Thread: The end of all things......

The difference is, is that before only cheaters used this method. Cheaters exist, but they are not the majority. Now everyone will want to do it.
If you looted something really really rare, and knew you could get $200.00 for it. You also know you have a car payment coming up that you are short on, or you have the strong feeling your otherboard is about to crap out. You also know that one of your in-game friends has been dying for one of these, has been searching for one, for months. What do you do?
I'd like to think I am a nice person but I would probably still sell it in a heartbeat and hope my friend didn't find out. Even though I know I would do it, I also know it would ruin the game for me. Everything would suddenly have a RL dollar sign attached. Yuck. I'd be less inclined to share, more inclined to power-game. Everyone would charge for everything. AFK macroing is allowed - now wouldn't that be tempting? I just see it creating an iverall bad gaming environment.

Not to go all "socialist" on you, but this is an inevitability in the environment that we play in. We can buy credits for cash on ebay, that's legal.
If i wanted a weapon/ sea whatever, i could buy the creds on ebay, then bid in the trade forum, what this does is cut out the middleman or the broker.
However, this is a market demand that exists, and if there is no law preventing it, then it should be ok.
Doesnt mean that i will sell stuff on ebay as opposed to giving them to buddies, and it doesnt mean that i will powergame. I will still hang out, hunt and joke with my buddies. Giving what i have and accepting what i need.
In the end, while i abhor the activity and wouldnt buy or sell creds or items on ebay, if players want to do it, and it doesnt hurt others, then why should it be prevented?
This is something that is mirrored in business activities all over the world. Its not fair, its probably not right, it favors the rich and stupid, and leaves out the average person.
in essense, its capitalism without a conscience. Thanks for the link and i will post my disagreement with it

I did. Twice.

For the record, I think it's a terrible idea, and SOE only wants a piece of the Ebay pie. This certainly won't be what decides if I continue to play or not. I have very few dealings with people outside my guild, so I don't think this will bother me too much.
I agree. It's just for the "adults" with access to online spending that will benefit from it, and if this is true then they are not very focused on the younger group of players as people believe they are. They said $200 million worldwide? If they are even quoting any sort of figures concerning money, then it is painfully obvious. I think this is a push from their investors, in my honest opinion. I don't pvp, and I can't say that I will ever again when and if this new system goes into effect.
Didn't they hear about the incident in China/Japan? (I can't remember where, but I know the basic story.)
2 People were bidding with real money for a digital weapon in a game, and one person did an underhanded transaction for the item. So, the person who would have obtained it tracked that other person down and stabbed them to death.
I forsee this, and many other incidents, with the new system that they are attempting to implement.

But why stop at the really rare item? That nice stack of hide might get you $5. A few stacks of that could get you enough for Bob's semi rare item.
I'm morbidly curious to see how long it takes before credits become essentially obsolete (except for in game functions like shuttle rides). Why take credits when you can take real money?
The only good thing that might come of this is all the people willing to use services like these might end up grouped on these 'special' servers. I say 'might' as I dont think the 'cheaters' will actually leave to these new servers as then they would lose the advantage they currently have that leads them to 'cheat'
