How usefull is tracking for hunting down other players? And is it as usefull for hunting down creatures as people think?

Essential. Without tracking, being a ranger would just be scouting. With tracking, we have first shot at every prey.

No you misunderstood me. Im not complaining it was a comment more then anything else. Its just that since they are all new we are facing all the newbie questions. Which is fine its just that you see patterns.

How useful is it? Well awhile back I made a few monkeys, doing the Hermit quest. All I did was sit, wait and use areatrack to help people find what they were looking for. I have made some monkey tracking certain things for the Jedi which was pretty cool. Being as a few of the ones I was helping didn't know what planets some of the creatures were hiding out at. I use it to find trainers in a city for people that ask, finding certain NPC's for missions. The funny thing about areatrack and all its nerfedness
, on TC, and JTL beta, where I am not a Ranger, I find myself typing in /areatrack and just getting the message saying I don't have the ability to use it.
The range on it they say is 500m. I found the boar in the Hermit quest at 620m, and every once in a great while I have hit close to 700m. But that I can count the times on half of my hand over the past year.

I read that thread and it really would have helped if it had answered my question. Im not asking how areatrack works. Im asking for opinions on how effective it is. With the Jedi not online bug being as out of control as it is I was just wondering if areatrack is really an effective mean of tracking other players. And no im not a BH but Ive been planning on rerolling my character and goingMaster Ranger/MCHfor awhile and was just curious about how effective the system is. So all that being said please post you opinions on the matter
EDIT: Im not trying to flame Calcus im just trying to clearify my question

Areatrack is not an effective means for tracking players. You cannot track them if they are indoors and they move too fast on speeders.

It will not Track your jedi like the droid. if you know where they are and are within 500m and they are out in the open and and and and and. Basically. No wont help ya to much with the counter to Jedi Exploit. Use the sp in something else.

But, if you plan to hunt Jedi, you will likely want a BH to pull the mission. It's by far the easiest way to find the Jedi (not to mention that most Jedi are neutral now and so you need the mission to attack them anyway). And, if they have the mission, a droid is much more likely to be useful than /areatrack. The range is way too limited on /areatrack for you to find the target. And, even if you do manage to find them with /areatrack, a speeder or force run will get them away from you easily. You won't be able to keep tracking them if they run (you need to stop to track and that gives them all the time they need to get more than 500m from you and change direction). In my personal opinion, the tracking would only be useful to tell you what else is around the Jedi before you attack (i.e. if they have friends, if they are in the process of fighting, if there is a specific direction you can come from that might cause them to run into a spawn they really don't want to be going towards, etc). If you want to assist in the Jedi problem and don't want to be a BH then you will probably want to take some sort of melee combat skills. It's currently their main weakness.
In summary: yes, you can track a Jedi with areatrack but you will have to get lucky and you won't be able to attack them anyway. The BH droids will find the target easily enough (assuming the Jedi is not bugged in some fashion) and you almost certainly won't want to try finding them only using areatrack. Areatrack might be useful to plan the attack on the Jedi but it is unlikely to be nearly as useful as you might hope.
