Well, SOE has gone and pushed the CU forward- bugs and all- and we are all gonna be undergoing quite a biggy patch wise. Unfortunately, my DSL installation was scheduled for the frirst of next month, which would have been fine if they had kept to May 5th release date.So anyways,I was just wondering- anyone got a guess on how long this is gonna take with dialup, or am I the only out there with dialup patch experiance?

I know this isnt about rangers, so to ammend that.... when was the last tiem you shaved a bothan?

It will very much depend on what you already have installed on your machine, ie, JtL, all current patches, etc. and then on the amount of bandwidth that you are able to get off the patch server when you are connected. Also to be considered is the info that's been d'l by BITs over the past week or so.

The TC patches were looking at, for dial up subs, between 12 and 24+hrs. However, TC patches are packaged differently from the ones that go to Live, Live are more compressed and HOPEFULLY will be delivered in 'chunks' of less than 50Mb at a time as, if you are on dial up and get disconnected by your IS after 2hrs of activity, you can't get all of that down in one session.

Having said that, I noticed today that I was getting horrendous ping levels when I was ingame stripping my ships. I tabbed out to the desktop, ran a DOS window and did a netstat query. Rather amusingly that showed that, in addition to my local network, I was connected to SOE for SWG, no surprise there, but also to SEO's Everquest server and that was shcuking data down to my machine at a rate of knots.

I'm guessing that one of the Everquest servers has been pressganged for use as a BITS feed.

Anyhow, interesting times, eh.

Well,I have all patches, I have JTL, and, dont know if this helps, but in addition to my machine's 256 MB RAM I added another 512 stick. Will that do any good? You'll have to excuse me, my relationship with my computer is pretty much teetering on the line of love and hate.

Remember. The client doesn't really do any of the damage calaculations or handle any of the true mechanics of the game's system. All this is server side for security reasons.

You'll be downloading TRE files containing updated graphics, particle effects, music and the like.

I'd expect the total DL to be of decent size. If you want to check follow the guide for a quick TC client setup (something that someone posted in this forum) and then just check the DL times for the current version of TC. That will give you a good sense of what the CU download will looklike when it gets pushed.

Despite being on DSL I just copied the .TRE files from TC over to live and hit 'Full Scan' (It's the same trick as getting TC up and running fast - was posted here a few weeks back - but in reverse). It patched the .EXE and a few .DLLs and it seems to think I'm up to date.

Of course it may break when I run it tomorrow, but I'll face that when I get there. Might be an idea if you've played the CU on one of the test centre machines.

Good tip, yup. But most people on dial up have been forced off TC becuase of the sheer size of the individual .tre files.

Patch_15.tre_delta is / was around 48 to 53Mb and can't be downloaded in one 2hr dial up session. Hopefully the patcher for Live will allow downloads to recommence.

I could use a pay-as-you-go ISP that doens't boot me every 2hrs, but at the rate the files download at, it'd cost me more than a months subs just to get that ONE file.

Oh, and am currently sat on 43hrs remaining. GOOD news is that that's a drop of 13hrs in the past hour and a half.... yeah.... excited am not.
