Hi.

I am creating a new character sometime later today, and i was thinking of NOT using Comp. Armor.
Basically, im gonna be a bit skinnt on cash from the start, so i recon i will have to run around
without armor and buffs in the beginning. But eventually i will need some armor, and to be honest,
i dont know about all the armor types in this game. Comp. Armor seems to be to widely used.
Player will be human.

Any thoughts on what armor would be nice looking and perhaps even effective at the same time?
I know i could run around without armor, but until i at least get some camo kits, i dont think i will.

Comp armour is by far the most common, or at least appears to be. All those little robocops...

For a Ranger, ubese with a good kinetic resist (75%+) if you're getting up close to the critters and, if you're a ranged Ranger, no armour If it's close enough to start doing damage to a ranged Ranger it's time they were a running ranger!

Doc buffs should be a luxury, only used if you're going out after the biggest beasties. Use food buffs that compliment your combat prof, so if your profs specials hammer your mind, eat/drink mind food. If action, then stuff that affects the action pool.

At the end of the day though, if you're going to go toe to toe with GDK's and Mr Gorax, well, full suit of compo and buff everything you can.

IMHO Rangers shouldn't be up there tanking, they should be using strategy and tactics to work the best prey for the best result. If you're going to suit up, buff up and solo everything on the planet, well, why go Ranger? All you're using is the harvesting mods.

YMMV

Armor, we don't need no stinkin' armor. At least ranged people don't.

The only time I armor is when I am doing FS quests. Unless you enjoy being spam in a can and buffed 24/7, save your cash, don't buy any, and learn how to fight unarmored. It is not hard and becomes second nature after a while.

I solo'd a rancor yesterday morning. Didn't have much of a choice,he was sitting next to me, picking his teeth when I logged in. (Yeah, I know, don't log out on Dath... had to go, real life called). Using terrain, traps, and tactics, I solo'd Mr. Enraged Rancor. Key words, terrain and traps.

And I see guys buffed and armored taking on meatlumps outside Coronet, talk about overkill.

Of course, if you are melee... listen to Ken.

I'm a swordsman and I do wear armor when I fight most of the time. I find that Ubese does quite well for me as the kinetic resist is high. Beware though of anything that spits at you though (like Roha Kwi) because that's not kinetic damage. however, up close, all creatures do Kinetic damage.

Have fun!

I've actually also seen Chitin armor that has quite high kinetic resists and is usually cheaper than Ubese. My Tempest TKA has 54% kinetic resist I believe and cost me 40k for a full set. The Helmut looks kind of funky... but you are definitely unique!

I have a question related to rangers and armor... we'll call this a moderate hijack of this thread!

There are certain pieces of comp and other armor that do not need to be worn during PvE because creature simply never hit there. Does anyone know what these "not necessary" armor pieces are for PvE?

I must admit that I use ubese armour despite being a ranger rifleman (still in training on both). After having a few ancients while hunting herds of red con mobs, I desisted the get some boots, gloves and a jacket.
It is a costume made suite, the armoursmith put a minimum amount of experimentation in to resistance, and more in to low ham cost. The extra 1 or 2 seconds it buys me to get an adhesivemesh to stick can often make the difference.
I also use a PSG, to give me some protection from the NPC that use energy based weapons, and unlike armour, it does not have a ham cost.

Another option you might think of is to get a droid (or a BE made pet) to tank for you. Meat shields are always better then armour.

You need one peace on the following body parts: Legs, both arms, torso, and head. For the legs the boots provide the lowest ham cost, for the arms the gloves cover both arms at the lowest ham cost.

Yes. Chitin can be amazing stuff if you can come up with some great Kliknik Hide Segments. I have a really good Armorsmith friend that makes every type of armor, and she loves the special orders like really high-end Chitin.

I swear by her 70% Krayt Scale Enhanced Ubese armor. The full suit has less encumberance than my first Comp Chestplate I ever bought. But i specifically told her to make it as light as possible.

Wow, I had no idea. So I could just wear a helmet, chest plate, gloves and boots and I would have the exact same protection as I would in a full suit??
Too bad I have all my SEAs on bracers and shoulder pads.

This armor stategy also frees up your pants spot for a nice pair of Bio-Engineered Paramilitary Cammo Pants.

If made right, you can get Paramilitary Cammos with:

Reinforced Fiber Panels - Bleed Resistance, or Mask Scent Bonus, or Melee Defense/Defense vs. Stun, or Warcry/Intimidate Bonus

Synthetic Cloth - Injury/Wound Treatment

Personally, i made myself a nice pair of Paramilitary Cammos with these stats:

+16 Bleeding Resistance and +17 Injury Treatment/+17 Wound Treatment.

Hmmm, that may have to go on the "Cryos Cheese Chart"... the Triple C for those of you who are astute and on the inside.
