Dant wooly hide has very good stats at the moment on Bria. Today I was running tests on what the most efficient mobs to harvest from were. It came down to two:
1. Thunes;
2. Huurton stalkers.
When trying to harvest the hostile thune mothers though, I simply couldnt. My hotkey did nothing, and the option did not present itself on the radial dial. All other thunes were harvestable as normal.
This meant that the huurtons were the better choice - more hides overall, less decay and damage to items.
However, I wasnt aware that some mobs are unharvestable. Is it really the case? Or, is this a bug? Or, is there something that stops you from harvesting if you dont have high level scout skills? I have only Novice scout xx1x.
Thanks for the help.

did you get a system message at all?
also, i have found that sometimes different levels of the same species, will have different resources, so maybe that has something to do with it..........

You cannot harvest if you are in combat, nor if you are blinded (think stunned and dizzied prevents harvesting as well). I do not know if that could have been a factor for you.
Secondly, harvesting can get buged if you try to /harvest a NPC.
Did you have looting right to the Thune mother? If someone or something else dealt more damage to the creature you might not have had looting rights.
Finally there are creatures that look like animals but are treated as npc's. such as the Gorax. So it might be posible that others fall in to that category as well.

If you are blind you can't harvest but you get a system message for that. I've never hunted them so I can't say. I loath Dant.
Hmm guess I'll have to go try it.

No actually hes right. Hostile Thune Mothers have been unharvestable for many many months. I used to bug it once a month and it never got fixed so I stopped. We have a good dant herbivore spawn going on right now on Bloodfin and i saw it again tonight.
There is also one of the handadaks thats unharvestable. But this is a long long long standing bug that needs to be fixed.

Another who's noted the impossibility of harvesting Hostile Thune Mothers here...

I can also testify that Hostile thune mothers are not harvestable. I have tried harvesting all three different resources during different spawns over the course of the last month or so... no luck.

Ok, thanks for the replies peoples. Glad it wasnt just me that was bugged.
Although they do state attacks such as blind I made sure I was free before trying to harvest, not in combat, not NPCs, so it must be true.
Oh well, basically that means Huurton Stalkers are most economical and efficient to harvest in solo-group, or Huurton Howlers solo.
Thanks again,
Ato

Hunting dant wooly, I find that wild lairs are by far the best way to get a large stack fast. Huurtons spawn left, right and centre and the wild lairs give you way more creatures. Plus, the occasional thune is a nice bonus too. I don't find missions worth it at all on Dant, unless the spawns seem borked.

I agree. It's funny cause right now on ShadowFire, the Dant wild meat (huurtons) is in a good shift. Racked up 17.4k pretty quick and just made 435k cash. Wild spawns are the only way to go! One time i swore i got 20 critters out of one!

Nope I got the same problem a month ago or so on Corbantis. It was quite frustrating. Sent in a bug report but never got a response. So, I assumed this was intentional.
