Currently I'm a Master doc and nearly master BE but I'm thinking of dropping BE and going ranger. Would this make a good combo for groupign rangers etc

best prof to go with master ranger is rifleman.

You won't have enough skill points to be a master doctor and a master ranger BTW

Right now I'm headed towards Master Ranger and Master Marksman, with points left over for other things.

I'm not really much of a soloer, though I like to be viable in it. That's why I have my little probot and am getting a new version of a BE crafted pet though. I don't need to solo Big Game, but to get the occasional organics from friends, it can be fun to solo fora bit.

I do think though that down the road I may go Ranger/Rifleman or Ranger/Carbineer. Both seem viable in PvE but I'm not sure at all about PvP. It's not something I've done much since June anyway, but it's one of those interesting things I'd like to try. Rifleman, which seems to primarily damage Mind at ungodly ranges, seems to work really well with Ranger because of the archetype (camo'd, long-range, quiet, fast in nature, etc.).

But Carbineer is sort of a 'surprise'. What? This Ranger just oozed out of invisibility in the woods and took out an entire camp in one massive scatter shot!

I only recently decided to go full Marksman, as I've been a Novice Carbineer since forever. I've never had a problem. Well-rounded weapons Carbines are, with good short and medium range abilities (plus, prone, mask-scented and at 64m range, I can generally take out a mob before it gets close enough for a trap anyway).

No matter which way you go though, weapon and armor quality matter alot. Just being a Rifleman is ok. But a Rifleman with a great weapon makes or breaks the fun

Why not Rifleman? Think about the typical Ranger. He's a hunter. He goes out and hunts big game, goes fishing, milks beasts, runs around the forests nekked. (well I try to but the game won't let me take my underpants off) What is the weapon of choice of most hunters? A RIFLE!!! I'm going rifle myself, but that's jsut because after being a BH I'm soooo sick of pistols and carbines I don't ever wanna use another one again.

As far as other combinations, the only things I have seen out there are the Ranger/Riflemen and the Ranger/Creature Handler.

I'm currently in the process of getting master ranger and fencer, but that's because that would work the best with the story I've developed for my character. There is no "best" profession to go with ranger. The best advice anyone can give you is play what you like. Just don't expect to be uber.

I just read something in the Solo Ranger thread. Spider6 decided to pick up Lightning Cannon III from Bounty Hunter and is having a good amount of luck with it. I'm actually considering that now. Never had an uber weapon before

The only problem with that is skill points. Unless you give up all the rest of the BH tree you won't have enough points to go far in Ranger. You can do one tree in Ranger as a Master BH. So you could do them all if you lost the other BH trees. But interesting idea.

...Plus remember, it takes 40k Combat XP to make BH. That's a LOT of killing.

They mentioned Master Ranger with Novice Medic and the LLC line in BH. I assume that's just LLC III since that's all that is affordable in BH.

So, what you said, in reverse

I'm a Master Ranger Master Pistoleer with just enough medic left to patch meup in the field...

Not to say that any other combo is wrong, it depends on your game style, but pistoleer has some advantages. Sooner or later, mostly sooner, angry things will be up close where pistols work best. Also at that time things will be hurting you which you want to end fast. With a good gun you can spam your best specials at the speed cap which is a nice way to clear um off.

I started out with a rifle but gave it up, because of the close quarters stuff. The creature to hit bonus that comes with ranger makes up for any loss of accuracy at distance. Mask scent with 2 stacking bleeds (this may get nerfed) is also very effective.

Fan shot, fan shot, fan shot - walk up to a blue con lair spam 4 shots and kill 6 mobs. Less wear on the gun, more to harvest in less time. You can kite and spam, and snare kite with traps. There is a pistol to match almost every resistance, save for cold and electricity. If you want to kill fast and often you have to consider pistols.

Did the LLC ranger combo about 5 months ago, it is good and you can kill stuff however the llc misses and chews up ham a lot when using special. So if you go that route becareful that you dont bite off more than you can chew because you often end up killing yourself.
