Well, it is not what you want to hear, but I sat in camps for hours and practiced making more camps. Also, invite friends to sit and chat with you. Don't make it all about the grind, you can make it a social event, too. Having folks around really helps fight the boredom.

Well the camping part seems to cramp everyone's style, unless they are seeking to keep this profession.

But there are some great tips to camping in these forum's. But I will give you might thoughts on camping and how I did it, with minimal disgust of the skill tree.

1. Camp where you know the people are, cities, hunting planets or hunting grounds. Unique visitors is what counts, not your buddy running in and out of the camp.

2. Do something while camping. Crafting, tumbling, or being somewhat injured. If the camp is not being "used", it takes much longer.

3. Try to be AFK as little as possible while doing it. Yes it does get lonely, but you might miss out on some great opportunites, if you are not there. Like making contacts for weapons, or people just wanting your services or goods.

hehe, i made it all about the grind ask some of your guildies if they could spare some materials for you, sit in a quiet place, get a good crafting macro, and go to work. its a little on the boring side but it got me up the survival skill tree in a jiffy

sry, i forgot to add something..... if you do do the grind (that sounds awkward) then also, sit in a camp and every now and then disband it and make another one

Yanno, reading your post, I am guessing Ranger is not really for you.

We sit a lot in "gay" camps, we are the kings of nerf (nothing works) and worse, we can spell and use freaking punctuation.

Try BH, you probably already have scout maxed, and you can max weapons really quickly, and look at all the neat specials and weapons they have.

You already have a headstart. Go for it.

I agree with JBMat, maybe you should try another profession if you don't like this one. Ranger, it seems to me, is an extension of scout, so you'd be doing the same things once you get to Ranger as you would in scout. The items and things you can get and make are agreeably better and cooler, but to get them, you have to use the generally same tactics as you did in Scout to even get the skills

JBMat has it about right, you sound like you would fit more in with the bounty hunter crowd--not to mention you are already off on a great start for it...

Camps are not gay.

Making lots of the best camp that you can make is one way of getting survival exp.

these are great tips and i love being a ranger. but i would love to know how to macro crafting camps. is it possible and how? with a 5 month old baby sometimes all i can do in game is "grind" frontiering xp. while holding her or feeding, changing playing with her...whatever...it gets boring setting up camps. can i get some info on macros for crafting camps. thanks!

If I recall, there is a way to make a crafting macro, but you have to manually put the resources in, so you have to be at the keyboard for it.

Camping is indeed gay, why dont you set up macro for camping? It's really easy, all it involves is putting a camp in every one of your toolbar slots, then scripting it to change camps every five minutes... I plan on mastering ranger after commando, it is so despicably easy to do...

Firstly...

I fail to see how camping and "orientation" have anything to do with each other, however...with that aside

I agree with JBMat, Rangering does not seem to fit your style. I love my broken camps/ traps/ and the mysterious way harvests are calculated. Rangering take patience and a style of play not suited to the powergamer. Yes, it can be done...but the benefits of being a ranger are much more intangible than anything else.

Try Bounty Hunter, your scout skills will be a means to an end there...
