Why does Phenix's newlylearned linking power remind me of the 'teach a man to fish' parable?

Because I brought the parable up last week in response to your response to my response? =P

Woot! 30th post! (hey it took me a long time to get to it)
Way back when I was a Ranger (before tracking was in) I always thought we should be able to forage for plants that would cure poison/disease.
Planet specific, ie plants from Naboo wouldnt cure poison/disease caught on Endor.
Not sure about rarity....guess this'd be up to the devs.
Could even scale the ability to forage these along the lines of camo kits. First tier easier planets up to Dath for Master.
It would be useful to the Ranger and a group without a doctor. They'd probably make great items to put up on the bazaar or a vendor.

Master Ranger
I have read and agree with many suggestions here and have seen some really interesting ideas posted. Mine has to do with the Harvesting side of ranger.
I compared my harvesting skills (Master Ranger....for those who lost score) against the skill of a novice Scout with Hunting 4.
Harvesting Meat from Arachne on Endor
On average my partner would harvest only 5-10 units less than me??
This is something that needs to be addressed.
A Novice ranger should harvest at least marginally more than a master scout, not bearly more.
And master Ranger should be the ultimate hunter/harvester ( I Have found droids that have a better harvest rating than me) ??? Someone please explain that one before I loose my job.
My suggestion for the ranger harvesting side of the house
Make the bonuses more notable to be commensurate with the rangers skill and training at the novice level.
At Hunting 3 the Ranger should be able to harvest 2 out of the 3 resources of their choice when an animal is killed. (Again to show their efficiency at harvesting)
At the Master Level the ranger should be able to harvest all three resources (Much as the american indians used every part of the animals they killed)
This would be a good way to make a difference in the classes Scout/Ranger.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am newer to the high lvl ranger things. I was a tracker way back in my day, but I missed it so I have returned to Ranger with intent to master (currently 0.3.4.4). I just hate that this fun profession with such a high skill point cost is not more useful...so I have a few ideas? Perhaps they are old, if so i apologize, like i said I am just brainstorming and am new to this area of the forum as i am just beginning my journey as a ranger.
1) Camps. With the advent of the can call a pet or vehicle anywhere, the use of a camp is nill. With player cities and such abound, that whole line is currently useless IMO. One way to possibly add some use to this would be to make Base Camps more powerful. Perhaps instead of making the crafting stations public...make them private (they are privately owned and crafted with the kit) and make them great quality. This would have crafters loving to find a High Tech camp to craft their schematics and wares. Also, what about making a Ranger mission terminal in these camps. These terminals can have nice reward high lvl missions without having to have a huge group...just open up all the missions available for that area regardless of combat difficulty. What are rangers used to track usually...krayts, kimos, etc. Yeah I know...then loots from these will become common place...i beg to differ. Make the GDK (for example) missions rare or spawns of GDK within these missions rare...and how many master rangers are there really? Also, what about making the Base Camps just that...Bases, where they stay active for a set amount of time so hunting expeditions can BASE out of them? This would allow a hunt party to have a ranger...drop a high lvl camp....craft the meds needed for their trip....get missions for high lvl baddies (regardless of size of the group)...head out to hunt and be able to return to the same base and local to regroup afterwards. Another idea to help camps is make the high lvl camps have built in droids that heal wounds and bf slowly over time...the presence of an entertainer or medic would obviously speed this up. Wow...now all of a sudden the idea of having a high lvl camp sounds kinda nice!!! **May need to move that highest lvl schematic to Master in order to prevent dabbling in just that line.
2) Traps. I do not know how you fix these, but surely there has to be a way to make them more useful than just state changes. Every profession can already do what traps do, and can do it with a lot of damage associated with it. How about getting more creative with traps. Make a one of those iron jaw traps like you see in RL trapping bears and such. Make it where it immobilizes a creature (or person) totally for a given time making them a sitting duck. The could still use range attacks, but it would not be able to rush you. I do not know what else you can do, but surely there are better options out there than just some state changes.
Wayfaring and Tracking are decent I suppose. And i love the idea of /calm as discussed below where a ranger could pacify a given target within reason.
Anyway, what do you guys think? I just feel Ranger is one of the most fun professions, yet I do nto use much of any of the skills because there is not much point. Especially considering the large amount of skill points required to obtain master. Some better defenses or something I think would make this profession go a LONG way.

Ranger traps should be able to do more than merely the existing state effects. As a quick brain storm:
1. Area Snare
2. Area Root
3. Fear (loud flash bang trap that acts like a long duration warning shot)
4. Slow (slow down creatures attack rate due to debilitating drugs)
5. Armour debuffs (temporarily reduces a creatures armour rating by one level)
6. Static KD trap for creatures that can be lured over it (adding a tactical element to the trap)
7. Lure trap to bring out individual creatures from a group
8. Root trap with added action bleed
9. LOW RESIST Trap to lower resistance to other state effects; for use on high level creatures which are currently immune to trapping
10.Poison traps
Many of these have been mentioned previously and I'm sure people can come up with a better list. Remove the need to stand still when throwing a trap, enable them to it high end creatures and we have a working tree.
Most of these (although not saying we should get them all) seem simple no brainers to increase the versitility and hence fun of trapping. It often gets frustrating to see what a half finished state the Ranger profession is in when so many of our trees have simple means of increasing their worth that does not upset other aspects of game balance.

-Rangers need a different Icon for conceal, the current one is just like the mask scent icon
-The conceal ability should have some visual effect on the character. Maybe some general foliage from the planet? It tells you that you are concealed by "complex camoflauge" but you look no different.
-As stated on the forums, the track ability needs to be fixed. The area is not large enough to actually track creatures.
-Explorer mission terminals are seemingly perfect for rangers BUT with the lack of a functional tracking skill and the low pay vs. the amount of time needed to "track" and kill the number of prey, it's really not worth it for rangers to use these mission terminals. Given the amount of work and time needed to complete these missions there should be several rewards in place: Trophies, Rangers should be able to have the option of taking trophies of his or her kills for display, posibly just a head with a backing to mount on a wall. Also, badges similar to the explorer and badge collector badges for the number of explorer missions completed.
-Traps- asside from the fact that I can't throw any of my traps anymore- A ranger needs to have more than just pineapple traps he throws at creatres- how about trip wire or pit traps or net traps similar to the ones used by the ewoks in Ep VI? Traps that you leave in place with bait or even something similar to a duck call for various creatures?
-Although I disagree that the ranger needs to be a combat oriented profession, I think that maybe a ranger needs a weapon certification for some special ranger hunting rifles. something with a longer range, perhaps 100m, maybe a zoom/ scope ability.
-Camps- although the bane of hologrinders getting through scout and ranger professions, I believe that Ranger camps should be sanctuaries in the wilderness. I think that the High tech field base should have an extended perimiter warning alarm for hostile creatures that come within 100m of the camp.
-Missions/ GCW- The Ranger should be used to spear head and clear area's of hostile creatures. Maybe the rebel aliance needs to construct a landing platform on Yavin, deep in the jungle and wants a base camp sent up and the area defended from hostile creatures for a certian amount of time before the shuttle with the construction crew and supplies arive. Even 30 minutes would be a good time. Rangers are the pathfinders of SWG and yet, there is no benifit or in game mechanic to encourage this behavior. Maybe an imperial supply train between two outposts on Dathomir is being harassed by unknown creatres. The ranger could investigate the supply route, talk to the commanders at both outposts and TRACK down the offending creatures. These would be group missions that the ranger could lead and everyone could benifit from. The BH profession has had the treatment and I think it is headed in the right direction. When are rangers going to get attention that they deserve? The "goto the wp and kill the lair" missions don't capitalize on what Rangers in the starwars universe, or any other for that matter, do for a living.

Does anyone else like the Idea of a Ranger mission, where we get missions similar to the BH missions. Where we have to seach the planet for a specific creature to hunt and kill. We could use our area track to hunt them down. I enjoy the current explorer missions using area track, but would not mind doing something a bit more chalenging (Chalenging as in, requires more effort to find and kill, not necessarly tougher to kill)
I would love to get a skill that lets use teach pets how to track down certain creatures. And be able to use pets up to level 12 without taking CH (I REALLY WANT A PET DOG).
Other ranger/CH skills, teach an pet to flush out a creature.. move it away from the lair and others so you can kill it without all its budies joining it.
