Thread: Question of the day Why did you go Ranger?

I've been a ranger for the past 5 months though have looked to master it at some point and will more than likely make the push rather soon. There are some down sides and up sides to our class though I don't quite think this is what any of us had in mind when we first signed up for ranger. After reading several postsI ask the question "Why did you go Ranger?"
Back in September I was running with my guild doing some faction farming outside the rebel outhouse on Rori. Yes, we were hunting overts and TEF'd players and as much as that seems bad it was all done in good fun. At one point during our adventure we came across a house that had a faction scanner and a minefield. Our guild had recently placed some minefields and mines around our base and place of operations but nobody had really seen how well they worked. We didn't think the field was loaded so our group ran through without a problem until it was my turn to go through. Needless to say I was the lucky one to find out that mines did work and exceptionally well as this one had incapped and killed me in one shot.
After cloning back at the Rebel outhouse our group leader asks for me to stick around the place and watch for overts that we could hunt. About ten minutes pass by and our group leader gives me the waypoint to their camp so that I could rejoin them and we could continue our runs. As I was leaving the outhouse I had gained some attention (being an Imp in ST armor rebels tend to notice something isn't right) I decide to take the long route and lose those who followed. After several minutes of going in and out of surrounding houses and burst running when I could I finally head off to meet up with my group.
As I walked into the camp I find that we had gained a few other Imps who were out doing the same as our group so we're all standing around and talking. In the mean time our group leader has a few guys off to watch for incoming rebels incase any had followed me. I reassured my group leader that nobody could have followed as I lost all the teals (I was covert at the time) and doubled backed several times.
Just as we were getting ready to pull camp one of our scouts yells out in group chat that a group of rebels were inbound. Right as he said that sure enough 8 rebels come charging into our camp and a fight broke out. After the attacking rebels were sent back to the outhouse my group leader looks over to me and says "Nobody followed you huh?" to which I reassured him that it wasn't possible. He later tells me that one of them was a ranger and tracked us down so there wasn't much I could do to lose him anyway. From that day on I knew I wanted to go ranger.

Back in, what, July? I thought it would be a very useful class. You know, I figured I'd be the master of the wilderness, the most adept class to take out wild animals, and get the most resources from them. I thought my traps would be incredibly useful for hunting. I thought it would be fun to camp out in my super tents with friends. I thought I could hide from people!

Back when I started on Ranger, the traps actually DID help. Or at least I thought they did. Animals didn't die in 10 seconds due to 4 TKAs in your group nailing them while knocked down *sigh*
I'm aching to master the profession again - I just need a reason.

Fate? Kismit? Not smart enough to know any better?
I've played a Ranger, or Ranger style,in every MMO I've ever played, which is a lot if you count all the Pen and Paper RPG's,MUD's,MOO's, MUCK's, and MUSH's I've played.
I was going to actually do something else with SWG. I was gonna be Han Solo. Or as near to it as I could get.
Of course, the Space Expansion isn't even close to being out yet, so I figured I'd be a MasterArtisan/MDE in the meantime. Make so much money I could have my own version of the Millenium Falcon the first day of SE release. I gort bored grinding all the time and not having anything anyone wanted to buy.
Well, I got a couple of Holo's for Christmas, and I was bored. Figured I could chase Holo's until the SE came out. Not really a whole lot of fun, but I honestly wasn't having any, anyway. If we wouldn't have gotten the Holo's I would have quit out of boredom.
Holo voicesaid,"Master Ranger".
But...but...but...I wanted to do somethin different this time!
Ah well, It's Ranger! It's not like I've never been through this before! Pffft! How tough could it be?
3 months later, almost to the day, I mastered Ranger.
Know what? I aint giving it up.
I'm wearing this title I've earned the hard way, and I feel better about a spur of the moment choice than I do about one I was planning for.
Uhhm yea, okay, that's all I gots ta say about thats.

Got it as my second holo. Took me about 4 of weekends and spring break. Enjoyed every min except for frontiering 3 and 4. Will be back after finish holo 3 id.
The funny thing is after getting ranger i realized how helpful it would have been at other times. For example when that solo reb dbed me when doing imp missions. my buddies killed his swoop but he got away and by the time we found him he was walking into ancorhead and our tefs were gone. God i wish i could have tracked players back then.

I watched a buddy play the game and it caught my attention. Since my knowledge of the game was a bit more extensive than the normal newbie, my choice of professions were TKA/Ranger. The idea was we could go to Dantooine and I could track for force sensitive NPC's for holocrons. I also enjoyed Ranger immensly. Once we'd farm 10 or so holos, we'd begin the path. Well, this was before speeders and mounts. So, a few hundred kills down yielded 0 holos for either of us. Then he quit the game due to boredom and I kept in it. Alas the Christmas holos came out. So, since then I did the holo-grind. I kept each profession for a bit since I enjoyed them all. All except for weaponsmith. The box said weaponsmith and I, instead, decided to wait for the quests and enjoy ranger again.
Why ranger? I don't know. I suppose it fits with my character. I picked TKA since everyone (at the time) was ranged. I wanted to be different from the mesh so Ranger/TKA seemed the best option. Now everyone is TKA it seems. Oh well. However, Ranger isn't on anyone's master list unless their holo said so, or they're trying to find their silent. Anyway,I'm back and enjoying the ride.
God I missed tracking.

I knew from the moment I purchase the game I was going to Master Ranger.
I also have a penchant for the Ranger Style. I have played alot of DnD and other RPG's and the Ranger Type classes have always suited me.
I enjoy a challenge, and the Ranger Class in SWG is surely a big challenge. I earned my master title though alot of hard work and I am playing the balancing act now to toy with my remaining points. I will never give up Ranger however unless the class is removed from the game.
It just suits my personality, I am an outsider, a loner, (not to sound too much like I want to be riding a Harley across the country), but I have always been an "alone" type person. If one class permits that, is is Ranger, once it is mastered.
I just like the idea of being the thing no one wants to be. It makes it really spcial in my mind that I am a Ranger, one of the few.

I er...um...uh...*cough*wantedtobeabountyhunter*cough* I was going to pick up the tracking branch of ranger to be ahead of the curve for when we would be able to track jedi as quarry. 2 boxes into BH I decided it just wasn't for me. As I slowly started getting rid of my ranger and marksman skills I stopped to look at master scout and the survival line. I decided there was no way in hell I was going to drop that after having just finished it, so instead, I started my way BACK up the ranger tree. A month or so later, here I am a 4-2-4-4 ranger. Saddest part is I've been a 4244 for 2 or 3 weeks now ;_;. Stupid camps...

A day in beta when walking in theed. I saw a ranger in full camo with a sun hat. I looked up what ranger was and I've been ranger since I joined the game.

I'm kind of an Aragorn wannabe I guess. Evolved from that, I've written some extensive backstory on my character and really enjoyed writing him as a great outdoors kinda guy. I originally wrote him to be a very skilled martial artist as well, but the game only allows one or the other (by very good I do mean several disciplines, every master of martial arts knows more then one type of weapon very well)

I only made it to Master Scout in beta (took me a month of beta to reach M Scout and Unarmed IV, one month after I started retail I was a TKM/M Ranger ) But when the skill trees were announced I got excited over Ranger as well. It proved a bit of a dissapointment, but since Ranger is something you are, rather then something you do (like TKM) mainly, I kept it for a month orso and then went off to try different stuff. I'm gonna get back to it as soon as I get my new system.

Aenedor has always been a Ranger in one guise or another, since I have honestly never had any desire to play any other class /shrug.
He was born 26th August 1999, and has hunted in various realms and times, since then.
3.5 years EQ, 6 months AC, 1 year EnB, Eve since beta.

Ranger just always seemed to suit me. When I started the game I only dabbled in Marksman/Scout and each one feeding the other so to speak. So, once I finished Master Ranger I thought.. hmm.. why not? I went on to Master Ranger and ooh and ahh'd at the implication of "Traps that are the envy of modern military" LOL. If I only knew. hehe.
I am a solo player for themost part so I enjoy just disappearing into the wilderness and hunting who knows what.
If only I could harvest worth a damn....
