Thread: Multi-professions and Rangers
Another in my list of stupid questions? What other professions do y'all hold, besides Master Scout obviously.
I can see where a lot of you are CH. Never appealed to me. Gotta empty the litter box, feed the thing, take it for walks, play with it... I have droids instead.
I know a lot of us have some artisan and medic. Most will have at least one combat weapon up to Spec level, if not two.
I have this tree for the following reasons-
Artisan- Eng 4 (I make some kick butt powerups for weapons) Survey 1, gotta find the stuff
Medic - First Aid 2, Organic Chem 2 (stop the bleeding, make the stims)
Pistoleer - gotta admit, I toyed with BH til I saw it sucked. Bodyshot2 is great tho, DoT to the max
Rifle Spec - long range, sorta unused, tho see below. (I hate thinking)
Inter Ranged Spec - this is my loser category, I may drop it totally to get Rifleman to use T21s, altho I do like my shoot and roll, but I can live without it
Changing nothing, I max out my skill points.
Never was into hand to hand, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chen v. Arnold with the mini gun - case closed. Don't wanna play instruments and God forbid I become a dancer (ever see a dude in composite armor dancing, too funny for words)
So what do you other Rangers have? Any hairdressers out there?
Thoughts, comments, questions, flames?
JB
Proudly able to state he helped kill 5 Dark Jedi Masters with the crazed DRH crew
Master Scout, Master Ranger
Rifle Specialist (top of the marksman rifle branch)
Ranged Weapon Specialist (top of the marksman ranged weapon branch)
Two-Handed Sword Specialist (top of the brawler branch)
Misc Medic Skills.
My idea for the character is a wilderness wookiee that drops camps and heals thoughs in need. The one thing that is getting annoying though is that I'm maxed out on my combat, and although its not a major part of my character it gets boring to me to fight the same things over and over again. So, I've thought about dropping the two-handed sword and some medic skills for Rifleman. But the other night I attacked some creatures on Talus and it ended up they were grouping insect creatures and they charged me. A rifleman without a melee weapon is usless to a charging creature, so I held off pulling out my sword and I just ran. Well they killed me anyways.
Mine is based on a shamanistic type character.
What I am going for...
Master Scout, Master Ranger, Novice Marksman 4/0/0/1, Novice Medic, Novice CH 4/4/2/4, that leaves 7 points to put anywhere
Here's what I am at the moment (totally out of pts)
Master Ranger
Medic: FA III, Diags II, Pharm III, Organics III
Master Marksmanship on the Pistoleer tree
Ranged Support Specialist (no clue why I'm even holding on to this one)
Unless they make experimentation available for rangers/scout, I'm going to have to keep jumping back and forth betwtween medic and artisan (come to think of it, I did make all my schematics with Eng IV and Food/Clothing IV)
I wonder if I'm typical.
Master ranger
Novice medic: First aid 2, Pharm 4 (first aid and I can use special stimpak Ds with a 40 med use, as well as medpak Bs that I buy...always much better than what I can make).
Novice Marksman: Rifle and Ranged Support columns (give me warning shot and suppression fire1).
Novice rifleman: Advanced sniping (mindshot 1/2, headshot3), (working for) special abilities column (rifle speed).
That's it. Most of the rifleman tree seems more geared toward PvP, although startle shot would be useful in sniping situations where my flurry shot failed to give my opponent a kick. Also, for those that say flurry shot isn't any good for animals (I was in this boat), I've tried flurry shot1 with suppression fire1 and it usually will give a good knockdown result on animals and humans alike. Not guaranteed, but I've had it work. Had to drop a lot to get master ranger.
A side note on PvP. Pistoleers and Carbineers areon the losing end of this one. If your goal is PvP, go rifle. Here's my reasoning:
Most everyone out there (not including doctors) has their health and action jacked up so high that successful /healthshot and /actionshot aren't going to give you the quick takedown that you'll need in PvP. Peopleusually keep their mind pools so low that a good /headshot will incap them with one or two shots. With all the faction pets out there right now, the only way to survive it to drop the handler ASAP. If I am wrong in thinking this please let me know.
There's some truth in that. Just yesterday, while I was doing the Princess Leia missions on Corellia, someone was exploiting the walls of the base. Somehow, he managed to lodge himself in the walls and shoot at the rebel soldiers. He couldn't get hit by them since he was in the walls though. I went about my business and twenty minutes later, after he was still doing his thing, I decided to assist the poor rebel soldiers and used my /rescue command on one of them. The dude exploiting immediately became targetable, and I just kept spamming mindshot2 until I found a spot where I could shoot him. He shot me twice and then I hit him. His mind was at 600 or so and I hit him for 1000 hp shot. Needless to say, he was dead and deathblown in seconds.
So, I guess what I'm saying is that with our DOT shots, we're a force to be reckoned with as riflemen. I'm not sure we're the elite of all PvPers, but people know when they see that T21 that someone's going down...especially if that T21 wielder has a Sniper tag on ![]()

Well, my ultimate plan is this:
Master Ranger (obvious)
Master Scout (also obvious)
Sniping and Concealment trees of the Rifleman Profession
Ranged Support Specialist (Suppression fire and warning shot)
Novice Medic (So I can use Stimpack-B's), this may change if non-medics can use Stim-A's, which I'm unsure of at the moment.
Novice Artisan (For survey)
Survey I (to increase my results a bit), If I drop medic, then the extra points will go here.
The plan is to be able to survive in the wilds while solo and to survey for a friend of mine who's a miner/medic. He can make my stims and I can get him waypoints to far-off resources he needs. I'm not a fan of PvP, but the sniping makes for better accuracy and damage, while the concealment makes it easier to solo bigger creatures.
I wanted to be Master Ranger since before the game came out. Regardless if they add or take away from Ranger I will still be aiming for Master Ranger.
These are my current skills. I may take away from surveying as I neeed skill points for carbineer but I do not plan to master the carbineer skill.
Marksman
Carbine IV
Ranged Support IV
Carbineer
Apprentice Carbine Specialist
Master Scout
Ranger
Wayfaring II
Frontiering III
Field Bioscience II
Advanced Trapping III
Artisan
Survey IV
Medic
First Aid III
Organic Chem I
Creature Handler
Taming I
Training I
Empathy I
Well, I am partway up the Ranger tree and just hit Novice Bio Engineer last night. I feel this is a wonderful complement to my Ranger skills. So my skills are as follows right now:
Artisan: Survey 2, Eng 3
Medic: O Chem 4
Marksmen: Pistol Specialist, Range Support 4
Pistoleer: Novice
Scout: Master
Ranger: Wayfaring I, Trapping I
Bio Engineer: Novice
Thadar
Tarquinas Server
My goal is Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler, and Pistoleer 3/0/0/3. I currently have Novice Medic, and I'll drop it if, like mentioned above, Stim A's become available to non-medics. It would be nice to have those 15 points back.

I was a Ranger/Rifleman. Part way up the RIfleman tree I succomed to the trolls that said I should be nerfed and "get a real job". I was getting "owned" by lesser beast and had to kite, kite, kite. I got tired of it so I got the rest of the marksman and brawler (unarmed) on the way to possibly taking Commando if they fix it soon, Novice TKA and as much Rifleman as I can get skill points for. If I do go the Commando route I may have to give up Novice medic, which will hurt. I wanted to try Artisan at first and the exp I got from making traps and Camps was nice. Trouble is I had to give all that up to round out combat, and a Ranger needs the combat profs (good ones, silly me, I THOUGHT Rifleman would be a good one... I see now I SHOULD have been Pistoleer)to be viable.
So, at the moment, I'm still trying to find a good combo. Sense they nerfed my VK I can't see going far there... I maybe starting all over again and get 2-handed weapon exp...
