Even tracking couldn't save us this time.

Yeah, got as far as the first page, then decided to apply my GIGO filter.

So what. There are limitations in all professions. "Useless is as useless does". I'm a ranger. It's what I do. I COULD go take another combat prof, but I don't PvP, so, to me , that would be a useless profession.

I earn enough doing what I do to fuel my brandy/spice addiction, buy tacky trash for my houses and support my local ubese jacket industry single handed.

Truth be told, you could take ANY profession, label it useless, drop it from the game even, and pretty much nobody would notice after a week or two. Well, apart from the people who actually enjoyed playing x profession and had learned to deal with the deficiencies.

Right, am off to help some greenhorns find some BIG prey (mountain worrts mostly, lol, but its good weapons xp if you've just got off the shuttle). I'll sit watch them,pop off a shot or two to make sure nobody gets dead but they get enough injuries to feel the thrill.

Yeah, useless.

Lets go walk through the squill cave without armour or a gun and we'll see who is useless. ROFL


*** And the rangers who pop up in the forum trashing their own profession, uhm why are they still rangers if it's so useless? Am all for discussion of he deficiencies of the profession with a view to getting the dev's to EVENTUALLY give us that much needed love, but in here.

Freak people out, be a ranger DESPITE the misgivings, and make them wonder what the mysterious attraction is. I mean, there's that free branch unlock in the FS skill tree rumour... and the new uber gun (personally I love getting asked about the new camp that Master Rangers get that's got the laser turret on....)

(Sorry, just the Dark side is sooo seductive...)

I'll just have to remember this when someone trying to complete the Hero quest comes and pleads with me to help them find the various spawns they need or the next Jedi trying to find a peko-peko albatross, or the poor people who don't have enough meat.

Most useless profession, hmm? Seems like you have some need of me after all.

A very good defense, Phe'nix. IMHO, that thread wins my vote for Most Useless Thread. "Useless" is such a subjective term, anyway. Yeah, sure. Rangers are useless; until you need large quantities of meat or hide. So many of the votes where in the vein of "It doesn't help me in combat, it's useless" mindset; completely ignoring the social aspects of the game.

BTW, many mentioned that a Master Scout with a droid and food can harvest as much as a Master Ranger. What about a Master Ranger with a droid and food? Is there a cap on harvesting?

Eh, I still won't be dropping Master Ranger anytime soon. It's not useless if I still enjoy it.

Besides, Rangers seem to be pretty popular these days.. or at least our tracking abilities. Two ranger trainers have even appeared in our city!! (coincidentally, most of it's citizens are jedi)

Goto tat through you master ranger and Newbie helper tag up. See how useless everyone thinks we are when the want to find a boar or farmer. We are useless in the fact that most want all PVP. We are the masters of PVE. I trully believe this.

I have to observe that a person beginning a thread, poll, conversation with "what is the most useless profession" is basically trying to get a rise out of people, disclaimers to the contrary, and is starting the group off in a negative or polarized mindset. Of course, this attracts posters who have some need to disparage others, to assure themselves of their god-given superiority. I don't understand the attraction of various professions that I don't play, but it's interesting that people who do can put so much time and effort into some little imaginary task that for a while they live and breathe it. Of course, that's what we all do, according to our various temperaments. I mean, how many people contentedly enjoying the game have the need to thumb their noses at others (or themselves!) just because? So we have 5 pages of malcontent posts that I didn't have the stamina to read, and I didn't choose Ranger to satisy even one of them. I really enjoy Ranger for a lot of subjective, personally satistying reasons, which is basically why every single player in the game plays, whatever their profession.
