Thread: To Droid or not to droid?

Been wondering about this for a little while and I thought I would ask the public's opinion on them. Do they give a % increase based on YOUR harvesting level? Are they simply whatever creature harvesting level that they're listed as? Is it really worth it to have to manage them and slow you down for the few extra units per harvest they give you? Is it at all fair that master rangers (except trando's) can be out harvested at master by droids?

The droid's harvesting mod is based on your harvesting mod. They give a relatively small bonus to you harvesting and can be stacked with Veghash. Many of us, but certainly not all, find them to be more of a chore than they are worth, myself included.

I tend to agree, I really don't agree with the 15 second wait to call a harvesting droid. If that's the case it would be nice if there was a tree us rangers could take to decrease call time. The 15 second wait combined with the 2 second delays between each command to have the droid respond makes me not pleased.

I like them but not for their bonus you can just forget about that at master ranger. I like them because they follow you around, make funny sounds and are "starwarsy" .

I agree on the starwarsy piece. Its one of the reasons i like both my 102 harvest droid and my trapper droid. Plus as a pistoleer i can stay mounted and fire while my other pets do the work killing it. Then send in the droid to harvest. So i use mine all the time.

Droids can be stacked with Veghash? I need to try that out again. I thought it didn't affect it?

I love using my droid even if it's for one reason only. Example: You're trying to harvest tanc mites on Yavin, but aggressive Klikniks or Arachnes have spawned their lair right next to it. Send in the droid while you stay 64m back in relative safety.

Works great when hunting aggressive mobs too, as you don't have to kill them all and destroy the lair before running in and harvesting.

As for starwarsy.. I've made a macro to animate my droid harvesting activity:

/tellpet harvest;
/pointat target;
/shout Fetch me some meat, R3!

Of course, I might be shouting for it to "fetch meat" when it's set to harvest hides, but that's beside the point. I used to have my /shout command say
"R3: 01101000011000010111001001110110011001010111001101110100" but I don't think anyone got the joke.

To be honest, I have never tried stacking Veghash with a droid. That is what the community reported. You certainly want to check that out yourself.

Yo, shout out to binary!!!

Anyway, droids are fun, they will give you a slight increase in your harvests and are great on the immersion factor. Cons: they require batteries, repair kits, macros and maybe even key bindings and they run away constantly!

In all I think they're worth it, but mostly for the star wars feeling they add.

There are 10 types of people in this world... those who know binary and those who don't.

heh, I got it. Binary, nice touch.
f = 66 = 0110 0110
e = 65 = 0110 0101
t = 74 = 0111 0100
c = 63 = 0110 0011
h = 68 = 0110 1000
(space) = 20 = 0010 0000
m = 6D = 0110 1101
e = 65 = 0110 0111
a = 61 = 0110 0001
t = 74 = 0111 0100

Combined that's
01100110011001010111010001100011011010000010000001101101011001110110000101110100

Quite a difference in calculations that's for sure. I checked about the first half, and you got the 6 and the 7 right, but I checked half your string, and only one letter was the same as mine. I'm not sure if you guessed or if there is just a miscalculation. I double checked many of my calculations and I believe I got em all correct. Anyways, anyone who's curious. The above numbers, (Letter) = (Hex value) = (Binary Value). You can check all the ascii codes here:

In the time it takes for a droid to move to the kill and harvest, i can harvest 3 or more.

the time involved makes them not worth it, in my opinion.

I'm thinking of getting a droid just for the "Star Warsiness" of it. It doesn't sound like the harvesting droid is for me and I don't tank with either a pet or droid.

So how do rangers use other droids? Are the trapping droids worthwhile or do they suffer the same problems as the harvestors? Should I just get one for storage of my ranger gear and foods? Your opinions are appreciated. Thanks!
