Thread: Question for Rifleman/Rangers out there

Currently I'm Rifle 4/4/2/3, Ranger 4/3/4/4

I went up Ranged Support in the Marksman tree as well. What's the general opinion with regards to the benefits of Ranged Support IV? Waste of points or a must have?

I currently travel exclusively with a Master Doctor/Master Carbineer, Swordsman/TKM, and Master Dancer/Pistoleer. Thoughts and opinions?

Personally, when you are reaching the levels you are reaching, I think ranged support is very definitely optional... particularly if you need the sp to advance elsewhere.

I think the general consensus is that it is a waste of time once you are beyaond a certain point in the rifles tree. The points can be much more useful in other skills.

I found Suppresion Fire from Ranged Support very useful, until I had to drop it. It stops critters in their tracks and is quicker than lobbing a p-dart....

I don't use the specials from the Ranged Support line, but I do like the Ranged Defense mods. I have been considering dropping the Ranged Support for Novice Medic (again) as I feel healing would be more worth it to me.

That's why I dropped Ranged Support too.

I like Ranged Support (and used to find it very useful as a Rifleman) but you might not need it with a Carbineer around (they have an AoE knockdown if I remember correctly). Although you shouldn't need Novice Medic with a Doctor around either. And the tank is likely to manage just fine for keeping stuff off you. I'm tempted to recommend you try Novice Artisan so that your group can have someone to survey stuff for them if needed. All the other options are covered by the group.

if you go master ranger/master rifleman you won'tneed a group, i kept ranged support 4 for the defense and just for the hell of it, i do fine without healing myself, when i do get hit i have regened the ham that i have lost in the time it takes to move on to the next wild spawn, not wearing armor really helps with getting your ham back up

its all in knowing what you can take down alone, for me if its got a 10k-12k ham i can take it on my own, its all about tactics and for me when its over 10k ham it involves alot of running around, i may look silly running around all crazy , but hey it works for me

oh and haveing a very high max T21 really helps, some rifleman care more about the speed on the rifle, not me i want that high damage, cause at master i shoot plenty fast enough and plus i use our +25 to-hit bonus by useing just regular attack, most all my shots are over 1k damage, that is when i can make out the numbers

Going with the concensus here. I'm hanging on to the marksman's Ranged Support till I get a bit further up in the Rifleman tree, then it's going ta-ta so I can heal myself infield again.

I agree with Vorpaks, I dropped most of Ranged Support (still have RS 1) in favour of Novice Medic.

I hunt alone and need to be able to heel, but most times I don't need it. I don't miss Suppression fire, the speed and ranged defence mods you get as Master Rifleman more than make up for it IMHO.

personally, i dont think the RS line is needed. I get the mods with my spec ops field agent pack and ranger. I also picked up the ranged def line of FS, so I'm set there. Id use the extra sp to get CH. It's nice to have an animal when hunting. Faster than walking, and its a companion.

I don't use any of the ranged support ... I never felt they helped. What works for me is having First Aid IV instead ( I like the faster heal rate and being able to use first aid for bleed wounds) because I frequently have friends who like to hunt with me - I also have Survey III. I only have a few boxes in the rifle tree, but I chose the ones I have that seemed to work best for me. I am saving the rest of my points for FS to enhance the skills that I like best.

It's funny- I just asked this same question to another rifleman/ranger that I met a couple days ago. He gave up the marksman ranged support, and his completed template is Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/Novice Medic 0/0/0/1. I'm a Master Ranger/Rifleman 4/4/2/3, but instead of Medic, I've got Entertainer, though I was rather annoyed to find that you can't heal bf in a camp.
