Guys and gals, we had a thread pre-CU that listed the pros and cons of Ranger Templates. I think we are far enough into the CU that we can start a tread on the Post CU Ranger + Combat profession analysis. Let's use this thread as a place to compile these template discussions and direct people to (nicely) when the ask about templates .

Master Ranger/Master Carbineer

Carbineer has more defenses then riflemen. Also has a snare shot as well as a knockdown. Also for when those creatures charge in groups it features some Area attacks to include suppression fire and spray shot I believe. Suppression shot is supposed to slow movement (it does currently but for about 1/2 a second)

I was master riflemen/master ranger But I found that my rifle abilities were bugged and I didnt have any fun at 65m sniping a target. I wanted to get up close and personal and while 50meters isn't as close as pistols I find that combat is more dynamic with carbineer then rifles. and I've always liked the carbineer specials more.

That's great, but what are the pros and cons of that template ?

Good call. It will still take a good few weeks before the dust settles and the changes are final though. Concussion shot still needs addressing, non-jedi healing effectiveness needs addressing and lots of other specials need looking at but atleast we can start preliminary stuff.

I chose Master Ranger/Master Pistoleer.
Partly because of the of the officer image of using pistols but also because of the defences and specials.

70 speed, 145 accuracy, 140 melee def, 145 range def.

Stopping shot works well for getting out of range from a mob, when two or more are attacking me. And alternating between range shot and placed shot allows me to shoot fast and with little to no action use.

Two P-dart's takes care of my long time rooting, and a single one of my snaring.

I have not been out in the field much, and mostly on Naboo (we have had a good Naboo bristly hide), but I did manage to collect 100k over 4 days of running mission a few hours a day solo, with no armour and no buffs (not even food buffs).

Firearms strike seem to work almost all the time, and the mobs that more damage while they are down. If followed up by a quick shot and a and a body shot it can be used to do a lot of damage to anything that gets to close.

On the shorter-range issue, 35m seems to me more then enough. Most mobs will try to close to point blank range anyway, and then the defences will come in handy.

I will have to make a few crates of glow wire traps and of sharp bone spurs, so se how that affect my tactical options, but so far I like the style of a ranger pistoleer.

I've been master pistolieer the last few days. I really like firearm strike (I just like pistol whipping things). However, I'm finding that even the "Advanced" version of this doesn't work on level 80+ mobs.

Master Ranger/Rifleman

Rifleman allows you to hit things at a frther distance obviously. I usually do a leg shot then hit with head shot, then usually a P-dart to slow them down again then back to headshots. Obviously if they ever get the bugs worked out of cover/snipershot This combo will be something else.

Downfall is not a lot of defense and of course the close range accuracy. I have some above average rifles so overall I can generally hunt unarmored and do just fine. There are some exceptions of course (mainly things that spit) but overall I enjoy the combo.

Oh and not to mention the DC15 is awesome looking when your in Tailored camo clothes

Oh sry, lol. Well, master combat prowess helps alot. When I get off work Ill post exactly all the mods for it. MBH is a great PvE template in itself. Many very effective specials. I was only ranger tracking/MBH/and the rest in carbineer but I really havent saw much of a difference since I dropped carbineer. Camo kits are great, trapping just works wonders in PvE, and the camps just add a great place to talk and plan our next move and heal up.

I pull one at a time. I start off with rooted, then critical, then the special that slows them down, then critical, rinse and repeat. They never even tough me. MBH goes very well with master ranger Sry for the lack of detail, its my second day back with the new CU.

Curious as to what those who have more Ranger knowledge than I...I'm most likely heading towards a Master Swordsman/Master Ranger mix -- what has been your experience with Ranger + Melee? And any hints or suggestions for me?

You will get tore up with melee man. the key is staying out of attack range, keep them at bay. My good friend left the game because melee professions (except TKM/Doc) sux now.

Master Ranger, Master Bounty Hunter, Squad Leader

Melee Defense: 145

Ranged Defense: 170

Ranged Speed: 45

Steady Aim Bonus: 10

With MBH as my combat template, i can use a variety of weapons, such as the scatter pistol, the FWG5 (which translated to over 820 raw dmg, and a personal dps of over 500pts)

I can assist in group hunts of Jedi, i even took down a lowly padawan the other night solo... I had my master ranger tag on, and the poor kid was so confused as to how a ranger could whoop him so bad.

The template i have allows me to participate in some pvp, some jedi hunting, and of course being a ranger. I am also usually the group leader, and the /sys message and steady aim bonus + volley fire really helps cutting through the big mobs.

In a perfect world, MRanger/ MBH/ SL would be the complete hunter package. Combined with traps, I have yet to really struggle in PvCritter... while PvNPC still is a tough fight sometimes, but when i use my TN, I have the advantage.

having a lot of fun with it
