FWIW there is an active conversation on this subject (and most of the revamp, really) in the Corr forum. From what I have seen so far, though, we won't be getting 2 lines of Scout as our prereq. Time will tell.

I like the idea of carbines. But carbines are my BH's weapon of choice.I like the idea of the new ranger over the old one. The best thing I liked about the old ranger was the camp kits.

but if the dont put carbines as req we would have the abbility to customize our combat profession and not be forced to carbineer

Even with Carbines as a prereq you have the option to configure you toon as a Master Ranger \ Master any other Combat profession. The devs just stated that carbines was a preferred profession.

you are not forced to be a carbineer, you just lose sp if you want to be something else. A commando has to sink sp in unarmed and not gain anything from it, so why not have rangers have a sp sink?

a skill point sink for its own sake is not a good idea, and never has been a good idea.
commandos having the melee tree never made sense to me, and honestly really shouldnt be there unless it has a tangible effect on the profession.
nevertheless, we will use what gives us the most bang per skill point.

If they must put a prereq in marksman, it should be ranged support 4, not carbines.

I am a carbineer, and I do not like a carbineer pre-req. Mostly because I do not wand to se Ranger gated in to one elite profession.
If the fear is that a Ranger/BH will have 66 Sp free instead of 52, to buy added combat powers with, I do not se the problem. Dabbling would be free in carbineer would be free this way, instead of costing 14sp and the have dabbling in either of the 3 elite marksman professions.

Carbines may just be enough to keep Rangers from FOTM status.
This is a very good point, not sure I would be entirely happy being FOTM :/

Somebody recommended this on the main thread:
Ranged Support IV + Trapping IV.
That way, we don't have the same pre-reqs as BH, but we aren't forced into carbines. It's still not as good as Exploration IV + Trapping IV, but it seems like a somewhat better solution.
