Thread: I want to live in an HTFB

I hate my stupid house with all the stupid doors opening and closing all the time. And Corellian houses are just plain ugly.

I am a RANGER for goodness sake.. I wish I could put something like an HTFB down, using one of my available lots and live in the huts/tents like everyone else uses their houses.

Of course I know I will never get one. *sigh*

Ohh, so you can place a hunting cabin on Endor. But I still don't understand why. My guess is that the reasons for disallowing housing are going to hold up against this idea. And as more planets are opened up, this is going to become more and more pointless. Obviously.

"But I still don't understand why."

SeveralRangers like theidea of having a home to return to while hunting a planet...A base of operations from which to store goods between hunts.

Since camps are not permanent dwellings (as they neither require maintenance nor a lot), the concept of a Hunting Cabin was devised.

Later on, the idea of the Stash was devised, and it eventually superseded the Cabin (making its way into the Outdoorsman).

The cabin ideais in the SotP, simply because several Rangers are still attached to the proposal.

You should be able to have one camp/cabin per planet. (asuming you have enough lots) .. and it should degrade over time.. so you have to add more material to it to keep it in shape... add bone, or hide.. or whatever it needs.

Obviously outside of city limits.

better yet, go hack down a tree! (or harvest out of one...)

hehe, i think the ewok's would freak out tho, but it'd be funny. give me a chance to lose all this darn maurader negative faction.

ya, bust out a little ranger hatched, and gather me some wood for a little hunting lean-to.

toss a few wooly hides in there, maybe some torton bones for good measure and i'd have a darn cozy place to live.

and because im a rangers w/ no real way to gather income (well, until i teamed up w/ local 5342 antarian ranger union...even then, i'd rather not depend on credits and depend on my harvests).

goodness, im all over the place. and i think i mentioned this before... nobody noticed tho... i also mentioned an idea for fishing to heal BF, or at least mind wounds. (its relaxing! its refreshing!)

oh well, HTFB would be really cool to live in too.

if only i had the SP to get master ranger

Hunting Cabins: I'm against 'em. If they were to, for some ungodly reason, implement them, I'd place one on Endor, but I still don't like the idea.

Stash: I'm definitely for it. Way, way for it.

Fishing healing BF: I'm also for this. It makes sense, and I like to fish anyhow.

I think hunting cabins are an awesome idea. It makes sense for rangers to be able to hack it living on a dangerous wilderness planet, unlike the other professions. It could be available only to master rangers. There aren't many master rangers, and not all of them would choose these dwellings (especially since there would be no cities to put them in), so there wouldn't be very many of them... and they could be designed in such a way that they wouldn't break up the "wilderness" atmosphere of the adventure planets.

Now, you might say.. "But it's not fair, that way rangers could be based off of the adventure planet, getting all the good missions and not having to pay the 5K+ round-trip cost to go to the planet each time." To which I would respond, "Perhaps that's a good way to give rangers something worth spending a third of their skill points on." We're supposed to be masters of the wilderness and expert hunters - well, give us something to back that up. I think this would definately count. It's probably not enough to make the whole profession worthwhile, but it's a start. After all, master doctors can place medcenters, and master dancer/musicians can place cantinas. They may have to be in cities, but they also have other advantages (healing, BF) that ranger cabins wouldn't have.

If you can give me an actual reason they should not be implemented, I'm all ears. If it's stepping on architects' toes that you're worried about, make them buildable only by architects, and placeable by master rangers... like merchant tents, or the aforementioned medcenters and cantinas.

Hehe... I didn't even care about the idea when it was first proposed. Now I'm really excited about it.

"Hunting Cabins: I'm against 'em."

I don't mean to flame, really, but can I ask why you're against them? Also, if NRaas is reading this, I'd like to know why the idea was thrown out. I want to bring it back.To add to my comments from the previous post, people ask, "What's the point? What game function does it serve?" to this I merely have to point at many of the "Why are we rangers" posts on this forum. There are TWO reasons we are rangers: either we are hologrinders, in which case we should have no say in how the profession develops... or we love the profession because we love the idea of the profession, the idea of being a master of the wilderness, or an expert hunter (or both). The hunting cabin idea may not add a whole lot ofmechanical functionality (though there certainly is a little bit there) to the profession, but it definately adds flavor and immersion to the profession, which I think is what most of us rangers are seeking.

"Stash: I'm definitely for it. Way, way for it. "

Yeah, I think the stash is a neat idea. I think the hunting/wilderness cabin would be MUCH cooler, but the stash is not a bad idea either.

"Fishing healing BF: I'm also for this."

I don't remember who originally came up with this, but I've always thought it's a terrible idea. There's two (count them, TWO) elite professions out there that have the primary purpose of healing BF. There's ONE reason why BF was put in the game: toencourage players (even those who somehow manage to get all the other things they need without interacting with others) to interact with the other players in the game. Not only would fishing BF hedge in on the business/territory of the dancers and musicians (and the little entertainers), but it doesn't even require any skill points!! I think adding this functionality to fishing would not only be horribly destructive to the entertaining professions, but also to the "multiplayer-ness" of the game. BF regeneration is one of the few things that brings players together on a regular basis in this game.

PS. Sorry for the double-post, but I was really excited with my first post, and posted it before I'd completed all my thoughts... and completely read all the other posts.

What is the idea of the hunting cabin? The SotP post lists details about it, but that makes it sound like a ranger-built house, only you can't just up and move it. Based on that, there's no reason to have it in the game and plenty of reasons to not have it.

If we're asking for different housing options, I want the Lars Homestead option, where I have a little hut aboveground as the entrance, and a pit in the ground next to it, with the house in the ground surounding the pit area. That would be boss.

"What is the idea of the hunting cabin?"

The primary element of the Hunting Cabin proposal was the ability to set up the building on any planet, including the Adventure ones that disallow housing.

Of course, back in the day when the idea was initially proposed, there were fewer planets that allowed houses. After PlayerCities opened up more of the planets to housing, therewas less need for the request.

2/3 actually.

1/3 for Scout, 1/3 for Ranger.

And I think the idea of having a Hunting Cabin, even I were only limited to having 1 up at a time, not being able to re-deed it, and having to have someone else craft the deed, would be freaking awesome.

First off.. Disagreeing with me, or asking for my reasons is not flaming. ::smiles:: Secondly.. I go to Endor a lot. It's my favorite planet. I don't mind seeing the occasional harvester or cluster of harvesters.. but part of the reason I go to Endor is to get away from all semblance of civilization. I hate running across Corellia and having to dodge through large clusters of houses, or even seeing the occasional large house or guild-hall cutting off part of the horizon. Endor is almost entirely unspoiled wilderness..

Actually, when it comes down to it, I wouldn't mind this quite so much given the following conditions:

~The place is unobtrusive: The mostly underground idea someone suggested, like the Lars homestead would be fine. I don't want something I'm going to have to go out of my way to get around, or something that's going to break up the pristine wilderness of my favorite planet.

~It has a severely limited storage capacity: Hunting lodges are not meant to be highly decorated homes; they're meant to be places of relative comfort and permanence in the wilderness, with perhaps a few decorations to commemorate hunts. My game reason for this is that I don't want to hit "speed bumps" while running cross-country, or even worse, when enjoying a quiet zoom across Endor, relying on the low lag and fast reflexes to slalom between trees.

~One per Ranger. Period. There may not be a whole lot of Rangers, but if every Ranger gets to drop a cabin or two on each adventure planet, it will eventually be too much.

~If you are in combat at all, you cannot enter the house, as per TEF rules. Otherwise, they'll be used to hunt heavy spawns with relative safety, which is not the point.

~No Vendors! This is the thing which really caused a knee-jerk negative reaction. I don't want to run into a damned shop in the middle of Endor. If I want to buy something, I'd better run my tail back to the Outpost, and hope it's available on the bazaar.

You have a good point.. But if it was sufficiently limited/slow, it wouldn't become a big deal. People still go to the medical center to heal wounds more often than they'll sit in a camp, as has been demonstrated by many anecdotes here. Why? Because it's so much faster. This should be a small fringe benefit of fishing to reward those who actually do it anyway, and provide a small amount of encouragement for people to use this mostly disregarded game functionality.
