Thread: Suggestions for combat professions to combine with ranger?
ty
any other suggestions
also, if i went the tka route, what is the best way to get that unarmed xp in the brawler tree?
I was master rifle which i thought would be perfect pertner for ranger but on a whim i opened a holo which said swordsmen
Wooooooooooooooot that holo as i'm now way better at killing mobs than i ever was with rifle, power hammer some buffs and a set of decent comp i'm doin peko albatrosses easily solo, nightsisters, rancor things i'd of never tried with a rifle.
did a giant dune kimo with a tka friend but i reckon i could take it solo with a good mind body buff and some luck ![]()
roll on the melee ranger for my looting skills are strong![]()
I am going to say TKM all the way.
Vubo was out on Dantooine yesterday for about 6 hours (two rounds of being buffed) and only has Ranger 0030 at the moment (I was at Ranger 0010 when the day started). In those 6 hours as a TKM buffed, I was able to harvest roughly 33K of Herbivore Meat by killing Pikets whenever I ran into them and grabbing two Piket Missions every time I got back to City Hall.
TKM is a quick kill and if you are buffed you can spam Unarmed Hit 3 and take out a Piket in about 10 seconds. Not to mention that TKM is just a very cool looking profession to have. I am licking my chops for when I will reach my final goal of Teras Kasi Master / Master Ranger for him.
The other thing that gets over looked a lot with TKM is their ability to heal their own wounds, and cure poison/disease without having to use woundpacks or curepacks. The only thing I need to be armed with is Novice Medic to toss a few heals if ever needed (rarely) and a couple crates of BE Vasarian Brandy and BE Canape (can't remember full name) to keep my mind nice and buffed up.

Well it also depends on your playstyle/preference for combat, and some on your species. For ranged combat I say go with master rifleman. It will not seem so good until you get up into rifleman and get master, but it with master ranger rock. /conceal and /concealshot are the bomb, and can take out many things easily. But it takes patience to be a good rifleman/ranger. Lots of belly crawling, waiting, and taking down stuff slowly sometimes. Not to mention you want a high Mind HAM stats, to shoot your specials. With those two you got a few points to pick up entertainer, or medic to do a bit of self healing.
If you like close up, action filled combat then you want more like a melee prof. I suggest TKM. I know several TKM master ranger and they also rock. TKM can pretty much solo anything you will be needing to hunt for resources, with out armor or buffs. They have awesome defences, good damage output, and with meditate powerboost, can also go with out buffs or armor. The unarmed in brawlwer is slow and hard, but once you hit TK novice its a big difference. And I hear its hella fun.
Have not known any commando master rangers. commando can put out a lot of damage in PvE, but it's noisey and shaky. You don't hit very well until high up in commando either. I hear the defences arent so great, and for hunting animals for resources, doesn't sound as good. A lot of their weapons are AOE which could cause problem with agros. just my 2 creds
I personally am Pistoleer master, with master ranger. I enjoy it, its ranged, but I get to be close up and run around keep on the move, circling and throwing traps. Pistoleer currently isnt that powerful as far as pure damage. But I enjoy it and have fun with it.

Thanks!
As it stand right now, I think I want a profession that will allow me to solo anything, including enraged rancors if that is possible. Is it, and which professions can do that?
i think i hae narrowed my list down to rifleman, tka, swordsman and commando
i im interested in rifleman but i worry that alot of creatures will rush me, which makes rifleman useless then....can the conceal skills keep them from doing this most of the time (90%)?
I'm a TKM, and while there are things that are problematic due to kinetic resists, nothing slows you down more than a nasty case of disease. That's really the main reason I went with Teras Kasi; master ranger doesn't really leave you a tremendous amount of points to play with, and Teras Kasi gives you the ability to heal your wounds, poison, disease, and bleeding. Most poison and bleeding pass quickly enough, but disease is something else entirely. The ability to boost your health, action, and mind with powerboost is also helpful, though not as much as it once was. I generally only powerboost when I'm going after lower-to-midrange creatures like war grondas or quenkers. If I'm fighting anything bigger, I gets buffs.
If you like ranged, then I'll defer to my betters in that area. I've never really enjoyed the ranged professions (although I did really like conceal shot when I tested out rifleman in the old days), but I can certainly see advantages when it comes to keeping your distance. For me, the ability to heal myself and stay out in the boonies for days on end hunting whatever avian I'm after is worth its weight in gold, or credits as the case may be.
One thing to keep in mind regarding Teras Kasi andresistances- with buffs and armor, everything is reduced to simply the time it takes to defeat; with Teras Kasi, it may take you longer to whittle down an 80% kinetic resist creature, but you'll still whittle it down. The advantage you'll have as a ranger, however, is thatyou'll be able to pick your own targets based on what you can take down quickly. Don't want to deal with the kinetic of a fierce piket protector? Track down some seething bols instead. You'll even have the ability to get rid of that pesky disease after the fight, too.
I am a new Master Ranger about two weeks. I made master Riflemen a few days ago.
I spent time on Dathomir over the weekend for the first time hunting with my guild then I was Riflemen 4343. I found I could hold my own hunting with my guildmates. Rancor weren't so tough that way.
A day later I Mastered Riflemen. I go back to Dathomir to under go my own persoanl trial by fire. I am solo'ing Nighsisters that are vulnerable to Rifle fire.
I find a herde of Enraged Rancors. I open fire using concelshot for now. Luck or unlucky for me a bleed starts. I think oh joy. Now I find out what I am made of.
Two enraged Rancors charge. I decided now is not the time to stand my ground and fight this out. I switch over to flushing shot2 and conduct a withdrawl while engaging the 2 Enraged Rancors. 1 drops dead, I continue to withdrawl I concentrate on the 2nd Rancor. It drops.
I breath a sigh of relief I have killed my first 2 Rancors for the day. I harvest over 500 hide from one Rancor I am estatic. I slowly walked over to the other Rancor with a swagger in my steps I harvest over 400 meat from it.
When I went home that day I had over 6K worth of hides.
To paraphrase and old Army saying.Yes Iam a happy camper now.
Choose the style of playyou prefer and don't worry so much about what does more damage to what. Then have fun.
