The thing about droids, especially medical droids, is that they make camps almost useless. I'll be picking on medical droids because they have the biggest impact on creating camps.
The thing about medical droids is that they allow a player to heal another character's wounds anywhere. The main advantage that medical droids have above camps is that they can be used to heal players when in cities (or near structures) and outside of medical centers. This mobility is what kills us.
Instead of allowing a player to heal wounds wherever he/she wants to with a medical droid, the droid should enhance the user's ability to heal wounds. This would require medics to either be in a medical center or in a camp in order to heal wounds.
The advantagethat a medical droid would then give would be to just make the medic more adept at healing wounds. In a medical center he/she would be even better at healing; in a campsite, it could get to the point where healing at a camp site would be the same as healing in a medical center.
Reducing the mobilitiy of the droids while increacing their effectiveness would benefit both Rangers and Medics, as well as Droid Engineers since an increase in demand for droids might occur. These same principle could also apply to Entertainers healing as well.
--------------------------
As far as healing Battle Fatigue is conerned, I thought of three possibilities:
1. have camps act exactly as canteenas, where battle fatigue can heal slowly without an Entertainer and quickly with one.
2. have a passive ranger ability where the ranger's battle fatigue heals when in a camp (but other professions would have to go to a Canteena to have their battle fatigue healed)
3. have a droid module that allows Entertainers to heal battle fatigue in the field.
-------------------------------
The main problem with buffs and camping si that people with buffs don't want to wait around and let ther 15k credits or whatever they paid rot away as they wait for someone to heal. For this I have two suggestions:
1. have the counter only decreace when the player is engaged in combat, since the game can tell when a player is in or out of combat.
2. have the counter stop when the player is in a camp.
That's all I can think of for now as to how to fix the camping issues with the rest of the game.

Good idea, but i think a better solution, one that won't piss-off Medics and Doctors quite as much, would be to lower the cap on Medical Droid effectiveness to around 65%-70%. That way, while you could use Med Droids in a pinch if you are out in the wilderness, Camps and Medcenters would always be a more attractive option.
This would, hopefully, have the effect of getting the Doctors and Medics back into the Hospitals and off the Starport steps.

In addition, for your information, HTFB, the highest Ranger camp IS equal to a med center. Droids should be capped below this while outside a camp or med center, but should achieve their maximum potential only ina HTFB or a med center.

I figured that if the medical droids were to enhance the abilities of the medical center or camp, that it might counteract the fact that the droids cannot be used in the wild on their own.
Another idea that I though of was that a droids effectiveness is halved when not in a camp or a med center; that way the medics can still use medicines like they currently are, but will still have an inscentive to be in a camp or a med center.

It's not really my place to comment on droids, butI am going to antway
. I am not pushing for any changes to droids or the medical professions; I am just offering an opinion.
I think a good solution would be to make it so droids offer a % over what the mod is of the facility you are in. They can't be used in the wild, and therefore, you have people going back into the med centers and camps.
In other words, if you have a +10 droid and you are in a med center or HTFB, you would get the +110 (or if you are in a FB you could get a +105 with the droid..if the mod in the FB is +95)that you do now. You are just forced (god forbid) tobe in a facility to use it. If you weren't in a facility, you would have some base mod (+50?) that the droid would build on.
Edited for clarity.

kinda sorta off topic...
but if we get what we want, ie: ranger camps not disbanding during combat, then fighting in a camp during a buff-pause might be an exploit.
just something to think about.

Yup...I pointed that out in a previous thread. It appears that slowed timers would be preferable to paused timers...but, who knows?

here's a possible solution in the distant future:
the buff timer would be stopped only in the presence of a bio-amplifier module.
here's something else,
What about squad leaders having the ability to slow the buff timer inherently in their skill sets, that almost seems reasonable, to be able to keep the group fighting longer. At master squad leader, the buff timer goes on a 1:2 second delay, allowing a 3hr buff to be a 6 hr. buff.

As a former Master Doctor who yesterday started dropping it to become a Ranger I would offer that you have to look at it not only from the perspective of other professions (in this case the Doctor) but what also makes sense. You can't simply state that Doctors shouldn't be able to heal wherever they like. Not only would this really crimp the style of a profession that leaves little room for anything else (have you SEEN how many points it takes to become a Master Doc, hehe) but it makes little sense. What sort of Doctor in the real world can only heal people in a specific environment. People have been using herbs and medicines anywhere since time immemorial and we're supposedly living in a somewhat advanced society in SWG. I do agree, however, that buffing people should be done whilst in the Med Centre, a Camp OR your own Guild's PA Hall. I too detest seeing the Doctors all over the place at Starports so I would support the idea of these locations offering up stronger enhancements.

Thanks for the input Lord-Michlo
I have always thought that:
(on a 1 to 5 scale... 5 being the best)
Doc+Droid+Player Hospital=5
Doc+Droid+Med center= 4
Doc+Droid+Camp=3
Doc+Droid+City=2
Doc+Droid+Field=1
Thats my simplistic heirarchy of buffing...

Holy Blue Text Batman! Sorry, had to fix it.
And yes, we know how many points it takes, same as Ranger. ![]()
Imagine, if you will, that only 2 things are usefull in your profession and a Doctor 0030 is really the same as a master.
I always detest nerfage, much rather have weak profs fixed instead.

I didn't mean to imply that Doc's shouldn't get to heal anywhere and I will edit my previous post to reflect it.
If you want go with practical examples, let's look at today's medical practice. If one needs attention while not at a hospital (Med Center) whom do they send to the scene? An EMT/Paramedic (dare I say a Comvat Medic?) not a Doctor. Where does a Doctor perform at his best? In a controlled facility....a hospital (Med Center). Optimal healing will always occur in the controlled environment and NOT in the field...That is what I was suggesting
.

Hmm, upon reading some of these posts, I think that I might not know exactly what medical droids actually do. Could anyone sum up what they do so that I can make sure that what I think medical droids do are the same things that they actually do?
I'd prefer to havea more accurate view of what these things do in order to have a more enlightened opinion that could be more useful to this discussion and the community. Thanks.
