Thread: The Only thing you're good for
Hmmm.... I rarely use buffs... and I can heal myself in a camp, except for the BF.
I don't need doctors. I rarely die, and when I do, no doctors are ever out in the woods, they are in cities whining they have no meat. I like my local Chef/BE, she squares me away, I square her away. She knows she has but to ask, she will receive. My local doc takes a second chair to her.
SO, why can'y you get meat?? Cuz I want to see the universe, do all the theme parks I can, get cool loot and badges, wander around, make a pest of myself. Who wants to spend 4 hours killing freaking rasps cuz you want avian...and will pay 10cpu for it. Wow, I can hardly contain myself from running right out now.../sarcasm off.

Two, I read some things about Rangers working together on nightly hunts. That would be really nice. It is a server to server thing. Valcyn's Rangers are scattered. There is no nucleus of them anywhere that I an find.

Have you really been turned down by a lot of rangers when you try to hire them to hunt for you? I have only turned away one potential customer and that was because I wasn't going to be playing for a while.
And when I get back, I will be chasing diversions rather than picking up contracts. You can only kill so many rasps before you go buggy. I'm sure the doctors get buggy after sitting around starports buffing people all day.
What do you pay?
Are you one of those doctors that wants premium meat for 20 CPU?I get offers like that all the time, and I turn them down. Make it 100 CPU and I'll hunt down whatever you like.

First, Flynn, your post was indeed an attack, whether you admit it or not. You veiled it somewhat and tried to justify it by painting a fatalistic picture of our skills, but it was still a negative criticism of people who play rangers, as you focused on why we don't choose to meet your particular needs.
So to answer your shouted question about why you can't get any meat, here are some answers:
1. Rangers tend to be an independent and self-sufficient lot, both by skillset and by player temperament. Thus, we tend not to have huge and recurring expenses in the game.
2. Harvesting resources over and over and over again gets as boring to us as it likely would to any other player. We want to join groups, explore dungeons, do quests to see notable npcs, and so on just as many other players do.
3. Given that our skillset has, as you pointed out, limitations to it just as many others do, PLUS greater prequisites (in skill points) than many other elite professions, there are fewer of us around than there are players who want large quantitites of bone, meat, and hide (every week).

4. We are outnumbered by players who can only offer us credits that we don't really need to have us do an activity even we eventually get tired of, and they want us to do it endlessly. Tell me, how would you respond to a situation like this? Right, you'd harvest when you felt it fun to do so, and probably just for people you already know. Then you'd go have fun in other ways, craving a bit of variety like any other player.
Complain to the devs for not giving us greater harvest rates and not making the Ranger profession one that attracts a lot of people. Don't complain to us for playing the game in ways that match OUR ideas of what's fun, rather than what just makes it fun for you.

Hint: We are not enough to fulfil the demands (and yes, we sometimes do something else than hunting).
I for one have to turn down nearly EVERY request about huntables from 'J Random Doc/Armorsmith/Chef/BE', I have more than enough work with supplying those from my PA.
The fact is, most Rangers harvest resources a good portion of the time. They just can't get enough resources to supply the people they are working for and so they can't really go out of their way to help someone else. As it is, there are a LOT more Master Doctors than Master Rangers (at least on my server but I expect it's true on most servers). I currently mainly supply a single armorsmith (and not a very busy one at that). I don't get enough resources to really keep even him happy. When I see 20 doctors out there asking for the latest avian/herbivore meat, I don't even bother. If I manage to get some on the side, I'll do it. But I'm not usually able to get more than one good resource on a planet. And that means that I'm usually not able to get what anyone else wants. If I could harvest 10 times as much then I'd have a lot less trouble supplying more than one crafter with what they want. Even then there would not be enough Rangers to supply everyone. Most Rangers do what you are saying. But there is no way we can keep up with demand.

I want to echo this point, I have been harvesting Lokian Avian meat which sells very quickly on the bazaar for 20cpu.
I now have 430K credits.
I wear no armour. I use no buffs. My weapons are all bar one, unsliced. I have no house (due to the fact that I placed our 9 lot PA hall and I have a room in thatto store myharvested goods). I spent the last big chunk of money I had on two BE pets which it appears I will not be growing out of for quite a while.
So, do you think I am still selling Avian meat? NO WAY.
InsteadI am having fun. I am on Dathomir getting my ass handed to me and gathering resources for camo kits. It is great to be somewhere new and challenging

You could call me the Devils Ranger Advocate, just trying to get a feel for what you guys are up to.
I was a Master Ranger for6 months so I know what I'm talking about,6 months at least 40 hours a week while I was out of work, so I have the right to speak here. Especially since NOTHING has changed in the last couple of months since I left.
I just don't like seeing the threads "What are we good for Rangers?" or WHY RANGER? I told you why. My title was sarcastic.
I just wanted to get your opinions on some of the POSITIVE things still left in Ranger, some responded positively some got so defensive as if I slapped their mother.
I used to get asked to fill meat orders and that was before I really understood the game. I had no clue as to the importance of certain resources. I wish I had known better.
Which is kinda why I wanted to re highlight how important you guys are.
NO I really don't get turned down for meat requests, but I don't know where to look either for good willing rangers, some of you pointed me in the direction of a new website, thats cool.
And to the guy that said Master Docs make millions a day your on crack, maybe 100k a day avg.
And I would pay 50cpu for >750 OQ and PE Avian meat and Herbivore meat
