Thread: Official Notes from TH (not many, but a start)
- Will camps ever heal BF? Camps healing BF will remove the need for a cantina. Probably won't happen (as was stated by NRaas).
- TH also told me that while we are not slated for any work prior to publish 10 (from JustG's letter), if we want to affect a change we need to go to him with a clear arguement as to why something neweds a change (wich we are doing in the Oye...Harvesting Again thread). If we can convince him of the need (andI warn you, he is hard...he has almost made me cry twice
) he will work on getting the change implemented. We need to be positive that was have covered every aspect of the idea/change thoroughly. - He never said DON'T post on other forums to ge their support. So, I guess we can proceed as planned on the monkey thing. I am glad we got Delta to sign off on it.
- This is unofficial as of right now: The devs really liked the Camp section of the Outdoorsman proposal. They have not said whether they will or won't implement it, but they do imply that it will be a very daunting task (you can decide what that means.
It's not much, but it is much more informative than not getting any feedback. So, we keep trudging ahead, and we will try to bring about change using clear arguements. Thanks for bearing with me guys. Let's kep trying to mke Ranger a better place to live!
"a clear cut argument why it needs change?"
my friends, if they don't already see and agree with our Top 5, we might as well give up, becauseit seems Ranger is less-then-useful not by flaw, but by designer intent!
They say they want everything balanced and everybody useful, but come on, how can they not already see right now why our top 5 consists of changes that are pretty much required to put us back on the map? So far it merely confirms the devs will only put work in for the communities that have a negative impact on their profits if they don't put the work in. They cater to the large groups and the loud groups, and while they try convince everyone it's because of the clear cut arguments, you can bet they wouldn't have gotten anything without the protests and whining. I shudder to realise the only way we'll get anything is by whining too ![]()
I suppose showing our impact might work, I say how about we just don't harvest anything at all for a week, let the devs see the drop in organics in the economy. Let them see that without us, everybody loses. However, with our low numbers, our impact right now dropping away won't make much of an impact at all.
sorry for ranting, but this news really makes me just wanna give up and cancel it all, because you know we're not gonna get anything ever, let alone in the next 2 months to publish 10.
I just came back to hunting (after trying nearly every other facet of the game)and the bottom line is this:
Player cities / server load / dev mischief / something I havent even thought of have COMPLETELY destroyed the whole concept of being a Ranger ( or just a wandering hunter of any kind ) on many planets.
Anybody can grab a couple of missions and hop on their speeder and then run 1000-2000m outside of town , destroy the lairs, and repeat.
Sorry, TH, but THAT AINT HUNTING.
It's grinding, which is NOT fun.
When I started playing this game you could grab some camps and head for the hills, get WAAAY out in the sticks somewhere and find all sorts of sport. You were far from civilization and most of the things about being a Ranger were quite useful ( I know because my bro was one back when I was just a noob CH
...ahhh the good old days).
Now that I'm coming back to hard-core hunting (or trying to), I have quickly realized that (even on the adventure planets, although not as bad) IT'S POINTLESS TO GO MORE THAN 2500 METERS FROM TOWN BECAUSE THERE'S NOT GONNA BE ANYTHING TO INTERACT WITH!
As hard as it is to justify some of sp / rewards ratio's in the Ranger class, I am certainly willing to wait for our turn in the cycle to take a look at that....
BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RANGERS NEED SOME METHOD OF SAYING "HEY, SERVER, I'M WAY OUT HERE IN THE WILD TRYING TO BE ALL 'RANGER-Y' , HOW ABOUT THROWING ME A FRIKKING BONE AND SPAWNING SOMETHING FOR ME TO INTERACT WITH?"
(it's early so I'm not sure if this makes sense, but what I'm trying to say is that I feel this issue is bigger than any other when it comes to having fun as a ranger [ or even a scout/combat class that likes hunting].....the wilderness is on life support and we NEED a way to force spawns in our area ASAP)
Actually, I dont care if this "forced spawning" is given to Rangers, Scouts, or Soccer Moms, but it sure would be a nice perk for Rangers and would definitely give us some clout when LFG ![]()

Define "clear arguement". In my humble opinion, we have been doing this. I think it would help to know what exactly he wants from us. The way I see it, I am not getting paid to throw my ideas into this. I am not going to do his work for him. I'll help, of this there is no doubt, but if our ideas are to count for something and be implemented, I would like to know what exactly he wants from us. Sounds like more busy work to me. Arrgggghhhhhh......must.....remain....positive............*sigh*.......................ok.
I think everyone who has any, ANY, ideas regarding ranger should submit them. The whole harvesting thing is all fine and good, but I want to live up the name Ranger, not caveman. Cavemen hunt and gather meats and hides for the tribe to use to make foods, medicines, clothes, etc. We are not cavemen. It's time the devs realize that. This is Star Wars. Not Everquest. I'll start coming up with some ideas over the weekend. I for one must say that the stealth proposal is something that should be looked into. I liked it and while I think it could use some tweaking (yes, I will offer some actual ideas, but it is really late and I want to sleep), I think it has outstanding merit. Anyway....my two cents.

What difference would this make? A master scout can harvest just as much as us anyway
I agree with the point about the developers relying on us to tell them whats wrong, we pay our monthly fees for them to do that for us. Besides, if they actually bothered to check the forums all the evidence they need is staring them in the face.
Seems to me the only way to do this is to tie up a developer and make him play as a ranger for a few weeks, they might be a bit more ready to do something useful then....

We are flat out being ignored. Period, end of story. TH is stating that nop clear argument for change has been made since August. August, Ranger's. When Holo said we'd be getting "New traps, new camps, and a specific /track command". TH is stating NOTHING is slated for us before Publish 10. Let's count for the Bounty Hunter's and Dev's that may read this (wait...Dev's don't read our posts...nm them) that 3 more Publishes, which is a MINIMUM of 3 more months. Guess what that brings us to? August again. One FULL YEAR, since we were promised these other things. Our Dev in charge of Ranger's, Greenmarine was pulled for Player Cities and Mounts and whatever else and never came back.
We are flat out being ignored. Period, end of story. Thunderheart and Co. KNOWS that camps are useless now. They knew this going into the last Publish that took the remaining usefulness away. The camp portion of the Outdoorsman is "a daunting task". More daunting than fixing Junk Dealers or the almighty Image Designer? Not every portion of the modular camp proposal needs to be implemented and they know this.
Yet for all of this, we have to provideMORE of an argument as to why the one thing we are actually GOOD at should be improved. Harvesting. We harvest almost 33% more than a Master Scout. Wow. So all the BH's can stack combat skills and harvest more than we do because they can do twice as quickly. This is a shame. I'm sorry for the heated tone of this message, but it's just not right. We should not stand for this. Striking will not help. I suppose flaming will not help either. I don't know anymore what will help. I know that one of my best friends in this game has given up all but Frontiering and Trapping and he was the most stalwart of all Ranger's.
I have no desire to play another profession. I want to be a Ranger. I also want it to be complete. Yes give the Squad Leader's some much needed attention. The crybaby uber powergamers in the habit of whipping out big glowing sticks can wait, as can NPC JUNK DEALERS!!! Oy vey. I'm spent.
Calc, I wish you the best of luck and reiterate you are a great coorespondent and we appreciate you leading the charge. This post is in no way a reflection on you or your efforts. Keep up the great work. I would suggest a Ubese Helm when you're beating your head against the wall known as Thunderheart and crew.
Most respectfully,

- On BF healing in camps: Wouldn't it be a good thing to try and pull people from the two or three lag-filled cantinas that actually get used in this game?
- On a "clear argument": Skill pointuse : skill return ratio should be a clear enough argument. Ranger is a useless class for its skill cost, being barely better off than scout.
- Does the dev team's memory go back to last august? Even if they don't want to implement all of the brilliant ideas we have come up with since then, at least implement the stuff that was supposedly already in the works.
