you go ranting at people about how they should play, Buckethead.

I am new to these posts, but have been a master for several weeks.

From a realism perspective, I completely disagree with conceal breaking on the first shot. Rangers are supposed to be masters of the outdoors. Anyone who thinks that an enemy (creature or otherwise) will detect a concealed sniper on the first shot needs to do some real world reading about Marine Corps Sniper School -- anyone detected after a first shot fails. Trained observers sit in bleachers with binoslooking for these guys. So the thought that a bantha would see a master ranger on the first round down range is ludicrous to me.

Bottom line -- there should be some formula that determines when it breaks. Distance, posture, movement, and number of shots should all factor in. As it is today, I see absolutely no benefit in conceal.

I dont like the way conceal is dropping now....I'm not alone either. On thursday it broke when you got hit by an animal..Ok I can live with that, it kinda makes sense in a way. But now as soon as you hit attack it drops, this means if you are on an advanced planet and another groups mission spawns near you, you get jumped and killed. This happened 6 times to meyesterday on Dath, and it got old real fast. I would like them to put it back the way it was the first day after the patch...where it drops when you take damage...the way it was explained numerious times to work by the corespondents while it was on TC. Is that too much to ask?

Hi Quas,

2. Please read the pistoleer forum, misses are hitting stuff now, no kidding... not just me seeing it either. And it also applies to rifles and carbines, been tested and verified by several people, not just Rangers.

1. Your lack of real world camo experience is showing. Even just moving under observation while wearing aghillie suit can give you away, never mind firing a rifle, So it is only common sense that your camo goes away when you engage with a weapon. Never mind standing in the midst of a herd playing flung poo hand to gland.

Camo works, on animals ... Grand wrix, big time red aggro, walked right by and scoped out the lair for eggs... and on NPCs... twoIMPs let me (big time TEF in force, had just killed an Imp patrol not 1 minute prior) and other overt Rebel walk right up, no reaction. Tell me camo is broken? I don't think so.

Wanna see some whining? Read the Dancer forum. Okay, I'm not helping matters here. But I somewhat agree with you and then disagree about the comment on this forum. A few people whine, but mostly people were confused and it was a big change that affects the profession. So everyone wanted to know what was going on. You post. That's how it works. The Ranger forum has been very civil and educating compared to the other forums I read regularly.

Ignore the posts if they bother you (yeah I listen to my own advice obviously).

I like that conceal/maskscent breaks more often. I don't know if I think it's realistic that camo conceal breaks because you're supposed to imagine your character all covered in camo and just because you attack one thing, it doesn't destroy your camo. However, maskscent... yeah. It was how it was and it makes the game more interesting. Even if it's a bug.

My only main concern with this patch is the Camo/Maskscent break in Combat change. The day after patch Camo broke when I was hit, I can understand and live with this. Patch day+2, I initiate combat and my Camo drops immediately. This does not seem right. I have always gone prone before entering the attack range on my targets. I crawl until I get a good to-hit number and then fire away.

My main example is with Bantha, I can down a Bull Bantha in 3 good shots with my rifle, a normal Bantha 2 shots, Feral Bantha usually one shot. I should be able to hit the Feral Bantha and not get agroed by the rest as it was only one shot, and no one could determine my location. On a normal Bantha, I should get both shots in without him knowing where I was, due to first shot will alert him to a danger, and then the second shot would give him a direction if not a exact location of his danger, but he is dead on second shot so he no longer cares.

Pre-patch on a Bull Bantha I could get all 3 good shots in without him knowing where I was.Of course, by attacking any Bantha with a Matriarch meant instant agro by the Matriarch, even when the object of my shot didn't know where I was. I had no problem with that as the Matriarch is the ever vigilant protector of the herd.

Camo is useless now unless you are grouped with a non-scout, in that case you are helping him and your group.

I checked what NRaas listed on the forums regarding Camo breaking in combat and he listed it as when getting attacked it broke not when initializing an attack. This is a different issue than was made known. If it is a bug then they now know about it. If it is not a bug then yes we will have to change our habits, but I would like to know which is to be, as Wayfaring is a bit less enticing to me now, as I got all four boxes when I heard Camo was coming into the game.

Here is the State of Profession from Oct 8th, Nraas has a comment on conceal on page two, 4th comment on the page. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=20009&view=by_date_ascending&page=2

---------------- FromThread listed, Yellow is statement, white is NRaas's comment ------

"When I approach them concealed, I have no idea if they see me or not. I go prone and start taking pot shots to try and pull them a couple at a time. They all make a beeline for me, did mindshots and kill me quickly. Conceal did not break."

/conceal won't break until you take damage...

This is the way it worked on Thursday, but not Friday. I am just getting to the forums now, so I will see if anything new has arrived, but this is my first reply today.
