Thread: Is Camping In Front of Bridges Just Outside of Cities Considered an Exploit?

I don't consider it an exploit (except when a dumbass places a tent right at the entrace of the bridge so you can't get in it, which happened once ot me i was pissed) it's just more annoying to me than anything, if it's off to the side i don't care usually i stop by just to help with xp to be nice, but usually if i see one at a bridge i swim it accross instead of use the bridge (especially now with speeders).

If I'm right they don't get xp faster just by having players run through them anymore. This was patched months ago back whenyou could gain mega xp by having faction pets patrol in and out of your camp. Back in the good'ol days you couldalso gain xp fromplayers healing one another and crafting while in your camp but none of this seems to make a difference anymore. Also, all camps max out in points so the longer he sits there like a log letting people run in and out of his camps the less he makes in a given time period.

For example if I drop a field base and sit in there by myself for 10 minutes I gain 1104 xp points. If I have a person sit in the camp with me for 10 minutes I gain 1124 xp points. If I have 20 people stay in my camp for 5 - 7 minutes I gain around 1100 xp points. So really the fool who sits his camps in known paths for 30 - 50 minutes trying to get xp from those who run into then out of the camp are just loosing potential xp.

Right now the best way to grind out camping is by making creates of camps and setting up a macro to use a camp from the action tool bar then disband the camp based upon what level it is. Multi-person camps take 18 minutes where field bases take on 9 - 10 to gain optimal xp. Disband the camp after that time period and macro on to the next tool bar slot. Also if you're not up on wanting to macro camps just craft camps while sitting and waiting for your time to hit the optimal limit. Thismakes getting xp even faster as you gain xp for every camp you craft.

The only problem that I have with people camping at the end of the bridge, is when they set up there camp in a way that makes you get stuck on the tent. Setup to where as people run through your camp is just creative gameplay. but making people get stuck as they are running over the bridge is just rude.

just my 2 cents

I'm kinda with MythInc.....technically, I don't think it's an exploit. I usually just place nearby to the side anyway, but I find those people who do complain are the types who just froth at the mouth at the idea that they are somehow being manipulated...never mind the fact that it affects them in no way whatsoever. If they'd just continue on their way they'd be helping folks out (your xp you get, small as it is) without having to lift a finger. Those folks are talking just to hear their head roar.

It sucks that there are no roads in the game to camp along and pick up the occasional passer by for a quick supper, some wound healing, and a little conversation.

I actually did find a dirt road on Dantooine, and followed it for a while. It was huge, going all the way accross the planet, and forking off in a few places I was unable to explore. There were some cool looking arches over one part, and mud bridges whenever it crossed a river. It was pretty neat. It didn't really go anywhere, though, it just meandered around the surface of half the planet.

Man people sure get upset about stuff easily. If it was an exploit, and people have done this for a long while now, it would have been long ago. SOE jumps the fastest on exploits and people who use them.

IMO it is not an exploit. I know the bridge you are likely talking about, and it isa little close to the city for setting up camp. But if you can set one up, then its not our fault of that, and if you are smart enough to put it in close enough to the bridge to get the "visitors" then thats just being a smart player.

It should also be nice that anyone who does set up a camp right on a bridge.. be sure that you can get on and off bridge... otherwise move away from it a bit more.

One thing I find nice is when people set up a camp near the entrance to the krayt graveyard. It can be quite helpful to those hunting around there and probably leads to a nice number of visitors. This sort of idea is not an exploit (at least not something SOE will care about although it probably falls under the real definition of an exploit). And I personally will go out of my way to stop through someone's camp--I did frontiering the slow way and I know how long it can take. You also get to meet some nice people.

No I would not consider this an exploit, however it can be very annoying when someone places it so that you cannot get across the bridge there, which has happened once to me, but it is just annoying not an exploit. If you leave room than that is even better, I even go and sit in peoples camp and go afk for a while, give them some xp and I take a break.

There are degrees of "exploitation" in the game.

Technically, anytime you take advantage of a bug in the game to gain an unfair advantage, you are exploiting. People have been banned for things like credit duping and multi-slicing and all sorts of things in PvP. In almost all the cases that I can think of, it has been someone exploiting a bug that allows them to do something they shouldn't be able to do to gain an unfair advantage and in addition, it almost always has negative consequences for someone else.

In this case, I would not consider it an exploit, because...

1. There is no bug. The camp deployment mechanism is not broken. You can't put it down where the devs didn't want you to, like in cities, near lairs, etc. You can only put it at the end of a bridge or under a bridge because nobody thought about not letting you do so. You're "exploiting" someone else's lack of vision maybe, but certainly not "exploiting" a bug.

2. There are no real negative consequences for anyone else. So what if I walk over a bridge you have your camp under? How does that hurt me?

3. You aren't gaining any "advantage" over me or any other player by doing this. At worst you are guilty of a lack of believable roleplaying.. but then again.. camping under a bridge seems kind of appropriate when considering an outdoorsman visiting the city. Maybe you don't like closed in spaces and are seeking extra shelter from the elements.... after all, you can't go in the tents and the ones with covers don't even stop the rain.

The ultimate would be to try and pitch a camp under a bridge and fish inside your camp at the same time.

I would say just don't impede anyone else's travel by blocking their path, or annoying folks in any other real way and you should be fine.

Not an exploit, but nor will I visit a camp of anyone that close to a town.

I will visit anyone's camp out in the weeds, often several times. And craft just so they get more xp. Close to town, nope, avoid em like the plague. Prolly some BH wannabe "pwer camping".

I fail to see the point of putting a camp up in the path of a bridge other than to hope passers-by stop to rest.

You don't get any extra xp for having a person pass through your camp. They have to stay there for a period of time for there to be any benefit.

Where exactly is the exploit?

I'm a Master Ranger and no longer have any need of Wilderness Survival xp. I was camping (in my spiffy High Tech Feild base) just outside of Theed next to (not directly in front of) a large bridge to heal some heavy woundage. There were three other camps there as well. Another player approached and shouted, "You know that's an exploit!" I asked him to elaborate and he confirmed that he meant about the WS xp. So...Is this an exploit? IMO it doesn't seem so.

Just to be clear...I earned all my Ranger/Scout xp by camping solo (usually)since launch in June. It never occurred to me to camp a bridge. The reason I did it now was because I saw the other camps there, I had wounds and a camp that I wanted to get rid of.

Just wondering...
